Every session should be open it’s BS

I was told about a 15 years ago that there were a few people in high places at the Club that felt the biggest threat to Carlton making money, playing finals and winning its next flag was a large chunk of the membership base.
A wall was slowly built and members went from owners of the club to consumers.
They were SCARED of challenges by what they called “outsiders” to board positions etc. They pushed to change the constitution so that emergency General meetings became very difficult to trigger by ordinary members.
The shifting of the AGM to just before the start of the following season and closed training sessions are all part of the wall built to separate members AND THEIR CONCERNS from the players and club officials.
It was different when I grew up living walking distance from Princes Park.
I felt part of the club and officials and players would often stop and have lengthy conversations with fans at training sessions.
Some very heated arguments- but respect was there and love for the navy blue jumper and players was at the core.
    It was a community.
The Blues are the worst at it today when they were the best in the past.
The Club was never SCARED of its members. Players didnt need security - we were the security.
I sometimes watch the Bulldogs train and the atmosphere reminds me of the past at Princes Park.

@@Ducatirati Agree....but our club still has an iron wall erected between members and its decisions makers - even between players and fans.
They're scared - and it has shown in the club's performances. Turned the corner a little bit under Voss, but the challenges facing the coach are not entirely Football related in my opinion.
It will need to come from the playing group and my connection is with the players - we should rally around them when they are trying their best. and they should expect criticism if they show mediocrity or disinterest.
First step is to open up the ground during training sessions for the fans.

What are the intangibles, that make a footy club a footy club , I think ppl forget too readily and now for my generation , 8 flags , to can't get a kick in a stampede, all need to revist 1910 , when Collingwood won that year's GF , at CARLTONS expense as Collingwood bribed Carlton and Sth Melb players , two suspended for 18 mths and heaps of other malice , but , when the gravity of Collingwoods actions became evident ,Carlton Commitee , called an all members extraordinary meeting , deal with certain distasteful disgusting and then Read a Decree , that never again, shall CARLTON ever EVER lose another G F to Collingwood , This ACTUALLY is a rivalry , Carl Def Coll 1915 GF , Carlton Def Coll 1938 GF , Carl Def Coll 1970 GF in front of 121,696 ppl , a record crowd , Carl Def Coll 1979 GF , Carl Def Coll 1981 GF , 130 plus years now that is A rivalry the OLDEST , this is where CARLTON cut her teeth , That is Carlton , and all must watch this and get on the same page , all will balance if we all pull together as a team . There are many hateful, nasty, loudmouthed members who think they can go along amd criticise and joke from the stands.
That would be a huge distraction.

Its irrelevent whether we were good or bad at that time, we still didnt want outsiders at the club or distractions.

A branding dilemma - home of CFC, Cleaning company, home of AFLWhatevs or Princess Park (the park belongs to the local council). They don't want the public to be damaging the surface. A cloak of secrecy around our game plan/Mr Men book. They don't want the heads of the families conducting business there/don't want to feature in another crime series.
