    I would've been fine with the price/ price per piece if they had done the light grey in chrome like it should've been. Honestly as a huge Corvette enthusiast since I was born (born into it), I'll probably get it, but if there had been chrome it would've been a day one purchase for sure!

      I'm surprised they didn't at least go with drum lacquered silver for this, since they tend to do that for this kind of set...very odd.

    • @M0torsagmannen

      @@titanic_monarch796 yeah that would have been the obvious choice considering the lack of proper chrome these days

      @@M0torsagmannen They usually use it for these sets (at least the ones I have) so it's pretty unusual that they haven't here.
      Maybe they ran out of recolour budget? I can't really tell the reason.

    Dang…I dunno. Definitely major lost opportunity by using grey instead of metallic trim, and weird that they couldn’t print a new sticker for the rims. But it really hurts to see that they couldn’t recreate the actual lines of the car-the boxy, flat front end is a little jarring. Same with that major break going into the back end. With a car that is defined by those subtle arches, it makes me wonder if they should have attempted this one at all. I agree it looks cool, but it doesn’t seem to look like a corvette… Am I being too picky?
    Great review!

    • @paulvansommeren
      @paulvansommeren ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Exactly, the curviness of the original car is just too hard to recreate in Lego, only because of the white side element it's recognizable as the Corvette

    • @Jefe86
      @Jefe86 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately agree. They should have gone with a higher piece count to increase the pieces being used to recreate that iconic front end. Even if it meant a (reasonably) higher price point.

    • @RagenRibbonz
      @RagenRibbonz ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Doesn’t the square front end look more like a ‘57-58 Thunderbird after you refresh? Argh. Just feels even more wrong after looking back. Not that I’m some muscle car aficionado, but I’m definitely at least a fan, and every line is what distinguishes any one model/year from another…so maybe I’m more than most? But yeah, think this one hit wrong on a gut level.
      Currently building two $200+ Lego sets, so…just saying that only to show I’m not trying to hate here! Lol. Just…argh. Ouch.

    Despite being overpriced still looks a great building experience, and display model. Car overall looks great, and really like how it scales with the other class cars, new windshield/printed elements, and seamless functional trunk. Could've used a bit more finesse around the front, and hardtop section, especially for that price. While it's still less Lego than most of the Creator car lineup the value seems to be about the same in what you build, and that the only optional pieces not used are the alternate license plates/hardtop. The same can't be said for the Mustang, Porsche or even Camaro which in some cases leave you with a lot of extra never used.

    I don't know too much about legal and illegal building techniques but maybe the piece on a print is not illegal because there is nothing on top of it?
    in the example you showed, the lego logo introduces a small bump that means that if there's another piece holding them in position, then the logo will rub into the top piece.
    On the corvette, there is no other piece holding down the transparent brick, so it doesn't push into the print, and doesn't damage it.

    I respect your opinion, Tiago, but I have to disagree on how this model is shaped--it's worse. Yes, the hard top is a miss, but an entire front 2/3rds of the vehicle looks bad.
    2:04 shows the actual car's side profile, and of course LEGO has limitations, but everything from where the white inset begins to the front of the car is too straight and horizontal. All the swoopiness of the front fenders is gone. This is just not a good car to render with LEGO, at least at this scale, or in this rendition.
    The only part that looks good is the back third.

    I have all of them but the Defender classic, plus the Mustang.
    They all look great but the best overall IMO is the Ecto-1.
    I'd list best and worst of each:
    Ecto-1:
    Best: looks. It's stunning
    Worst: After some months, the swiveling seat doesn't work anymore, cause of too tight tolerances (It rubs against the floor)
    DeLorean:
    Best: Gullwing Doors and reclining wheels mechanism
    Worst: these Bloody wheels fall off all the time if you play with It, they are too loose on the pins
    Mustang:
    Best: superb Door hinges mechanism, works and looks perfect
    Worst: Doors fit too snug to the body, so they are sometimes hard to close
    Camaro:
    Best: colours options, very light steering to play with (cause of narrower wheels)
    Worst: very difficult to open the Hood
    911:
    Best: difficult round lines matchrd very realistically and very nice engine
    Worst: it's the simpler of the lot in terms of features
    Corvette:
    Well I just got It, no experience of It... But right off the bat I'd say I love the under-chassis-steering-rack technique and yes, the Chrome bits should have been... Chrome!
    The Defender I suspect could be one of the best.. but hell it's expensive

Also, the lack of chrome happened because a. ironically enough, LEGO wanted to keep the cost of the vehicle from being more expensive than it is now, b. chrome LEGO Elements are some of the most expensive LEGO Elements to make, c. chrome LEGO Elements are also some of the most expensive LEGO Elements that a person can buy, d. chrome LEGO Elements are also harder to find than the vast majority of other LEGO Elements, e. chrome LEGO Elements honestly do not keep their chrome for long, as plastic chromed items tend to lose their chrome far quicker than metal objects that are dipped in chrome, and f. using chrome on things is honestly an environmentally unfriendly act, as chroming objects not only makes the chrome have environmentally harmful byproducts, but that the very process of chroming something, especially plastic, is harmful, and LEGO already gets enough criticism for using plastic for its Elements and its Bags, as plastic production is also a toxic process. Now as for the roof shape, honestly, LEGO did the best that they could, given their options for Elements, as well as keeping the LEGO Set from becoming more expensive. The only thing that LEGO could have done to make any sort of relatively inexpensive improvement on the roof of the car would have been to have made a new Element that would have been arguably the lightest Angled Slope Element that had ever been made by LEGO, and even doing that would have been a Herculean task. Finally, I am surprised that you had mentioned LEGO Sets that are this size that have been based on real world vehicles and you completely dismissed the 1969 Ford Mustang. How can you mention the other LEGO vehicle Sets and not have mentioned that one? Also, who cares what is considered as "legal", and what is considered as "illegal" in the terms of making things from LEGO? Is not the whole point of LEGO literally to use your imagination to build something? Moreover, if LEGO, yourself, and/or anyone else that thinks like yourself, cannot even be consistent in what you all deem as "legal" and "illegal" building techniques, then, honestly, what is the point, let alone the purpose of them even existing in the first place?

      The point of legal and illegal building techniques isn't to tell you what you can and can't do when making your own things, they only exist as guidelines for lego themselves as they can cause stress on the plastic and cause pieces to break over time

      @@tarnsanders259 Though the no contact with printed pieces might be more about avoiding damage to the print than damage to the plastic. I don't think the print is thick enough to stress plastic pushed against it - but that piece might rub or twist on the print and damage it.

      @@jonathan_60503 Sorry, you're right, I was speaking more generally, but the point still stands that "illegal" techniques are just guidelines for Lego themselves rather than strict rules all builders must follow

    I have mixed feelings about this one. It would look amazing if it wouldn't have the headlights so weirdly mounted. There should really be some curvature around them

    The front is really flat, no shape at all! Front axle's seem to bend? I'll hold my money for next car!

    I really have a problem with the front. The curves of the original car just don't look good on this lego model, and it feels a bit like the uncanny valley of looking at a robot. I had the same issue with the Aston Martin James Bond car at this scale. Those are 2 of the most beautiful cars ever made and in my opinion don't look beautiful in Lego. And if I would display the model, I wouldn't be able to look past it 😕. If they ever do a Jaguar E-type I hope they get the curves perfecty right.

    Why is Lego so hesitant to use chrome ? It would take the attractiveness of this car (and all the other ones ) to the next level and somewhat negate the high price per piece

    150€ is overpriced. 120€ and with discount 100€ would be okay. This thing has similar count of pieces than the Beetle for 90€ 2016
    But in my opinion the price increase of Mustang, Porsche wasn't fair. 130€ -> 170€ is 🤯
    Also, more flat silver instead of light blue grey would be nice
