- Is eBay Authentication for Sports Cards Legit or a Scam? I bought a Mickey Mantle 1958 Topps which I was surprised to see came packaged like this? Ebay Authenticity Guranteed Program?

I guess I'm not quite sure why there's eBay "authentication" for graded sports cards from the 3 reputable companies: SGC, PSA, and Beckett. The authentication already took place during the grading process.
Just leaving my thoughts on ebay authentication. I have three cards that were forced to be authenticated. 1. The fact that they are coming in and out of sleeves troubles me, less interaction with the card the better, especially after the fact of the money I had to have out to get this forced authentication.
2. One of my three was a thicker card. They used the same card saver and elastic holders as my standard cards. When I received it you could see the plastic of the card saver pressed down around the card. Very nervous I inspected and couldn't see any damage, but under microscope getting this graded I am still nervous of this affecting the score. They need to think through all of these details and they haven't. Too much money out for a corner to get dinged or surface pick up a scratch by another person looking at the card. I am on the fence, but you can't tell me they won't add defects to cards with this process, even if only a very small percentage it's another risk. No human is perfect. It should be an option. And if they are going to do this anyways they should add the option to get it encased.

My biggest issue with eBay authentication wasn’t as a buyer but a seller I liked the nice touch of putting it in the fancy box I didn’t like that they don’t send it sealed in a one touch though. My biggest concern was I sold a Jeter sp foil that I listed as had scratches and showed the scratch marks and they said card didn’t match description then I released it and it passed through authorization the next time.
I haven't been watching your videos for so long, but it's really fun to watch 🙂
It would be cool if you introduce apps that are available for cards or also like accessories such as suitcases, backpacks, etc.
or maybe good homepages or magazines perhaps? everything around the topic.

I appreciate your content. You represent the hobby extremely well. I would like to see prices on cards in the dealers show cases so I can get a better idea what cards are selling for. Beckett prices don't really represent the everyday prices and values on cards because they move up and down so quickly. Seeing the prices at a show really gives insight on what's hot in the industry. I unfortunately can't attend these shows so I really appreciate it when you bring us along the journey. Safe travels and GOD Bless!
Good stuff here, good reflection. Could maybe explore ways to bring back your roots of selling and collecting memorabilia. Could film the searching and hunting down of some rare mem finds and the process with that. Could make some content around that and meshing it with card shows while in different cities. I’ve seen the soccer TH-cam guys go international to the UK, that would be super cool content for you too. A trip to the Middle East for the World Cup. Lots of options bro!
I bought 2 SWCCG cards, same card from same seller. Both went to ebay authenticity checks and one was refunded by ebay on their end because they said it wasn't in the same condition as it was listed. I give them an A+, since they also spoke to me about what they received.
I think year in review videos would be fun. No specific format necessarily, just talk about some of your favorite memories/experiences throughout the year…

I downloaded that Whatnot app. Honestly is SUPER confusing maybe I'm just not getting it but I don't understand it at all.

Hey Mojo I've been watching you for a couple of months and just wanted to tell you to do what you want and it will come off well. You are a naturally likeable guy and I think behind the scenes stuff would be great but I think you doing anything is A-OK. The big win as a seller here is that once it's authenticated by eBay the buyer can't return it.
I buy from you on whatnot and I get my stuff in 2 days and I live in CT. I ordered stuff 2 states away and it takes 2 weeks. Your doing awesome
As an occasional seller, I hate eBay authentication. I have two high-end PSA graded cards I bought not long ago. The original sellers of these shipped to authenticator and I got the cards shipped to me from there. No issues. Now that I am selling these back on eBay in need of a little extra cash as already eBay authenticated, eBay is still forcing me to send back through their authenticity program. Im having a hard time understanding how this makes sense. They now are triple authenticating all the same cards they already authenticated to make sure their labels arent tampered with. This is absolutely ridiculous. Whats the point in doing this? Why not find a way to upload the QR code for the item and be done with it? Why do sellers have to keep being forced to authenticate the same cards for no reason?

I don’t mind the free offering eBay is doing for authentication. However when they start charging for it, I would not pay extra for it. Last week I did receive 2 cards and the eBay “holders” they sent had some scratches on it. I contacted them, sent pictures, and they immediately sent 2 new blue eBay holders for free.
Yeagh one my card it said Dont remove it From the Plastic or its No Longer Authenticated

Hello Jay - in terms of what to collect, I think a dark horse (for a little longer) is Justin Fields of the Chicago Bears. He finally seems to have figured out the pro game and he’s inexpensive (I.e. worth the risk).
As tô content, why not let us know how you started and why you love the hobby/business. It can’t be just for the money because you work way too hard for just thst

So if you resell the authenticated card does it have to be reauthenticated
I’m wondering this as well because I see listings showing cards for sale sitting in the authentically sleeve with the “authenticated by ebay sticker”. Did they buy it and resell it or did they get them authenticated ahead of time and have a bunch of authenticated cards ready to sell. It would worry me if they can get a card pre authenticated and skip the process when a buyer buys a card because that would surely lead to people switching out non authenticated cards for authenticated cards and the buyer would have no recourse. Just a thought.
The fact that you younger guys worry about litteral day to day states and move prices around by the hour is exactly why this side of card collecting is the way it is. Collect because you like it, not because your trying to make a million dollars. Money is a byproduct of the love for collecting

the grading company has already been authenticated for grading....its pointless unless its ungraded
Just to give you some feedback. Your content is cool. But personally I loved the old memorabilia/ graphing videos. I just like memorabilia better than cards. Just sharing MOJO
The eBay authentication is so stupid. It’s already graded by a grading company. I prefer getting the card straight from the seller.
You’re an excellent steward of the hobby. Talk about how that is done and make content around that. Like you are already doing.

Man thank you. I’m so into it right now. I’ve never done vintage in my life like true baseball vintage so I’m having a blast. I’m still confused on white vs gray back Koufax. 😟
It is a different beast for sure but at least for me, and hopefully for you as well, once you take the plunge you just go deeper into all these great cards, designs, and players, it just gets more fun and more nuanced. As for Koufax, the white back is the rare version on 56 but, if you aren’t doing the whole PWCC registry type of thing then I would just get the cleanse 56 visually that you can with strong colors and centering regardless of gray back or white. There is a lot of debate on values but I typically haven’t found the spread to be that great except higher grade versions of the white backs. Typically maybe 15-20% premium etc.

I got my first eBay authenticated card today. The stickers were on the PSA holder and no clue who the "experts" were that said it's real. I'm done buying on eBay. The dealer who sold it was a rude, insulting jerk, too. They won't honor returns even though the holder was destroyed!
