There are plenty of other ways to follow their story: Movies - "Mary, Queen of Scots" from 1970 with Vanessa Redgrave and Glenda Jackson, and the more current version with Margaret Robbie, although I personally can't vouch for it; "Elizabeth" with Cate Blanchett, but the second half of the movie butchers history, Robert's reputation and the relationship between Elizabeth and Robert after the first few years of her reign. Don't bother with the sequel. TV series - "The Virgin Queen;" "Elizabeth R," but I don't know WHY Robert Hardy was chosen as Robert Dudley (he looked too old and dumpy right from the start);"Elizabeth I" with Helen Mirren (first episode), with caveats (Elizabeth never exiled Robert from court for 7 years!) The book/novel I recommend above all others - "Legacy" by Susan Kay. It may be hard to find, but worth the effort. There are countless other novels about Elizabeth, which usually include some aspect of her relationship with Robert Dudley, depending on what the focus of novel is. There are also many nonfiction books and documentaries. Do your research!
@@gogreen7794 it’s kind of presumptive to tell me to “do my research” based solely on a comment I left expressing frustration that the show was canceled, no? I have already seen/read everything else that you listed.
Too bad that Cate Blanchett's portrayal of Elizabeth in "Elizabeth" was diminished by the movie's trashing of Robert Dudley's reputation. Their special relationship, which lasted until his death about 30 years after the movie's time frame, sustained them both. When he died, she wanted to die. Her ministers had to knock down the doors to her private rooms where she went to grieve. They were afraid she wouldn't come out after 3 days.
Elizabeth relied on Robert's support. When he died, she wanted to die. Her ministers had to knock down the doors to her rooms after his death. She locked herself in for three days. That said, Elizabeth attended Robert's wedding to Amy when they were all teenagers. It was no secret, quiet affair.
I think his being married was good for both of them. I think she loved him with all her heart but if they wed he'd take the thrown from her even though he did want a wife. In a way it worked out for the best even though it very likely lead to infidelity.
Do I need to watch this bc this is the shittest Robert Dudley ever. Joseph Fiennes. Tom Hardy. What is even happening. Chemistry? No. Please I want to be wrong

They should have moved on.
They were childhood friends, the best of friends... How could they move on?
