That 1 minute 17 lap time is hella fast for a course over 13 kilometres long. That's an average speed of 635kph, or nearly 400mph around the lap. Impressive lmao. The circuit is obviously massively compressed but it does give an immense sense of speed which I guess is more important in a video game of this era.
I loved this game. The backfire, AI cars on fire, fireworks in night races, contracts on the laptops. It inspired me to race when I was a teenager and now I do 😊
This was a great game. It wasn't so "realistic" but it was massive fun and had everything that genuine motorsport fans need in a motorsport game. The ps2 version was also great ( I think it was the first game I had on PS2, along with F1 2001)
This game was a jam for me, I would enjoy racing for 2 hours in the Le Mans mode, but the buggy AIs can tamper my experience. Imagine the AI cars randomly standing still while you're zipping past the night, plus the scale of the track doesn't help as well. Definitely a game I'd revisit whenever I have a chance, playing the 2 hour race again and survive my way through. The game really showed how a day/night cycle works on PSX, and introduced me to some great cars, like the Cirtek Ford, the Ferrari 333SP, and the purple Panoz Esperante, plus the engine sound in this game lives in my head rent free. There is also a PC version of this game (not the other TDLM, mind you) but unfortunately it crashes when I try to race Le Mans mode there, it also has the correct La Sarthe circuit if I could assume. The fact that there isn't enough footage of this also doesn't help... 😢
Oh man I used to play the crap out of this game on my PS1 alongside Gran Turismo. The intro is just iconic with the Dandy Warhols song. I just noticed that every car in the game has the same engine sound lol
I never noticed that it's called Test drive. Yet I played tons of it on my PS1 All I knew was its 24hours Le man ( even in that time I only think'd that it's only name of game... not entire dedicated racing category)
also the scale is way off too, pretty sure even the Red Bull X2014 couldn't do a 1:20 at Le Mans with the chicanes, but the on the other hand Tomahawk X maybe.
