Thank you SOOOOO MUCH!! This video changed what I chose for a new tank. It took years to save my weeding money for GOOD substrate, GOOD light, etc. I traded veggies for mystery crypts from friends. 4 months ago I set up a 20 tall with otocinclus & cherry barbs. Today I find my cherry barbs have spawned! I have fry and I've never had any kind of fry before! I'm so stinkin' excited!!

I've had a steady population of these fish in my 55 gallon for more than a decade by just keeping the tank heavily planted. Now and then, a couple of fry make it on their own, and so the population overall continues with no special breeding effort on my part. They are great fish. You might also notice their behavior changes a little with the population numbers. With fewer fish, each male will show off to defend his own little patch of plant territory. With more fish, the males sometimes team up, so 2 or 3 will defend a clump of plants together against other groups of males. They show off, but never actually wound each other.

Congrats! :) My panda cories will lay eggs on the glass every once in a blue moon, but I don't have a breeding tank and the eggs never hatch if left on their own, so either they're not fertilized or likely getting eaten.

I went with cherry barbs after visiting here. I put thirteen into an ADA 34 gallon tank that is 24"x 18" x 18" that is heavily planted with good but gentle filtration and a bit of aeration. All is well after several months. Its fun the watch the males display and fidget fight. The females seem much more retiring than the males.

I just subscribed, You are totally the best. I would have never bought cherry barbs because of it being a barb, I'm thinking fin nipper etc. What a wonderful and beautiful fish! I've been doing fish keeping a long time. Until I got a job that required me to move quite a bit. Well you know how difficult moving with aquariums must be, so I unfortunately had to give up the hobby. Now that I have retired, what better time to start up again. Long story short. I have watch A LOT of TH-cam trying to catch up. Why I subscribed to you is, frankly, there is no BS. No whats playing on football, no pushing products, just to the point, you don't lose track of what your taking about, and you use basic and layman's terms. Thank you!! I enjoy your videos.

I know this is a older video you have done, but I got some cherry barbs because they are beautiful fish. I currently have a out break of ick, also to go along with that a few of my females and one of males now have red marks on their sides. I understand it's a infection. I'm treating them with ick-x and melafix, I also have betta and a Albino bristlenose plecostomus that are in fected with ick. I'm going on day 4 with treatments. How long do I treat them for the ick? They are in their ten gallon hospital tank. I went and bought a new tank of 20 to move them into. When will it be safe to move them, they are getting extremely stressed I feel. They are just swimming up and down rapidly, I'm pretty sure it's stress. I have not had fish in 20 years. Thank you so much for sharing your fish room and such.

I know this is an older video but I was considering getting some cherry barbs to replace the neons tetras I got (there was some misinformation I was fed and they aren't a good fit for my tank parameters). How many MAX could I put in a 20 gallon? 10 by themselves? How about with a couple 2in tankmates like guppies or mollies?

ErthFall Horror I have 4 2 inch cherry barbs and three green swordtails in my twenty gallon and I wouldn’t go with more than 6 imo they actually get pretty big and thick and need lots of room to swim I honestly with I had two more but I feel like that would be pushing it for my parameters personally

Added some cherry barbs to my 36gal bowflex a couple months ago, and noticed two fry swimming the tank day before yesterday. Lol, was so excited, never any fry of any kind in my tank before. Just the two, so imagine the rest unhatched or consumed. So far the little critters are holding their own. Tank mates include 5 adult cherry barbs, 5 black neon tetras, 5 hatchets, 2 otto cats and 3 panda Corys.

Your Cherry Barbs seem to have a much longer tail than the ones I've always kept. Mine have a more "standard" tail. They overpopulated my 37 gallon to the point I had to trade with my local fish store. They were really fond of Java fern 'windelov' as were the fry.

It was fate that I bought two of these yesterday. I know there should be more but these were the only two the store had and I figured I'd give em a good home in my 60g. They seem to like to hang with an orange platy I got. I think they think that he is one of them. Haha I wanna check out the gold barb next. When they get old there colors are awesome.

I just purchased 3 cherry barns, and 3 green striped barns. To go in my 20 gallon tank. I also have two albino cory cats and one green cory cat. My question is do I need to put a few more barbs into the tank or would it be safe to put in a few tiger barbs. I had different verities platys before who eventually died of old age and my cory cats were all that remained in the tank. My levels of nitrate, ammonia ect were in great shape but I didn't want to rock the boat by adding too many fish at once. This is my first experience with barbs so hopefully I am doing it right.

Do you think they would be suited to the fluval flex 15 gallon planted tank. I was looking at the chili Rasbora but I think the current would be too strong. I have the 9 gallon flex as a small community tank but thinking of making a colourful species tank with the 15 gallon. One of mine chased another barb out of the aquarium (40x25x25).... after that got even more aggressive and chased a Chinese Danio also out of it. Took the other Danio out and put it in a smaller bowl. One other red barb left in and that one stays hidden in the plants. Not sure if I want to put more barbs in to get the schooling going. I'm afraid it will make it worse. Those two in there now are both males.

You really need a larger group, at least 10 or so (at least 6 females), and a lot of different plants and nooks. They will then concentrate on showing off for each other, claiming tiny territories, and ignore everyone else most of the time. In a proper ratio or sufficient numbers, the boys show off for the girls all the time and mostly ignore everyone else.

This is precisely the type of setup I plan for this spring (when I get back from Costa Rica (ah! the pleasures of retirement.) I plan on using a 100 gal. tank with dense planting. Cherry Barbs have always been a favorite. I plan on using Microgeophagus (I still want to call the Apistos.) ramirezi but basically the same idea, a largish tank with little fish. I do have a question, has anyone here had success keeping shrimp with rams?

Would these be a good fit to go with my white cloud mountain minnows? I've found that it's much harder to find tank mates for them than I thought it would be.

Is possible to put Cherry barbs with my Paradise fish which currently resides in a 29 gallon?

This is funny because I'm about to get cherry barbs for my 29 gallon with a paradise fish, but my paradise fish even though it's a male it's kinda peaceful. I've had him with really colorful platies and he left them alone.

I've notice that you can't put tigger barbs in the with the other fish because they will eat the fins off of the other fish.

My cherry barbs are very territorial with each other, especially the males. There are 4 females and 2 males with a dwarf gourami in a 30 gallon tank.

I have a cherry barb (male) and he is supper aggressive and chases any fish that comes near him. He also has made other fish commit suicide and chase them out of the tank (rimless). He nips fins of other smaller fish, any suggestions on how to calm him down? Thanks!

+Rachel O'leary yeah I know but they are just so cute I am planning on up grading my tank soon but to get the size tank I was told I would need to house 2 clown loaches is expensive so I figure I will upgrade as needed it the best I can do right now but my tank is understocked and I wanted to add barbs but I have my loaches so I have to be careful
