US former secretary of state Henry Kissinger dies, aged 100. Kissinger served during the Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford administrations. He was behind normalising US-China relations and bringing some stability to the Cold War with the Soviet Union. He also paved the way for human rights abuses of breathtaking scope, such as indiscriminate bombing in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia as well as the destabilisation of democratically elected socialist leaders and support for ruthless pro-American dictators across the globe. He was accused of - at the very least - tacit support for the bloody coup that overturned a leftist government in Chile. Kissinger was both awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and roundly condemned as a war criminal.
