    These might be my favorite corydoras. They are so fun to watch. They really do stick together and I love watching them swim together all over tank. The way they move its as if it is one brain controlling everyones actions. I'm loving these species spotlights. You have some really interesting and not as commonly kept fish.

    I keep 12 species of nano fish and truly pigmy corys are my favorite, even my girlfriend who thought they were a bit ugly fell in love so bad with them she wants to have one aquarium only with them! they may look a bit dull compared to others but their behavior is something to be witnessed, and the more you look at them the cutter they look, they lay down on your plants, rocks, swim with other species, shool then go on their own, really, you can take every single word from Rachel on this one, well, for what I have seen on her channel, you can take her word in all cases ;)

    I just got 6 of them today - and they're TINY!!! Absolutely charming critters, though...
    My only regret about them? Not getting more of them! My tank isn't huge, but I could have gotten a dozen and it would have been fine. (105 litres / 28 gallons, so it's not a nano tank - but I like the look of tiny nano fish in schools and none of my fish are more than an inch at present.)

    I had pygmy cories for several years and while they were adorable, they were EXTREMELY shy. They were in a 10 gal planted tank with fish no bigger than guppies and a few amano shrimp. I always had groups of at least 10 of them, and the tank chemistry was perfect. They lived a long time, but they were always hiding. I could only get a glance at them if I hid, basically. They never came up into the mid water, really, but did snuffle around the bottom. I'm considering getting some more because they're just so cute, but I'm wondering if you have any advice for combatting that shyness.

    I love these little guys. They are too adorable. I started out with 8 and now I'm down to 4. 4 of them where very chewed up when I go them home. I tried to treat them and 4 didnt make it they where pretty sick. I do drip acclimation on all my fish I know it's Overkill. Less stress. The lights in the room are off and to the tank as well. I have noticed its less stressful for the fish and it has cut down the rate of ich out breaks. Yes every new fish goes in my QT tank. Again thank you for all you share.

    I received a school of 13 for my 29 gallon planted tank yesterday. I just set up this tank about a month ago, and these are the first fish to go in it. They are adorable. Within a few hours there were several groups of them playing. So fun to watch. When I was unboxing them, there was one that looked very pale. Last night I spotted it in the tank laying up against a plant and I was sure it hadn't made it. I got a net to pull it out, and it scooted away weakly. So I decided to leave it and check on it today. This morning it is not looking great, but trying to swim with the others - so I shall just keep an eye on it. The thing is, it is not just pale. It is a white fish? Definitely a pygmy cory - but white. Have you gotten white ones in with your shipments before?

    Bit of a late comment, but I've been breeding these guys for a few years now. I've never witnessed the adults consuming the eggs. Wondering if you've seen it yourself or just take precautionary measures when breeding due to other species of corys consuming their spawn?

  • @isk8nyc
    @isk8nyc 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for this video I was just at my LPS and I spotted them. I asked the salesmen what they were when I saw them. I once picked up what I thought was emerald eye rasporas, got them home acclimatized them and after an hour in the tank I realized they were not rasporas but neon tetras that were kept so badly their color had faded! So now I always make a habbit of asking the sales person what they are instead of assuming for myself off or the tags from the tank.
    They's only been in there an hour or so but I'm so glad to have them!

    I'd love to see a video on corydoras haststus--I'm absolutely obsessed but they are proving nearly impossible to find :(. Could I keep any of these species with my little female betta? I haven't had her long enough to know how aggressive she is but I just kinda fell in love with her at my LFS. She REALLY wanted out of her cup lol. I also purchased this sad little oto I found all alone because I knew from your previous video how crucial it is they be kept in large groups and as soon as I see some healthy ones Im going to get at least 9 more. I only have a 10 gallon right now but that might change in the future. Can these fish get along in your expirience? anything else you suggest I look into? thanks so much--you are my absolute favorite you tuber!

    i didn't do my research so I originally bought 3 but one died a month later looked like a fat lump in his stomach so dont think it was anything disease related, but the other two remaining have started schooling with the 4 african dwarf frogs. Its the weirdest and cutest thing ever. The betta would always chase after the cory then one day one of the frogs stepped in and smacked a betta upside his face and the two species have been cool ever since. sometimes they'll follow the frog around the tank eat algea of its back and sometimes the frogs will will play hop scotch on em. But anytime the betta comes around the frogs will surround the cories and start smacking a betta.

    Is it dirt or some kind of skin disease on some of that little guys? How many of them would you stock in a 60 gallon biotop style species tank? I would like to set up a new tank with sand, rock, driftwood and only some plants for a cory/aspidoras species that uses more than just the bottom of the tank - and the pygmy is the only one available here (I love my Aspidoras pauciradiatus - but only got 9 of them and don´t get more of them for my project..). Can you take I vid of your huge corys swarms someday?

    • @RachelOLeary
      @RachelOLeary  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's air bubbles from filling the container to film. As for stocking density it would depend on what else is in there though I would not do less than 20 for good behavior

    Hi, it's me again. I have 2 of these in my 9 gallon. My problem is that I have a betta that always eats their food. I don't know what to do. I have fed them fresh blanched veggies like zucchini and that's the only way they get to eat! The betta will try to tear off pieces of that too but I put enough pieces in that's not a problem. But they can't just keep eating veggies can they?

    • @katebattista7400
      @katebattista7400 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why not get one of those net breeders that folks hang on the inside of the tank for gravid females? It can be a little time out corner for your betta while the cories eat.

    I recently bought flourite black to experiment and then founding out that they're fairly sharp. I am thinking of having half the tank with flourite and the other half with sand. Will the cories b hurting themselves by constantly going to the flourite or will they stick to the sand portion of the tank? Please advise.

    • @RachelOLeary
      @RachelOLeary  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on which species of cory but providing that sand area is a great idea. You may find over time that the substrates mix despite your best intentions unless you use a substrate support to seperate them.

    I'm a huge cory fan. You can see all 7 species in my 55g, but I'm breeding pygmy corys in my 25g fluval flex. Check it out and give me some tips to induce breeding. I've already done some things, but I'm no expert and always appreciate feedback/tips....great video and pygmy corys rule. I've got 5 right now because one was DOA. In a matter of days I'll have 19 in there. Itsxa mature tank with tons of biomedia and I even added a sponge filter for extra biological filtration

    Rachel O'Leary, I was planning on getting some cories to put in my 5 gal, with my Betta, and some in my 20 gal, but with the numbers you're throwing out that's definitely NOT going to happen. When I was younger and didn't have all these health problems, I had a 30 gal,29 gal, several 20 gal, several 10 gal, a 5 gal ( hospital tank ) and a 1 gal ( nursery ) and a 55 gal. Now I only had gravel in my tanks, all of my tanks had goldfish, except the 55 it was a community tank. In my 29 gal my Cories spawned and the eggs were on a rock so just put the rock in the nursery and they hatched. Back in the 80's we never heard about cycling the tank and all the new rules out now, I never had any problems...............

    What are the 3 other pygmy species?

    • @RachelOLeary
      @RachelOLeary  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Corydoras habrosus, Corydoras hastatus, and I consider Aspidoras pauciradiatus to be one.
