John, I am a 67 yo black female. I loved the General Lee. Such a beautiful car! The Duke and Hogg feud was a hoot! Loved the show!! There was nothing racial about it....
I am not white either. I never felt anything racist at all. It is just the, "Look at me! Look at me!" generation. They want to make anything drama as long as it draws attention to them. It is not just non-white youngsters that are doing it today. It is white youngsters of the, "Look at me! Look at me!" generation do it just as bad. The modern idiots just thrive on drama, promoting hate and segregation, controversy, and making a scene. Growing up, I rarely got any racial idiocracy towards me. When I did get an idiot getting racist with me it was someone very similar to the characters of the movie, "Deliverance." Society has taken an enormous step Backwards. Now, the, "Look at me! Look at me!" generation try to force everything to mean something racist. I was at a loss of words that someone was making a scene about, "Cracker Jacks and Black coffee." We are alive in a very regressive time, socially. It would be comical if it were a television programme. But it is, tragically, actually happening. I am certain you have noticed everything I mentioned as well.
Wow I’m so glad to hear you say that Rose because as a white Kidd growing up none of us kids ever connected that show to racism. We just loved the crazy stories they come up with and I think that car is still maybe my favorite car in the whole world. Note it was a show almost all white cast but I won’t call that racist. The reason why is that I used to watch Urkel, fat Albert, Sanford and son , the Jefferson’s and the Cosby show. All those shows were mostly black people but I loved watching them and I thought who cares about the race if the cast is good and you feel better after watching the shows. It is just stupid people trying to get their 15 minutes of fame by making a scene and making things as uncomfortable for others as possible. I am not white at all. I would still love to have a General Lee Charger. I would not mind Daisy as my girlfriend either. It never dawned on me what race people were on television, nor what gender. I just sat back and enjoyed the programming, no matter who looked like what. Nobody really cared who was what race. About the only exception I can think of was that people did not really marry with someone from other races very much. I think that was just more a personal esthetics preference back then. I really do not know. Here is a place humans have made tremendous progress. It is kind of ironic that back then people did not really marry to another race very much but got along just fine. Today, people marry to any race whether it is their race or not. But everything else is supposed to be racist. I really do not understand that at all. But I understand nothing about racism at all. Why should I care who looks like what origin and whom they choose to marry? I hate when someone of my race approached me and started talking about why I should hate all the other races. I did not even know the man. I just said, "I do not care what anybody looks like." I left and on my way out held the door open for the person behind me that was evidently not my race and he started screaming some racist crap and I just kept walking.
Whenever i see the flag i think of the 69 charger. Sometimes i forget it's a symbol of the confederacy. I guess because most of my memory of that flag growing up was just a cool paint job on a baddass car.

I know you probably don't want to hear this, but John is, as well as a great country music singer, an actor. Now, I'm not saying he doesn't have sad feelings about his co-worker, but when in front of a camera it's easy to let your emotions ramp up more than if just talking to someone with no camera. I'm sure he's being genuine, no doubt tho.

I remember meeting John in a restaurant at Walt Disney World way back when. I was just a little kid, walked up to his table and quietly asked for his autograph. He was so nice about being interrupted, spent a few minutes talking to me and thanked ME for taking time to stop by and say hello. I was walking on cloud 9 after that. A memory I won’t forget and this video is how I remember him from all those years ago. In short, a genuine down-to-earth gentleman. If you see this John, I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your friend and I thank you for making a young fan feel special back in the day.
I remember about 1980 or 81. My mom and dad took me and my baby sister to a indoor car show in Knoxville and we stood in line forever and got to meet him and I think Tom was there too. I remember feeling cheated because it was over so quick when we got up there. Was the highlight of my 11 yr old life. My little sister got picked up and kissed and she still talks about it.

If I remember correctly, he was a cousin to a local family & was visiting them. Both of those occurred in the rural community of Brookfield, MO. Finally, just a few years ago, I happened to meet Patrick Lilley at a local eatery in Macon, MO. Best known by stage name Butch Patrick while protraying 'Eddie Munster'. Ken
I met Rodney in the 7th grade at Audubon Junior High School in Los Angeles. We were both in Mr. Drakes home room class. We both attended Dorsey High School and we became life long friends. After high school we both attended Los Angeles City College and took photography classes. We ran the streets of Hollywood together. Rodney became the manager of what would become my second band “Blue”. Just prior to the accident Rodney and his wife came down to Long Beach and had dinner with me and my then wife Amy. The accident happened shortly thereafter. His funeral was the first I had ever attended for one of my close friends. He was my lifelong friend. The time we spent together was priceless. Rest In Peace always brother.

I dented a few hoods back in the day myself! It took me a while to get the hang of running and hopping into the car door window NASCAR style too! I got many bruises from that trick and cussed out from my parents quit a bit for my antics! LOL!
I used to slide across the hood and also get my dad's seats dirty from jumping in through the window. Good ol' days and it felt fun, and you can be sure that i will repeat all of this one day when i pass the driving exams and get my own car. When the Dukes get in your blood once they never go out :)

The Dukes Of Hazzard was one of my favorite shows growing up yet I had never known of this accident at all back then. John your video all these years later and how you expressed your view of the situation is so full of empathy for a person who helped the success of your career at the time and those who knew and loved this man who was just simply a camera man and perhaps a husband, uncle, and even perhaps someone's brother or maybe even a dad and yet you made him sound like your equal and that is such a powerful and classy thing to say and do for your fellow man. Thank you John for being so down to Earth.

I grew up watching that show on Friday nights to it was the only time I was allowed to stay up past 9 I was born in 76 so it was my favorite TV show for a long time. Anyway it's nice to meet somebody to remember that being from Friday night a lot of people don't remember but I can remember the Saturday night lineup. I am 49 years of age. I remember when the pilot came on television for, "The Dukes of Hazzard." I still remember the junk pile the General Lee was built out of. I think it was a getaway vehicle that bank robbers crashed.

Dear Mr. Schneider, thank you for making my childhood so memorable! The Dukes always had a good lesson to teach and I for one believe that it is people such as yourself that inspire and make the leaders of tomorrow. I also have had trauma touch my life and find wisdom in the words "Horrible things aren't just happening to you alone, they just happen". We mustn't carry these feelings with us, they serve no purpose. I would be willing to bet that the man you speak of would be astonished to know that all these years later you are so hurt by the accident that happened that day, primarily because he would wish for you to be happy. Dear Mr. John Schneider, I can see the hurt and pain just talking about this. I am writing to you 4 days before Christmas in 2020. I am sorry for you and the family for Ronnie loss. I know losing a friend or loved one as suddenly as this was very hard and painful for both the crew/friends and family. Time may heal the hard pain of losing a great friend or loved one, but the pain can return as it did you in emotions as you talked about this day. This just shows how much you loved Ronnie and wanted to make sure everyone knew the true story of what happened that horrific tragedy. As a 11 year old kid in 1980. I loved the show so much I called my red Schwinn bike the General Lee. I jumped a creek near my house. Most Adults could simply jump over But I made a ramp and jumped it countless times. He was on a tractor working on a farm and he lost his balance and fell out of it and the bush hog caught him and you can imagine the rest. His mom and dad found him I was the 3rd person to actually see him and I live that day over and over in my mind. The flashbacks are hard on me . I miss him a lot. So I understand what and how John feels. Accidents happen and we never know when.
When I first came to America back in July of 1979, I saw this show for the first time and fell in love with it. It helped me learn English. It’s sad to hear that such a tragedy occurred on this show. As someone who has worked in EMS for 26 years these things just happen sometimes. But it's never easy to have someone so unexpectedly taken from you. Thank you for sharing that personal moment with us. On another note I thought about stopping by your studios many times to leave a note telling you how much I like your Ruffled Skirts album. I live Livingston, La and nearly everyone I know was both affected and effected by that flood. I've told many people who lost so much to listen to your album. It helped. Thank you for that. I've been a commercial driver for almost 20 years and I'll agree with John even a small edge, If you get a steer tire off the edge of the pavement or in a rut at speed it's no joke a lot of trucks have rolled over that way.Thanks for sharing John. Rip Rodney Mitchell.

Many trucks in devastating crashes were either traveling at that speed or less, or had decelerated to that speed before impact. Absolutely loved the Dukes of Hazzard growing up. Heck I still love it and I am 47. I have never heard about this horrible accident until I saw this video. Sorry for they lost of a friend even if it was many many many years ago. You're a good compassionate man! Thank you for being a role model and a stand-up actor.
I would LOVE to hear some Waylon stories. I've always loved Waylon. Now, I'm too young to remember this, only being born in 1981.... but I was maybe 2 or 3 - I have a brother 3 years older, so we were HEAVY into Dukes as tykes. Lunchboxes, bedsheet, Pj's, you name it. Anyway, the story my mom tells us is that there was to be one of those Dukes of Hazzard cast meets where they all sign autographs, etc. For whatever reason, it was one of the RARE occasions where Waylon went, too. (This has to be 1983 or 1984) we're not exactly sure. BUT, my brother got to meet Tom Wopat and John Schnieder, and my dad took me over to meet Waylon. Apparently, Mr. Jennings was so taken aback at how well-spoken 3-year old me was.... he picked me up and trucked me around to show me off to everybody else. My old man thought it was the greatest thing ever. My mom on the other hand was freaking out because my dad had essentially handed a 3-year-old child to a complete stranger! LOL But after mom had settled down, we took some pictures. We have a single faded Polaroid of me in Mr. Jennings' Arms and he'd put his cowboy hat on my head and it's drooping down well over my face. But from that point on, I've always had an affinity for Mr. Jennings. Wished I could've met him later in life and shared stories over a couple beers. I was pretty heartbroken when he passed.

The cast used to travel around in their off season to promote the show in various cities and give little meet-and-greets at shopping malls and sign autographs and stuff. I know this may seem weird and unusual in today's society but that's what TV stars did back in the 1980's.
As a kid this show meant so much. I think part of the appeal was just as the lyrics from Waylon's theme- "just good ol' boys, never meaning no harm". I think that extended to this tragedy. It could just as easily happen to someone on the way to work. When I was a kid we used to pile in the back of the pickup for trips to town. Merry Christmas!

I have done 2 movies amd it is that way when u film with people so long n got ao intimit with them i. Some way . You pretty much become a family. Thats wby so many people end up being in shows anf films so much together . People work good togetther they stick together
The fact that 44 years later this man tears up about an accident that happened and had nothing to do with him is such a statement about him and his character I cannot put into words how much respect I have for him. I don’t know if you will ever read this John but you have always been one of my favorite actors I was fifteen years old in 1980 so yeah, the Dukes of Hazard was a staple in my childhood home on Friday nights. While my sisters crooned over you and Tom I just wanted to be there and be one of the “good old boys”. My life has taken me through millions of moments since then and I long for my innocence of that time. But when I see you tear up at the loss of a coworker, and I have lost a few myself, I know how genuine you are and I am so glad that my adulation was not misplaced in my youth. You sir are more of a hero to me today than you ever were 45 years ago!
40 years later and I can see you still get emotional about losing your friend......you are a true friend, an American Patriot and hero John. I watched every episode as a preteen and into my teenage years...thank you for being a big part of my favorite tv show!

First John, I would like to offer my profound condolences on the loss of your fellow Dukes friend and cameraman. I never heard about this ever until just this moment. Sadly, when such things occur, there are people out there that have no clue what they're talking about and they spread idle gossip. This can hurt people. Its painfully obvious that y'all were very close on the set. A true family. Friends all. So, when you lose one of your family members, it cuts right to the heart. Even......... After all these years. I cannot speak for anyone else, but I would like to thank you as personally as I can for taking your time to explain this tragic event. I know safety is a major concern on sets. I don't work in the industry, but it's common sense. Peoples lives must be strictly looked after. Sure, the cameraman/ women wants that very special, unique, even dangerous looking shot, but they're not fools. Such artistry requires allot. Especially situational awareness. Knowing exactly where your at and exactly what your doing. Sounds exactly as you described it John. "A Perfect Storm". Rain, ruts, debris in road, top heavy truck. Your explanation, though you were not present, not only sounds reasonable, but highly likely, based upon the facts you stated. Again, please accept my sincere condolences belated. I've never responded to any of your videos here, but I also want to say John, thank y'all for one really amazing tv show. When I was 12 me and two other kids were playing Dukes of Hazard in my folks parked car when one of them climbed out through the car window shouting 'Hiya Beau! See ya, Luke!' before running off. My other buddy turned to me and said "If I'm Beau and you are Luke, he must be Daisy...' So we started calling the other kid Daisy, cuz that's how kids roll.
I grew up watching the Dukes of Hazzard! This was the greatest show of all time! Thank you, sir, for your channel and all the work that you've done over the years! You are a true legend!
John Schneider doesn't know just how many children he has influenced. Hence the reason God personally picked him to be 'Bo Duke' to begin with. I'm 41 years old and one of my earliest memories was playing with a relatively large "General Lee" (mutt orange '69 Dodge Charger) In the back of what I would now refer to as an "A-Team Van." It was a van with shag carpet, and playing with the General Lee in it, is one of my earliest memories that is still vivid today. I was born in LA County, 1978. Around the age of 5, I saw a life size General Lee at what appeared to be a Court house (old fancy building) and my mind was blown! Having seen the car for the 1st time in reality was so amazing! Thank you for being so humble, and honest. If you are anything like me, you deny your greatness every time someone tells you just how wonderful you are. Happens to me more often than I care to count, and as much as I want to attribute this to Jesus who said, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone!" Before I knew who Jesus was, I knew of John Schneider. Before I knew my own father, I knew John Schneider. I've never asked myself, "What would John Schneider do?" But John Schneider is more or less a barometer for the state of the union. If John Schneider jumps, I jump. If John Schneider makes TH-cam videos, I too will make TH-cam videos. I have served in Iraq as an active duty member of the Air Force and yet it is I that thanks John Schneider for His service. Please stay humble... you are who God thought you were when He hand selected you to become who you are. Edit: 11:05 You can tell a lot about someone from the smart phone wallpaper. My boss of 10 years is 60, is single with no kids, and his wallpaper for the past 3-4 years, is the female from the "Cool World" cartoon movie. I don't look up to him, I look up to John Schneider.

I’m 49 and watched this show on Friday nights since day one. One of the biggest influences in my life. Used to jump and drift my nova ( my poor car). Best show EVER!
You were my very first live music concert. I was in the boy scouts and you played our Jamboree in Jefferson Barracks Park in St. Louis, Missouri. I remember one song that went I'd rather be number 34 in Atlanta than to be number 1 in LA. That stuck with me. Also when you played the Dukes theme song. I will never forget that day. Also I have met Tom and Catherine before. I also sat in one of the General Lee's. I always loved the Dukes show. Thanks for the memories!!!

God forgive us, sometimes the loss is so unbelievable we rush to find malice thats not there. The Dukes of Hazzard is a legend, that took a team of heroes to make happen. Thank you for giving me the details. As a tradesman(electrician) up here in Canada, all of the electrical code is added or updated because some one got hurt or killed. It's sad part, some times things just happen to good people but we learn a different way to avoid having that happen again. In this case, things changed,I heard on sites when things happen "We did this thousands of times and didn't think nothing of it". We don't see clearly because we didn't, at the time, see any danger or recognized it. As for your show, I was born Jan 26, 1973...on Jan 26, 1979, I had the dream gift, The Dukes of Hazzard premiere on TV. Instantly became my favourite show. It influenced me to see positive even when things are really bad and to be my best and strive for excellence. Gave me a life time of memories as a kid and still watch the show today. John, I appreciate the way you break it down. I am a safety director for construction and the greatest tool we have for keeping people safe is the "incident review". After an event, we simply ask, what could we do better. If we had perfect hind-sight, we would never need an incident review.

What a sobering and immensely tragic event : (((. With all the stunts involved in the show...and something seemingly benign or not thought twice about caused the accident! I could see how difficult it was for you, John to explain it all but you did a great job of it. I appreciate your efforts. The fact that you speak on this 41 years after the fact and show the level emotion still surrounding it speaks volumes on how much you truly care about everyone. I grew up watching you guys on tv and was inspired by so much, (especially the dynamite arrows lol) and my Dad worked at Chrysler for 35 years so I was a dodge kid too. Thank you for everything you all did. Some years ago I had a 95 Tahoe that weighed 4800 lbs, it was a beast, and trying to avoid a deer at 70 mph (the speed limit) I went into a slide and the front tire caught the pavement coming off of dirt and flipped that huge, heavy truck twice in the air. I'm lucky to be alive, but I know what you're talking about. Sometimes everything comes together just right and it's unavoidable. On side note I've also had the same driver training as the secret service and live in Northern Michigan where the roads are frequently horrendous

The truck driver said that the truck was not safe. The victim’s family did *not* think it was an unavoidable accident, and sued everyone involved for $3,500,000. According to a friend, Rodney had been very concerned about his safety on the DOH set.

Sadly he passed away March 14,2017 unexpectedly of a heart attack while not long arriving at work around 7:45 a.m.. worst day of my life. Miss and love you Dad!

I am not white either. I never felt anything racist at all. It is just the, "Look at me! Look at me!" generation. They want to make anything drama as long as it draws attention to them. Look at me!" generation try to force everything to mean something racist. I was at a loss of words that someone was making a scene about, "Cracker Jacks and Black coffee." We just loved the crazy stories they come up with and I think that car is still maybe my favorite car in the whole world. Note it was a show almost all white cast but I won’t call that racist. All those shows were mostly black people but I loved watching them and I thought who cares about the race if the cast is good and you feel better after watching the shows. I know you probably don't want to hear this, but John is, as well as a great country music singer, an actor. Now, I'm not saying he doesn't have sad feelings about his co-worker, but when in front of a camera it's easy to let your emotions ramp up more than if just talking to someone with no camera. I remember meeting John in a restaurant at Walt Disney World way back when. I was just a little kid, walked up to his table and quietly asked for his autograph. He was so nice about being interrupted, spent a few minutes talking to me and thanked ME for taking time to stop by and say hello. I was walking on cloud 9 after that. A memory I won’t forget and this video is how I remember him from all those years ago. In short, a genuine down-to-earth gentleman. If you see this John, I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your friend and I thank you for making a young fan feel special back in the day.

I remember about 1980 or 81. My mom and dad took me and my baby sister to a indoor car show in Knoxville and we stood in line forever and got to meet him and I think Tom was there too. I remember feeling cheated because it was over so quick when we got up there. Was the highlight of my 11 yr old life. My little sister got picked up and kissed and she still talks about it.

First was Kirby Grant when (years after Sky King was cancelled) he was traveling with a small circus as a 'trick shot' artist. I was in 5th grade then. Then I had a happen stance meeting with James Doohan at a local school PTA 'carnival' when I was in 6th grade. (I believe during the third season of Star Trek). If I remember correctly, he was a cousin to a local family & was visiting them. Both of those occurred in the rural community of Brookfield, MO. Finally, just a few years ago, I happened to meet Patrick Lilley at a local eatery in Macon, MO. Best known by stage name Butch Patrick while protraying 'Eddie Munster'.

I enjoyed the 1981 movie " Dream House ". If you haven't seen it...
I met Rodney in the 7th grade at Audubon Junior High School in Los Angeles. We were both in Mr. Drakes home room class. We both attended Dorsey High School and we became life long friends. After high school we both attended Los Angeles City College and took photography classes. We ran the streets of Hollywood together. Rodney became the manager of what would become my second band “Blue”. Just prior to the accident Rodney and his wife came down to Long Beach and had dinner with me and my then wife Amy. The accident happened shortly thereafter. His funeral was the first I had ever attended for one of my close friends. He was my lifelong friend. The time we spent together was priceless. Rest In Peace always brother.

I dented a few hoods back in the day myself! It took me a while to get the hang of running and hopping into the car door window NASCAR style too! I got many bruises from that trick and cussed out from my parents quit a bit for my antics! LOL!
I used to slide across the hood and also get my dad's seats dirty from jumping in through the window. Good ol' days and it felt fun, and you can be sure that i will repeat all of this one day when i pass the driving exams and get my own car. When the Dukes get in your blood once they never go out :)

The Dukes Of Hazzard was one of my favorite shows growing up yet I had never known of this accident at all back then. John your video all these years later and how you expressed your view of the situation is so full of empathy for a person who helped the success of your career at the time and those who knew and loved this man who was just simply a camera man and perhaps a husband, uncle, and even perhaps someone's brother or maybe even a dad and yet you made him sound like your equal and that is such a powerful and classy thing to say and do for your fellow man. Thank you John for being so down to Earth.

I grew up watching that show on Friday nights to it was the only time I was allowed to stay up past 9 I was born in 76 so it was my favorite TV show for a long time. Anyway it's nice to meet somebody to remember that being from Friday night a lot of people don't remember but I can remember the Saturday night lineup. Or excuse me the Friday night lineup it was Dukes of Hazzard happy days and then Sha Na Na at 11. Anyway take care of brother hope you're safe

I am 49 years of age. I remember when the pilot came on television for, "The Dukes of Hazzard." I still remember the junk pile the General Lee was built out of. I think it was a getaway vehicle that bank robbers crashed.

Dear Mr. Schneider, thank you for making my childhood so memorable! The Dukes always had a good lesson to teach and I for one believe that it is people such as yourself that inspire and make the leaders of tomorrow. I also have had trauma touch my life and find wisdom in the words "Horrible things aren't just happening to you alone, they just happen". We mustn't carry these feelings with us, they serve no purpose. I would be willing to bet that the man you speak of would be astonished to know that all these years later you are so hurt by the accident that happened that day, primarily because he would wish for you to be happy. I can see the hurt and pain just talking about this. I am writing to you 4 days before Christmas in 2020. I am sorry for you and the family for Ronnie loss. I know losing a friend or loved one as suddenly as this was very hard and painful for both the crew/friends and family. Time may heal the hard pain of losing a great friend or loved one, but the pain can return as it did you in emotions as you talked about this day. This just shows how much you loved Ronnie and wanted to make sure everyone knew the true story of what happened that horrific tragedy.
As a 11 year old kid in 1980. I loved the show so much I called my red Schwinn bike the General Lee. I jumped a creek near my house. Most Adults could simply jump over But I made a ramp and jumped it countless times. Now, as an adult, I love to hear your stories about how, where, and when things were filmed. Thank you for setting the story straight even though I never hear about this tragic accident. May God bless you and all those that worked and made The Dukes of Hazzard such a great and timeless TV Show.

He was on a tractor working on a farm and he lost his balance and fell out of it and the bush hog caught him and you can imagine the rest. His mom and dad found him I was the 3rd person to actually see him and I live that day over and over in my mind. The flashbacks are hard on me . I miss him a lot. So I understand what and how John feels. Accidents happen and we never know when.

Well, the only way to resolve the contrary beliefs is to read the Bible and learn what it actually says.
The whole purpose of Christ's crucifixion is so that God can put His spirit within us and teach us to walk in His statutes and to keep His judgments and do them.

I've been a commercial driver for almost 20 years and I'll agree with John even a small edge, If you get a steer tire off the edge of the pavement or in a rut at speed it's no joke a lot of trucks have rolled over that way.Thanks for sharing John. Rip Rodney Mitchell.

That would be nice... I was lucky enough to see him live in the early 90s with The Highwaymen in Detroit
I would LOVE to hear some Waylon stories. I've always loved Waylon. Now, I'm too young to remember this, only being born in 1981.... but I was maybe 2 or 3 - I have a brother 3 years older, so we were HEAVY into Dukes as tykes. Lunchboxes, bedsheet, Pj's, you name it. Anyway, the story my mom tells us is that there was to be one of those Dukes of Hazzard cast meets where they all sign autographs, etc. For whatever reason, it was one of the RARE occasions where Waylon went, too. (This has to be 1983 or 1984) we're not exactly sure. BUT, my brother got to meet Tom Wopat and John Schnieder, and my dad took me over to meet Waylon. Apparently, Mr. Jennings was so taken aback at how well-spoken 3-year old me was.... he picked me up and trucked me around to show me off to everybody else. My old man thought it was the greatest thing ever. My mom on the other hand was freaking out because my dad had essentially handed a 3-year-old child to a complete stranger! LOL
But after mom had settled down, we took some pictures. We have a single faded Polaroid of me in Mr. Jennings' Arms and he'd put his cowboy hat on my head and it's drooping down well over my face. But from that point on, I've always had an affinity for Mr. Jennings. Wished I could've met him later in life and shared stories over a couple beers. I was pretty heartbroken when he passed.

As a kid this show meant so much. I think part of the appeal was just as the lyrics from Waylon's theme- "just good ol' boys, never meaning no harm". I think that extended to this tragedy. It could just as easily happen to someone on the way to work. When I was a kid we used to pile in the back of the pickup for trips to town. Merry Christmas!

The fact that 44 years later this man tears up about an accident that happened and had nothing to do with him is such a statement about him and his character I cannot put into words how much respect I have for him.
I don’t know if you will ever read this John but you have always been one of my favorite actors I was fifteen years old in 1980 so yeah, the Dukes of Hazard was a staple in my childhood home on Friday nights. While my sisters crooned over you and Tom I just wanted to be there and be one of the “good old boys”. My life has taken me through millions of moments since then and I long for my innocence of that time. But when I see you tear up at the loss of a coworker, and I have lost a few myself, I know how genuine you are and I am so glad that my adulation was not misplaced in my youth. You sir are more of a hero to me today than you ever were 45 years ago!

First John, I would like to offer my profound condolences on the loss of your fellow Dukes friend and cameraman. I never heard about this ever until just this moment. Sadly, when such things occur, there are people out there that have no clue what they're talking about and they spread idle gossip. This can hurt people. Its painfully obvious that y'all were very close on the set. A true family. Friends all. So, when you lose one of your family members, it cuts right to the heart. Even.........
After all these years. I cannot speak for anyone else, but I would like to thank you as personally as I can for taking your time to explain this tragic event. I know safety is a major concern on sets. I don't work in the industry, but it's common sense. Peoples lives must be strictly looked after. Sure, the cameraman/ women wants that very special, unique, even dangerous looking shot, but they're not fools. Such artistry requires allot. Especially situational awareness. Knowing exactly where your at and exactly what your doing. Sounds exactly as you described it John. "A Perfect Storm". Rain, ruts, debris in road, top heavy truck. Your explanation, though you were not present, not only sounds reasonable, but highly likely, based upon the facts you stated.
Again, please accept my sincere condolences belated.

When I was 12 me and two other kids were playing Dukes of Hazard in my folks parked car when one of them climbed out through the car window shouting 'Hiya Beau! See ya, Luke!' before running off. My other buddy turned to me and said "If I'm Beau and you are Luke, he must be Daisy...' So we started calling the other kid Daisy, cuz that's how kids roll.
I grew up watching the Dukes of Hazzard! This was the greatest show of all time! Thank you, sir, for your channel and all the work that you've done over the years! You are a true legend!
John Schneider doesn't know just how many children he has influenced. Hence the reason God personally picked him to be 'Bo Duke' to begin with.
I'm 41 years old and one of my earliest memories was playing with a relatively large "General Lee" (mutt orange '69 Dodge Charger) In the back of what I would now refer to as an "A-Team Van." It was a van with shag carpet, and playing with the General Lee in it, is one of my earliest memories that is still vivid today.
I was born in LA County, 1978. Around the age of 5, I saw a life size General Lee at what appeared to be a Court house (old fancy building) and my mind was blown! Having seen the car for the 1st time in reality was so amazing!

Happens to me more often than I care to count, and as much as I want to attribute this to Jesus who said, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone!"
Before I knew who Jesus was, I knew of John Schneider. Before I knew my own father, I knew John Schneider.
I've never asked myself, "What would John Schneider do?" But John Schneider is more or less a barometer for the state of the union. If John Schneider jumps, I jump. If John Schneider makes TH-cam videos, I too will make TH-cam videos.
I have served in Iraq as an active duty member of the Air Force and yet it is I that thanks John Schneider for His service. Please stay humble... you are who God thought you were when He hand selected you to become who you are.
Edit: 11:05 You can tell a lot about someone from the smart phone wallpaper. My boss of 10 years is 60, is single with no kids, and his wallpaper for the past 3-4 years, is the female from the "Cool World" cartoon movie. I don't look up to him, I look up to John Schneider.

I’m 49 and watched this show on Friday nights since day one. One of the biggest influences in my life. Used to jump and drift my nova ( my poor car). Best show EVER!
You were my very first live music concert. I was in the boy scouts and you played our Jamboree in Jefferson Barracks Park in St. Louis, Missouri. I remember one song that went I'd rather be number 34 in Atlanta than to be number 1 in LA. That stuck with me. Also when you played the Dukes theme song. I will never forget that day.
Also I have met Tom and Catherine before. I also sat in one of the General Lee's. I always loved the Dukes show. Thanks for the memories!!!
John, It's refreshing to see a celebrity express their feelings from the heart the way you did in this video. You obviously cared and do to this day about the loss of life in that tragic accident. God forgive us, sometimes the loss is so unbelievable we rush to find malice thats not there. The Dukes of Hazzard is a legend, that took a team of heroes to make happen. When a hero falls doing what heroes do, the rest of us have a hard time accepting, thats what it takes to build legends. Thank you Rodney Mitchell for making my childhood better.
Thank you for giving me the details. As a tradesman(electrician) up here in Canada, all of the electrical code is added or updated because some one got hurt or killed. It's sad part, some times things just happen to good people but we learn a different way to avoid having that happen again. In this case, things changed,I heard on sites when things happen "We did this thousands of times and didn't think nothing of it". We don't see clearly because we didn't, at the time, see any danger or recognized it.
As for your show, I was born Jan 26, 1973...on Jan 26, 1979, I had the dream gift, The Dukes of Hazzard premiere on TV. Instantly became my favourite show. It influenced me to see positive even when things are really bad and to be my best and strive for excellence. Gave me a life time of memories as a kid and still watch the show today.

John, I appreciate the way you break it down. I am a safety director for construction and the greatest tool we have for keeping people safe is the "incident review". After an event, we simply ask, what could we do better. If we had perfect hind-sight, we would never need an incident review.

What a sobering and immensely tragic event : (((. With all the stunts involved in the show...and something seemingly benign or not thought twice about caused the accident! I could see how difficult it was for you, John to explain it all but you did a great job of it. I appreciate your efforts. I have to admit I was curious about the accident too and I thought it was a stunt gone wrong. Hi John, from England. Thank you for that heartfelt explanation. You’re a good man. Hopefully puts a lot of the malicious speculation to rest. I was 11 years old in 1980, loved the show & still do. You & the Dukes crew will always have a special place in my heart. Childhood is a magical time. Thank you & all involved for such an iconic series that endures to this day. Wonderful ! The fact that you speak on this 41 years after the fact and show the level emotion still surrounding it speaks volumes on how much you truly care about everyone. I grew up watching you guys on tv and was inspired by so much, (especially the dynamite arrows lol) and my Dad worked at Chrysler for 35 years so I was a dodge kid too. Thank you for everything you all did.
Some years ago I had a 95 Tahoe that weighed 4800 lbs, it was a beast, and trying to avoid a deer at 70 mph (the speed limit) I went into a slide and the front tire caught the pavement coming off of dirt and flipped that huge, heavy truck twice in the air. I'm lucky to be alive, but I know what you're talking about. Sometimes everything comes together just right and it's unavoidable. On side note I've also had the same driver training as the secret service and live in Northern Michigan where the roads are frequently horrendous

The truck driver said that the truck was not safe. The victim’s family did *not* think it was an unavoidable accident, and sued everyone involved for $3,500,000. According to a friend, Rodney had been very concerned about his safety on the DOH set.

Rest in peace Rodney... My dad was born in 69 and The Dukes was his favorite show, I remember him still smiling everytime he talked about Hazzard county. Sadly he passed away March 14,2017 unexpectedly of a heart attack while not long arriving at work around 7:45 a.m.. worst day of my life. Miss and love you Dad!
