    Beautiful trees and scenery. It did look a lot like Virginia or New England. Driving home on the second day was especially pretty with the blue skies and sun. • @RhettyforHistory
      @RhettyforHistory  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The scenery is different in Southern California but pretty in it's own way. For the most part the mic did pretty well. It was a little loud doing outside shots on the miata. The biggest issue was just keeping vibrations down because the miata is a little rough riding over bumps. Thanks for watching!

    • @TheGraveyardChannel
      @TheGraveyardChannel 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RhettyforHistory Well, if you had to edit it, you did a great job leveling out the audio. It was professional quality. Viewers don't realize how difficult it is to deal with car vibrations, wind, putting the mic too close to your vocal chords, etc. :-) And, yes, we get every color of the rainbow in nature, even here in the desert. It can be very beautiful, but those colorful trees in your neck of the woods are awesome!

      It was in the first few days of November. The leaves change at different times each year. So sometimes the peak time period is later October to almost mid November. Usually there are a few places that do reports on the leaves changing. Talimena chamber of commerce is one. You can call them or look on Facebook probably. I think it's best to go when the reports say it is good. There is one issue with that though. The hotels and motels are all full. People book those months and even a year in advance to guess on when it will happen. It may mean you have to go way out of the way to get a hotel if you are wanting experience it more than one day. I hope this helps some. Thank you for watching!

    Rhetty, thank you for allowing us to come along on your drive through Talimena Scenic Trail. The scenery is beautiful
    and I enjoyed your commentary which was very relaxing to listen to and didn't distract from the views you were driving along. This year has been particularly colourful in Autumn, perhaps because the Summer months were spectacularly warm here in Ireland.

      You're welcome and thank you for joining us on the drive. I've thought about Ireland a lot this year as we've had more rain than normal and everything has really been green this year. We just had a snow this week and the grass is still green and leaves were on the tree. I really don't recall that ever happening here. Almost sounds like we've switched climates.

    I absolutely LOVE that part of the state. My favorite place though is Natural Falls State Park. Have you guys been there yet?

      That is a great spot! I have been there but Sarah has not. Maybe we can tackle that this next year.

      She'll love it, especially if the main falls are flowing. I took my wife and it wasn't flowing at the time.

      Was that because we were in a drought? I didn't think about there being times where it wouldn't flow.

    • @EagleTalonZ
      @EagleTalonZ 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I do believe that is what caused it. It was definitely a surprise to me as well. I assumed it always flowed but I was wrong.

      Yeah unless there was a drought I would have assumed the same thing.

    Mena also has many events each year that include rally on the mountain. Also a lodge on the mountain recently refurbished recently.
    Mena is a sweet little town that survives on tourist dollars.

    'Fallen' women and suicides are a couple of reasons that certain burials were not allowed in consecrated ground. You would see their graves just outside the boundaries of a cemetery as in your video, just outside of the fence. An interesting little mystery for this pioneer cemetery.

      Yes you're right. Sometimes its criminals or African Americans as well. It's a mystery with this one since we have name or history. Wish we did though.

    I'm glad you found the historical cemetery on the drive. I know you found one grave outside of the fenced area. There are actually more. Mainly very old graves of children. If you read the markers it becomes apparent that some kind of plague swept through the area killing a lot of children. There is also graves of children from one family that was killed in a fire. If I remember right the family lost 4 kids. They is lots of tragedy in that little cemetery. I don't know why the fence area doesn't include the entire cemetery.

      That is strange to have a fence only around some. Especially when family is involved. Sure makes me wonder why. This little cemetery is one of the many great stops on this route. Thank you for watching!

    You should come down any other time. I live 1 mile from the drive and I can sit at one of the Vista's and not see any vehicles for a couple hours.

    Rhetty, I 've been enjoying all your videos so far and am learning some info that I never knew before. I appreciate you coming to Arkansas when you can.
    We have a very nice state with lot's to see. I wanted to encourage you to visit the Lum & Abner museum just little farther down the road east from Mena the next time you're in that part of the state. It's small little museum that you might find fun and interesting. I've included a link to where it is located. Keep up the good work.
