    Nice job on trimming the socket so it doesn’t get stuck in the rocker arm. Keep posting more videos

      Awesome thank you! Sounds like a great project. We just got finished up with a 71 sports roof. Added EFI and A/C. Those cars are awesome and don't get enough credit. I think their body lines are amazing.

    Nice video. That’s the way I adjust my valves on my 331 stroker. It my have been an oversight but I didn’t hear you mention the direction that you turn the crank. Maybe you didn’t mention it because if you don’t know, you really shouldn’t be adjusting the valves in the first place.

      @@AlfsMustangGarage. Your correct at the 10:20 mark but at that time I was listening more than watching since I’ve adjusted my valves many times in the past. I guess I didn’t hear you say clockwise or counter clockwise and that’s why I posted what I did. My mistake. Love your video’s, I’ve picked up some pointers here and there. 👍

    Afternoon Alex! I have those non-adjustable rockers on my 460. But my 408 351W stroker roller motor swap will have your 289 set up. No need for a 7000+ rpm motor for the street. I saw one channel that adjusted two cylinders per 90 deg i think. Is that possible? I will do your method of two full crank rotations though. Thanks for sharing Alex, always on point easy to understand and good little tips throughout the video. Cheers and blessings to you and yours from Motown. (Dearborn)

      Hi Robert! Yes, there are methods out there to adjust 2 cylinders at once. I feel it's difficult to teach someone who is just learning basics of this stuff. So that's why I like to keep it simple and just do one at a time. And honestly, that's how I do it every time anyways. Thanks for always being here!

    My question is... the pushrod rotate whit finger when correct adjust (zero lash and 3/4 of a turn)?
    When i remove the valve cover I can rotate some pushrod whit my finger... can I supposed are bad adjustment on this valve? Thanks!

    It is not very clear to me how to install the 1431-16 rocker arm with a 289 cylinder head. Could you explain how it could be done?

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You need to have the correct type of valve and rocker stud. The stud needs to be an adjustable type stud. The valve has to sit higher to accommodate the "rail" type channel on the rocker tip. Otherwise there is nothing to keep the rocker arm in place. Go back though this video and I show you how the rocker tip has a channel that goes over the valve stem. On a traditional 289, the valve stem is basically flush with the top of the valve spring and so there would be nothing to keep the rocker arm in place. We had 351 heads on this engine and we had valves installed with longer stems in order to accommodate this. I would recommend talking with your local machine shop to see if they can build your heads with the correct valves in order to use these rockers.

    Since the 351 heads have 1/2" bolts, what did you do about the stock 7/16" bolts fitting?

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I'm not sure which bolts you're referring to.

    • @davidlibby5430
      @davidlibby5430 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The head bolts on a stock 289 are 7/16" diameter. 351 head bolts are 1/2" diameter. Not to say it would not work, just stating fact. I believe aftermarket blocks are all 1/2" diameter.

      From what you're describing, its hard to imagine that you have that many multiple problems. I would double check your connections at the battery, double check the battery, and then double check the ground connection from the battery to the engine, and the ground from the engine to the firewall.

      @@mcoles4172 tightening too much past zero lash can cause the valves to not completely close when the lifters fully pump up with oil... Personally I find that solid lifters are way better because you get more valve train stability at high rpm.
