Hey Brian! If you're an American just show up with your passport (not expired) and you're good to go. They will give you 90 days. It you're there close to 90 days and want to stay longer you can extend your stay for 90 more days with some paperwork, the process is in my visa video. And as for apartments, I recommend going the Airbnb route. If you plan on staying for years then there are other options but come with a lot of paperwork and fine print etc

My previous online research and my Brazilian friends assure me that I can live comfortably on $1,000 a month. You have a great apartment and good amenities but it sounds expensive. That’s what I pay currently for a 3 bedroom house here in Kansas City Missouri USA. I suppose it’s because you are in Rio on the beach. But I’m moving to Brazil this year as a newly retired government employee. I’m hoping on Santa Catarina beaches to keep it under $1,200 a month in total. My Brazilian boyfriend tells me I can! You could just stay at a hostel for like 5-11$ per day if that. American hostels run 18-38 per night for dorms, figure like 5-10$ everywhere else in the world and maybe lower.

I'm still in Rio yes! Leblon has good nightlife yes but it can be kind of chic/posh, there are definitely more relaxed places for nightlife, but just depends on what someone wants. @Allen #7

Airbnb and then switch to cash payments. In 2022 now it is much harder because a lot more demand and low supply of good apartments
