I remember this special though not because I watched it live (I was a baby in ‘01). My mom had a habit of taping stuff like this on VHS for me and my older brother to rewatch. We had an 8 hour VHS of the Night of the Living Doo marathon full of Scooby episodes, the Gary Coleman cutaways, and old toy commercials. We would watch it as kids to fall asleep during summer. Sadly, the tape disappeared at some point in the later 2000s. Not sure what ever happened to it though I have a theory that my a hole dad probably took it from our room to tape it over as he had a habit of “accidentally” erasing our VHSs to put his own crap on it. My brother still has hope that it’s somewhere in our attic as that’s the only place we haven’t looked though I’m afraid that if it is up there it’s probably taped over or so degraded from heat that it won’t play.
It was aired on [as] on 2003, Halloween. I was watching a re-upload of the original airing when I saw this. I wonder if [as] is holding any more of these..
2:39 LOL THAT LOOK ON HIS FACE! And then the pause before it cuts back to Gary without any explanation. Holy shit it's almost surreal, seeing a 60s cartoon with modern humor. I love it
It's surreal to hear that they didn't redub the voice clips of Don messicks version of Scooby-Doo for the clips of the new Scooby-Doo movies intro seen in the intro of this speical that chase song was excellent as well I loved it alot also the fact that they use some old footage of the classic series for some sences of this speical is pretty excellent and really cool to see it agian and I love how they reused the orginal series background music in this
Yeah, it’s definitely odd they went through the trouble to replace Shaggy’s line, but left Scooby’s. And I also think it was really cool the way they reused a lot of the animation sequences that the original series frequently reused… the one that’s like a close up of Fred talking I remember getting used all the time.
@Will N, "Legend of the Vampire" and "Monster of Mexico" are more different than "What's New," being more or less a dead-on throwback to the original shows the way this special is, even going as far as to get Heather North as Daphne and Nicole Jaffe as Velma. "What's New" is like a more realistic and lighthearted version of the first four direct-to-video movies that generally strictly follows the classic "bad guy in disguise" formula. But then years later, "Scooby-Doo and Guess Who" would come out, which is also a lot like "Night of the Living Doo" here, combined with those 2002-03 direct-to-video throwback movies.
Daphne: I can't wait to get to the big Halloween movie festival. Shaggy: And I can't wait to eat an extra double large popcorn, super-sized soda and jumbo chocolate bar. Scooby: Me too!
Same you're never to old for Scooby-Doo I've been Bing watching the series a lot recently never get tired of watching its been a big part of my childhood and it's impacted my life it's also given me such positivity as of lately also awsome to see Mark Hamill in a Scooby-Doo crossover
my guess after gary fell down a trap door someone must of knockeed him out then sprayed him with zombie green paint similar to how the snow ghost did to shaggy except after falling shaggy passed out after seeing the snow ghost and it was ghost white paint
I was in kindergarten and only got to watch some of the marathon. My vaguest memories being “who the hell was that black guy in the red jumpsuit?” I had no idea until more than a decade later that they made up a whole story that stretched between the entire marathon! Or the other previous Scooby marathons!
I think somebody who worked for the animation company had it up once...? I unfortunately didn't really keep great track on my hard drive about where stuff came from.
@@giotrapani7852 I think he's good, but he can't do as much of the high pitched voice-breaks in his shaggy voice, compared to Casey's shaggy (and other shaggy voice actors like Matthew Lillard and Billy West).
I've been lookin everywhere for this and wanting to know how it started and how it ended. At first i've always thought it was my imagination not knowing the guess stars but now I know this special episode was real 😂😂😂😂
this is classic, tho i notice, at 2:40, Fred Flattens the rear right tire but you see Gary jack up the left rear of the vehicle. dont know how he pulled that off.......but hey, he's Gary Coleman!

1:27 Velma: You can't eat that! Chocolate is poison for dogs! You've got that right, Velma! Just because Orange is my favorite color which is your shirt, and you should tell that to the writers of "Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo"! Besides, for anyone who remembered watching "Scooby Doo and Scrappy Doo" S1 episode "Shiver and shake that demon's a Snake", I saw the part where Scooby was about to eat Devil's fudge chocolate cake, but Scrappy took the whole cake, and the writers have forgotten about the fact that Chocolate is poison to dogs! That devil's fudge Chocolate cake could have killed Scrappy! Not likely if Dogs who can talk were amune to Chocolate!

You and me both. Not to mention, this episode was never mentioned in The New Scooby Doo Movies, and this special has the same title card..
They need to do more Scooby Doo animated specials and crossovers like this. This is gold.
This is comedic gold, one of the best pieces of Scooby media out there
3:06 So Fred and The Mystery Machine ALWAYS had a hostile relationship with special guest stars and crossovers.
Well he wasn’t that obsessed with the van back then specially on this
You should see a comic series when Fred refused to pick up a hitchhiker (who happened to be a ghost BTW)z

Something about reusing the lightning animation really cracks me up
Ian Hawke is so powerful he managed to switch realities 🥶
Henry Kissinger... the most evil scooby doo villain
I did not expect him to be canonical to Scooby Doo.

Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? Take notes. This is how you make a celebrity special/episode
This feels so much like a precursor to "Scooby-Doo and Guess Who." (I know it's actually parodying "The New Scooby-Doo Movies," but still.)
Only Millennials can say that.
Brings Back memories from Halloween 2001 when I was in Sixth Grade Middle School.
