It always makes me so happy to hear the fabulous Bondi lifeguards tell parents that their child was very brave. I work at a major retailer and it’s nothing close to life-threatening, however we have kids that are left on their own while parent(s) shop. They are scared and feel alone and my heart always goes out to them. Whenever the parent(s) finally realize that their child is missing and we find them or they find us, I always make sure to say that you son/daughter was very smart by finding us and very brave. It annoys me to see how many of them are angry! You lost your child just be grateful nothing horrible happened to them!

@ruthrainous3068 Hey some of the great lakes have fairly decent beaches... Bradford Beach on Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, WI for example during peak summer can look just like a beach on the coast! Believe me I know it's not the same, but sometimes for just a moment on an especially hot and sunny day with the gulls cawing overhead and the sound of the surf, you can close your eyes and almost imagine that the water is briney and smell the salt in the air. As a lifelong sailor and ocean lover myself, it's really the best I can get living in southeast Wisconsin. Although unfortunately as a surfer as well there's hardly any proper waves to let me scratch that itch unless it's a really heavy surf day and the wind is *just* right, in which case it's usually a bit too chilly to enjoy it for more than a couple runs 😢.

I feel like the majority of missing children cases come down to three things -
    - First is local culture / more relaxed view, the ocean is such a huge part of life in Australia, this area especially, I think because they go so often it’s easier to drop their guard and not stay vigilant 100% of the time. Like for people who don’t go to the ocean often, when they do go it’s like a big event and you’re more likely to be hyper vigilant out of unfamiliarity, but if you go to the beach everyday and everything is always fine, it’s easy to drop your guard.
    - Second factor I think is regional unfamiliarity / blissful ignorance of the ocean. I think many of the backpackers and tourists come from landlocked locations or have never been able to go to a beach, let alone be in the ocean; many have only ever been in small pools so they don’t have any fear of the water and know nothing about how the ocean creates rips. They’re also just so happy to be on vacation that danger isn’t in the front of their mind.
    - Last obvious factor is selfishness/inattention. A lot of these parents have possibly never been on vacation or in sad cases just don’t see the importance of watching their children closely.

Either/or is fine in most cases and it's mainly so that if the person throws up it doesn't get stuck in their throat and cause them to suffocate.

She's already been searching the beach long enough to get heatstroke, would you prefer she didn't get help and just collapse out on the sand? The caption of the section literally is that she fainted from heatstroke. Also she's clearly out of her mind with worry, she did the right thing getting help and trying to keep herself calm with her other son.

These guys could use a Drone. The water is so clear with a Drone in the Air they could see if there were a shark or now. At least it would help. Maybe it would help seeing someone who had gone under the water.

life pro tip: Check both ways before crossing, and keep checking for good measure as you cross (not constantly mind you). No need to worry about looking wrong way, and not every driver is a good driver or considerate (One time I almost got hit even though I would have had plenty of time to get across if the guy would have slowed down. Happened to look his direction when I got to the centre line.. and he had the audacity to honk at me. [I was jaywalking, but I literally had no choice because there were no traffic lights or pedestrian crossings at that time. Not sure why one didn't get implemented til years later.. it's a pretty busy intersection with a bunch of schools in the area])
