This is a good tip for improving Scalextric track conductivity. For those in the US try Permatex Dielectric Tune Up since you can't get Contralube here.
Where do you get the very outer corners please .....can easily get the 6 lanes but making 8 with scalextric is so hard ...thanks
I used to go to one in Brooklyn when I was a kid in the early 1960s that was probably 20x bigger than this set up. Anyone remember it, I believe it was called family hobby center and it was on Ralph Ave in mill basin near the Gil hodges bowling alley. I had some bad ass cars that were top of the line.... Faster than real cars...they were like $15 with a controller. They had all kinds of customization, wheels, gold plated brushes....they had a pro shop too... There were spotters around the banked turns that would put your car back on the track when they went flying off at 90 mph. It was like 50 cents an hour....they had a snack bar and it was a really organized kinda thing, all different clubs would race against each other. Guys would walk in with these suitcase type cases and open them up with 3 or four custom cars and super controllers, oil, brushes and maintenance kits. It was really a whole industry. Jam packed on a Fri or Sat night. Probably 1964-1967 really really cool. I wonder why they are no more???? Great hobby and if they made a comeback it would be awesome. Give some of these misguided kids something to do
Rc cars are better and how are they misguided?
Suggest building a timber, routed track with copper braid. Can't pull it apart or modify the layout, but electrical issues are non-existent due to the lack of track joins. Will probably work out more economical than buying all the Scaley plastic track and sitting it on timber anyway. Copper braid is available in magnetic type, or non-magnetic
+Megan Cadden I agree, I make them out of MDF and copper tape, the cost and poor performance of plastic track make this a head scratcher. Sorry just had to say.
+Megan Cadden Have to disagree apart from the cost. You can't beat a Ninco track for reliability. The braid on wooden track often lifts too. I've been running my Ninco track commercially for 13-years and never had a track problem and it's 41m 8-lanes and has seen over 3700 parties and events in that time!

Dynamic braking is nothing new, we used it back in the 60's when I was racing - and the cars back then were as fast, if not faster, than these. There are much, much, much faster tracks nowadays. Still looks like fun though.
Excuse my ignorance, but I'm in the United States and was wondering if slot cars are popular in the UK or if this is a niche thing that a few participate in. I've grown into modifying real cars (thankfully politicians haven't ruined that here yet) but wouldn't mind resurrecting my old Tyco Magnum cars from my childhood. Thanks!
+MrAristes The Europeans seem the maddest but yes, its still a thing here..if smaller. I have written for Max Power, Fast Car and Top Gear magazines..about modified cars and audio!
MrAristes I remember there was an indoor track that used to be in Ocean City, MD. but that was in 2001. Dont know if it's still there. I still own an Ho scale crome 25yrs ago And I'm 58. Good luck to you.
Thanks Ronin! I live in MD and cruise OCMD in the Fall with my buddies. I'll have to check that out, hope it's still there. It would be a blast. If you go to OCMD Endless Summer and see a silver WS-6 Trans Am making turbo noises it's probably me.

sorry too say its not but its not the fastest track ever. there are clubs that have tracks and cars that do 120 km/h. it also looks kinda like an easy track though i didnt realy get to see the entire track.

What scale is this? I'm used to ho scale slot cars.
looks like the most common scale to me,1/32. for sure not 1/43(carrera go) it could be 1/28(ninco has 2, 28 and 32)
For a track of this size, why not build it from MDF, with continuous Magnabraid, which would be less expensive and eliminate all conductivity problems? Also you can avoid the tight Scalextric inner corners which are zero fun to drive, in my opinion.

This looks like a nightmare. 1/32 scale is a joke.

1/32 scale is by far the best scale, with cars that are accurate models of real racing cars, as compared with 1/24 scale rockets which have all the realism of a folded paper airplane. 1/24 scale DROVE THIS HOBBY INTO THE GROUND in the USA, going from some 5000 commercial circuits in the 60's, to a handful today. The lack of realism, and the focus of speed as the only important aspect, left behind anybody who really loves cars.
