*I used to fish with a Crippled Killer growing up in the 50/60’s and **enjoyable.fishing** recommend think this lure gas a smoother propeller action. It is a great surface lure.*
Wow man that action is so legit! Impressive sir, thank you for the detailed process you use to create these masterpieces. I’m just getting into making my own lures and the quality of yours is exactly what I’m striving for. 🤙🏼
Bro...had no idea that this is what it takes! My o my! Tip my hat to u Mr Fretthold...GAINER! ..that thru wire segment was the how do they get the caramilk in the caramilk bar secret for me! Meticulous work..thank you for ur dedication to the craft!
You do an amazing job man , loved this video!! Very cool to see your process! Your band saw is sooo much better than mine lol Loved the dogs running around the shop too , just such a legit and laid back video! Love to see more of these man!
i love watching this vid it motivates me when im feeling lazy ........gets me in the shop building where i should be....if only it could motivate we to clean my shop now that would be something.....lol make more vids mike your good at them............toothy out
Awesome video!! I’m starting a similar jointed musky sized lure and was wondering about your weight size and placement. Yours seemed to run quite well in the water. I’m unsure about where and how much weight I will use but am trying to avoid having to drill and add more after it’s finished. Is there a calculation for how much weight is needed or did you just figure out from experience? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you! Those wires serve to pin the lip to the bait. The lips get epoxied in but even epoxy could fail if it was hit hard enough or enough pressure was put on it. The pins will reinforce the epoxy and secure the lip in place.
nice work as always. why don't you use a router with a round over bit after you cut the shape with the band saw? save some time instead of sanding all by hand. I, personally, like the gap between the jointed part really small. When swimming with a small gap, the wood on the two parts will hit eachother side to side and make a clacking/rattling sound. Makes the fish hear it(i think). Just make sure to cut an angle on each side of the jointed part. So that when they meet, it's flat and makes a nice sound like clapping hands. Once again, i really enjoy watching your videos and thank you very much for sharing
That's how most of my baits are made however this one was not about saving time for taking any shortcuts. Hand carving is a lot of fun and makes for something unique.
You are sick! The level of talent is truly next level. Is there a rule of thumb when it come to the bill size? As far as the with and length according to the lure size? Thank you for sharing your love! 💯
Hey man great work!! Thank you for sharing, I’ve learned a lot from your videos!’ I was wondering what type, and gauge wire you use? I read in another post you got it from a local welding shop... thanks bro✌️
I like that table vise you sit down at and round off the corners with the planer. What’s that called? Awesome work man everything you do is precise and planned out so well. Pretty awesome jigs and work shop you have to make the process easily repeatable. Awesome stuff dude! I love the lure vids.
Awesome video once again. What is the name of the tool you re using at 1min 38?? Been looking for that for a while now! Thanks, keep up the good work :)
Killer lure and great edits! But man you gotta be really careful if you're going to sand or file lead like that. The dust and fine particles that come off it are toxic if you breathe them in, you might be better off putting it in a different cavity than the hook hangers and drilling it out or chiseling it down.
@@FrettholdBaits As far as I can tell, you're the only lure-maker on TH-cam who uses a spokeshave to shape his/her wooden baits. I've tried a carefully sharpened chisel, a rasp and file, and a locking-blade utility knife with a fresh blade. I'm not wild about any of these and have often wondered about the effectiveness of a spokeshave. Apparently, it works well, but even at a quarter speed (!) your hands were moving so fast that I couldn't see precisely how you were using the spokeshave. And, you didn't explain it verbally. So, I didn't really learn from someone who CLEARL'Y has skills, instinct, and experience that could greatly benefit amateurs like me.

Your process of bait making is very respectable. Dont see as many makers these days taking that much care from blank block to water.....bravo.

From one bait maker to another..... outstanding!

there is more than one james reynolds who makes baits...
Your channel should blow up (in a good way)!! This is amazing!
I can't believe you don't have more followers, I certainly subscribed when I found your channel. Why not learn from those ahead of me!
Sick video as usual buddy.
Nice work! Had to watch it at half speed but for those that don’t make baits it probably perfect
👍👍 Perfect bait for Pike here in Sweden
Great to watch, well done.
Tnx 4 sharing!
Thee big question: how long did it take to build that remarkable, beautiful lure?
So awesome. I would love to throw one of those for big stripers!
What tool do u use to carve the chamfer. Great work!
A spoke shave
amazing work, can i ask what type of wood that is? cedar?
Any rhyme or reason to amount of lead added to the bait? Is it for depth reasons or just to keep the bait upright in the water?
Wow dude the amount of work need to charge $300 great job man!!!!!
Hi there, great vid.. where can I see an overview of your products???

Amazing job
Good afternoon. Great bait you get. Tell me, why do you use a gas burner after applying epoxy?
Pop bubbles
This was very entertaining to watch and showed a lot of great techniques. Whats the purpose of the wires being inserted on the top at 5:56?
Thank you! Those wires serve to pin the lip to the bait. The lips get epoxied in but even epoxy could fail if it was hit hard enough or enough pressure was put on it. The pins will reinforce the epoxy and secure the lip in place.
@@FrettholdBaits Thanks for the reply... that's what I though but they didn't look long enough.
As long as they go through the wood, the lip, and wood again, I'm happy with it. Some guys use screws. I prefer the rods.

100% with you on that one. working, feeling the wood is really fun.
what do you use for the through wire?
do muskey or pike go for Crank shad in cold water ?

Thank you!
Can West Systems 105 and 206 be used on hard plastic lures
I'm sorry but I don't know. I would try Alumalite Amazing Clear Cast.
What kind and diameter is the wire you use through the lure?
Can i see your setup for how you added the lead weight? That looked really slick
Google "Lee Production 4 - 20"
Do i have to have a lot of lead in this to work right? I only make a handful of lures at a time.
There are smaller versions of it. If you search lead pots you'll find what you're looking for. They're typically used for reloading ammunition.

The workbench is just your standard Craftsman Workmate and the hand tool is called a spoke shave. Thanks!
Awesome video once again. What is the name of the tool you re using at 1min 38?? Been looking for that for a while now! Thanks, keep up the good work :)
Spoke shave. Dont need an expensive one. I like Stanley from home depot. Or check out Rockler woodworking.
Like the vids!!! Where do you get your wire??
My local welding supply store.
What do you use to sign your name on your baits?
Just a simple sharpie. Usually gold or silver.
All I can say is WOW
Awesome!
Parabens Pelo seu trabalho esta isca artificial artesanal ficou muito bem feita 👏👏🐟
👍
Why have the whole video in high speed?
Because noone would watch an 8 hour video

Yeah I'm totally aware. Thanks tho!
Sick!!!
Super, Klasse 👍👍👍
lovely:)
wow 👍👍
I tried slowing down this video to TH-cam's half speed (.5), but it was still too fast for me to see clearly what you were doing. What a shame.
What do you want to see more clearly

You go so fast it's hard to keep up
All good, except the music.
If you don't like the music then mute it or just move along
Can't see what's going on, way to fast🤦
Can you go slower on putting the wire through the lure
On peu t’acheter des leurres??? Si oui moi je veux trop beau
amazing work
