      My mom has been an ER nurse most of my life, and we had a family friend who worked in cutting down trees. One day while he was working his boss who had not been feeling well that day went up the tree against the advice of his entire crew. The boss ending up having a massive heart attack, fire fighters and EMTs couldn't get the man down so our family friend had to climb the tree and bring him down. His boss later passed away in the hospital. After this our friend stopped by the house, and while talking with my mom he mentioned how guilty he felt that the man died, this was the advice she gave;
      "You did your part, the firefighters and EMTs couldnt of gone up there to get him. You did everything in your power to retrieve him and you did that. Anything that happened after was out of your hands, take pride in the fact you could at least get him back to his family."
      It's the same for these lifeguards, they do everything they can that no one else could do. Sometimes that's just making sure that someone's body can get back to their loved ones.

    As a mom of a boy with autism, this really made me feel so happy and so sad. The boys did so well handling the son in such a scary situation. Having a medical emergency while being with my son is one of my biggest fears. Seeing these boys handle this so well made me feel a little less scared knowing people can be so compassionate.

    • @BeccaFaye1314
      @BeccaFaye1314 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      @D M I don't want to discredit your personal preference as an autistic woman, but I have heard autistic people make arguments for both being preferred. I once had an autistic woman correct me the other way saying she would prefer I call her woman with autism because she wants to be referred to as a woman and person first, with the disability being the added descriptive, because she didn't want autism being used to define her in entirety. I am sure there are probably just as many people on both sides of that, and even more who don't really care either way. I do know that when I am informed of anyone with a preference either way I will always use the way they prefer when addressing them.

    • @katieabby-rose
      @katieabby-rose ปีที่แล้ว +35

      @@DM-it1qf if that’s what you prefer that’s fine but it’s not for you to tell someone how they should address their own family. I know you think you should be educating people but that’s not what this post is about and as someone with an autistic sibling I’ll always follow what my family prefers not some stranger on the internet.

    When i was a kid i went to a Beach in America with my family, i didnt speak good english and only knew The basics. I went in The water with my Big brother and i realised i couldnt get back to shore and my brother kept saying i wasnt trying hard enough. Then this Young lifeguard came and picked me up and had me ride to shore with him. Because i didnt know much english the only thing i said was a tired little “thank you”. My god watching that little girl say thank you just took me right back to that red surfboard and his kind warm smile and the taste of salty water. Bless this girl and her rescuer. And bless the guy who helped me that day.

      I can’t even imagine. My mom had to perform CPR (she’s a caregiver at a residential facility) on a woman not long ago and she’s got PTSD from it, even after nearly 30 years of caretaking and working in hospitals, so she’s seen and experienced some wild stuff. And that woman survived and is doing perfectly fine now, so I can’t even imagine how it can effect a person when there’s just nothing more you can do.

    We must have a short video on all incoming flights about the danger of swimming at our beaches. 90% of the rescues involve tourists or new arrivals who can't swim or are weak swimmers. The bottom is not flat sand. There are sandbanks that move all the time and the areas where there are few breakers are where there is a rip that can take a person out into deep water in moments. The only safe place is to swim between the red and yellow flags and even so, its still very dangerous. If you are a parent and you take your kids to the beach, but you cannot swim yourself, then find another safer place to spend the day.

      My parents nearly drowned around 30 years ago in the U.S. and I’m so thankful to the lifeguards that saved their lives. They’ve told my sisters and I to be careful and aware in the ocean our whole lives since.

      That’s a really good idea. The amount of rescues they do are mostly tourists. None of which, clearly, do not so any research upon booking the tickets to Australia, and none of which do the research and take the time to educate themselves about what can happen if you don’t follow the rules/flags, also, most I have seen don’t even have the basic swim knowledge neither.
      It’s all, let’s go to that pretty destination and go a for a swim and wonder why we end up in trouble and have lifeguards “yelling” at us to not swim there. They have no clue.
      I hope you wrote that idea down and sent it off to all airline businesses.

    These lifeguards are amazing caring. They’re always on alert and on the rescue even when someone is in trouble and doesn’t wave for help. They help with EVERYBODY and EVERYTHING on the beach, from thieves, perverts, lost children, injuries, drownings, etc. They take their jobs seriously and that’s why they take the deaths so hard, but they are true HEROS. I’m impressed with how they all work together in unison and help one another

    As many times as I have watched these, the one with the couple from Norway - I still want to scream at anyone and everyone that just passed by Singlets and did not help him get the woman on the board!!!!! [the other lifeguards don't count on the naughty list here, they were heading to Cory who needed them worse]... I still wonder about the person that was shown being on the rescue board when Singlets was trying to get the rest of her body on the board.. all he had to do was ask Singlets what he could to do to help and then do it! I am sad that her husband died, but so happy that she lived!!! The letter from the family was beautiful!!!

    All professional and volunteer lifeguards in Australia are our unsung heros. The public, especially foreigners truly have little comprehension of how dangerous our beaches, rivers and gorges can be. We need to do more to educate the public of the dangers of the water. People not only put themselves in danger but also those of Bondi Rescue and hundreds like them scattered around the waterways of Australia. If your not a strong swimmer, if you can't stay between the flags, then seriously consider using out public pools to cool off in the hot, stiffling summers. Please everyone, stay safe. Become water smart in order to survive you next water experience.

    Im a middle aged man now but when i was a boy i grew up in a fire station as my dad was a regional commander (similar to a fire chief) . We had to attend car accidents with dad sometimes as he was on emergency call 24/7 . We always took his emergency response car wherever we went in case he got called out, to things like parties ,late night shopping ect. My dad went to accidents all the time but the only time i saw him shook up was when kids were involved. He could deal easily enough with screaming adults as he said while they were screaming they were alive. He was very compassionate but also very professional and experienced at his job. He put all his concentration in to getting patients to hospital and keep everyone else safe. I saw him at home however after dealing with kids and the emotions sometimes really showed. I knew to leave him alone and just try to help around the house as it was the best i could do to help him.
    The first one brought tears because ive been around down syndrome kids and they are beautiful. Im so grateful the life guards and the locals helped by talking to him calmly and comforting him. Im kinda glad mum was screaming as she was alive. I understand her pain. I live with constant permanent chronic pain and i can deal with that. The hospitals in Australia are usually very good and they will help her.
