  • Katie and I went surf fishing at Mickler Landing Beach in Ponte Vedra.
    I was using pompano rigs with spin drifters.
    We used a variety of baits to see which one did best.

    Nice pompano! I soak my shrimp in a brine overnight and it firms it up pretty good and the fish like it. 👍

    I typically use a 2 inch layer of rock salt on the bottom then your deheaded and shelled shrimp then another 2 inch layer of rock salt

      Yes. We went during the week too. I was surprised on how busy the beach was during a weekday.
      Can only imagine how busy the weekend would be at this location.
      Lot of people walking the beach and most looking down for sharks teeth.

    If you brine the shrimp they are alot more durable.

    Keep the stingray and eat him too. They’re good. Hard to skin but worth it.

    Circle hooks the almost self setting hook

  • @edorofish
    @edorofish 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Break the shrimp into smaller pieces and they will stay on the hook better. Bait hooks (hooks with barbs on the staff) work better to keep the bait on as well. I caught a huge red drum on a piece of shrimp no bigger than your thumb nail.

    Good day fishing. Did you notice many mullet in the surf that day?

    Out the 3 budget rod combos which would you use?

    • @GetOutTheHouseGoFish
      @GetOutTheHouseGoFish  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m currently still using the Daiwa Surf Rods; I found them at Academy and Walmart for Only $19 and some change.
      I’ve brought Bull reds in with the rod so if your asking about a budget surf rod that would be my choice.
      I also like the Tsunami combo 7 ft rods from Walmart for someone on a budget.
