It's all good. When I looked and saw you already strapped in I was hoping they would just pop your seat and let you shove my bar down. But after they didn't, I just decided I had taken enough of your time and let you ride since you didn't have any issues. Don't feel bad for me! I knew there was very little shot that I would fit on the ride when I got in the queue.
I'm glad you got a kick out of that. I prefer to call without riding it an "early exit" it is a bummer, but I don't like the idea of it being shameful. Just people of different shapes and sizes that fall outside of the average.
Yeah it is a minor subconscious and self depricatingly humorous thing to call it a walk of shame. It can really ruin a person's day to have a turn of phrase cause them to beat themselves up emotionally. It is easier to get on with your day if a bad experience isn't subconsciously renforced with a negative phrase after the fact.
I went to Universal about two weeks ago and I too have trouble with ride seats. My big problem is the thighs and I was unable to fit on the bike side but juuuust made it on the sidecar and could ride. I believe that’s because it allows your legs to come up more. I relate to your problem with the feet placement, with me having a size 15. Great video! You’re doing people like us a great service!
Just found your channel. Really appreciate you doing these videos. I accepted long ago that my body type is not average and there’s just a few things I won’t be able to do. We still enjoy Universal and I just focus on enjoying the things I can ride.
I got denied the ride back in January and came back on Veterans Day weekend and fit perfectly all because of your advice wearing lesser clothes and shoes with larger soles made it difficult for me the last time because it was 50 degrees at the theme park the whole day but thanks to you I had chance to experience the ride. “I’m 6’7 250lb and wear size 13 shoe”
That sucks Dave that you couldn't do it. You'd think after the complaints they've gotten from the Forbidden Journey from Big and Tall riders that they would cater those riders to this one. Such a shame.
I'm not surprised, or even upset with the park because I was not able to fit. At my size it's a reality that I'm outside of the average size that is cost effective for rides to be built at. If half the people trying to ride were turned away because they were to large, I would say there is a huge problem with the ride. The vast majority of the people who try can ride these rides. I make these videos to help larger people know what to expect when they get to the end of the queue.
I am 5'6" and 256 lbs, Ive lost 112 lbs so this was my first try in the test seat and get on the ride. I got a green light in the test seat and still had room on the actual bike seat. I did not test the sidecar, but next time will try the tester seat for the side car. This ride was SICK ! But I feel like if I was about 20-30 lbs heavier in the stomach I can see where it would be difficult.
I'm 6 foot, 307 lbs, and I just barely fit on Hagrid's on the motorbike side. However, I was unable to fit any of the other Harry Potter rides. I was also barely able to fit on the Velocicoaster.
It's a shame that Universal rides are so restrictive. I know being bigger is a personal problem (in my case) and I'm working on it, but like you even if I lose weight I'd still be a big bodied guy and I think there are some rides there that will always just be a no go for me. Whereas at Disney, there's not a single ride I can't ride.
Were you one of the folks that talked to me? I filmed for a while in the exit queue, and did the intro right in front of the entrance after they blocked it off for the day.
I just returned from Universal and this is one of the few that I could not ride. I am 5'10" and right at 300 lbs. I lift, so while I carry excess weight in my stomach, I also have mass in my shoulders and thighs. My thighs were the problem on this one. Similar to you, I do not believe losing weight would help me because my stomach wasn't blocking the arm. So even with shorter legs, if you have a lot of muscle in your thighs, you are not riding.
This was the only ride at Universal or Disney that I could not ride. I suspected that I might not be able to so I was not too disappointed. An attendant assisted me when I tried out the tester seats and I could not fit on either the sidecar or motorbike seat. This issue for me was the leg restraint system that is similar to that of the Gringots ride but I am able to fit in the Gringots ride. For reference, I am 5’-11”, 280 lbs, and I carry the majority of my weight in my legs and have a moderate stomach and smaller upper body.
Hi Dave, when you say your thigh measurement is 49inches at the thickest part, is that one thigh or the total circumference of both? Keep up the great videos
And this is why universal will not get another dime of my vacation money. We have been to Disneyworld and Disneyland 6 times and I have never not been able to ride anything, even FOP. Spent 1 very expensive day at Universal and could not fit on many rides They should give a discounted non rider ticket there. 6’4” 320.
I was 6-2 and 330 and got on Jurassic park river King Kong jimmy fallen shrek Spider-Man one of the smaller coasters. Granted my legs are small for an over weight person
Not a problem, I put my measurements out there all the time. My waist size as of this recording was 54in. The real pinch point for me is my thighs though, the bar doesn't press into my stomach at all. My thigh measurement around the thickest part of my thighs was 49 inches. I've lost a lot of weight in the last month, and my thigh measurement is down to 47 inches, and I still don't get a green light on the test seat though.
Hi dave, could you do a video on the seaworld rides? And possibly busch gardens. I hear that tigris and falcons fury are large person friendly. May be wrong though 🤣
Thanks much for this informative video on the ride and test seats. I am female, 5‘8 and my waist is 38inches but my hips are 50‘ and thighs 28‘. Do you think I can fit?
The thighs are definitely the pinch point on this one. I would be surprised if you couldn't ride it, but people carry their weight in different ways. Personally my thighs are 49 inches around at the pinch point and I can ALMOST ride the motorbike seat. I can't guarantee anything, but my gut tells me you should at least fit on one of the two seats.
Thank you so much :) Yes, that‘s what is mostly the issue on the rides, hips and thighs... People carry their weight differently like you said, and hips and thighs are my biggest parts. I really hope I can fit... And thanks again for your thoughts on this, I really appreciate it :)
Wish I had seen this video. I had to do the walk of shame for both hagrids and gringots. Kind of ruined the day for me. Oh well maybe after I lose some weight I can try again.
Wow.. my family and I literally planning to go there summer 2022. And we are all over 6 feet 😭😭 and we are plus size mainly because of our height. I am so glad i did my research and saw this video before i went ahead and purchase plane & park ticket, and hotel reservations.. 😪 still a bummer tho.
Disney is very tall/big person friendly. Most of the universal rides are ok, but the big roller coaster attractions are very constricting. There is still a lot to do, but if you are all very large Disney would be a better bet.
I'll be doing an updated size video really soon, because I've got a weight loss challenge series that I want to do. Measurements will be a major part of it. My waist size is 54 inches. But if you look in the video the lap bar never pressed against my belly. I could have sucked in my gut quite a bit. My issue was the lap bar hitting the tops of my thighs. So my sitting heel to top of thigh height is the important one on this ride. While seated, measuring from the floor to the top of my thigh with my knee at a 90 degree bend, that distance is about 26 inches. Both seats gave me trouble mainly because of that measurement.
Thank you for all that info! I am the same waist size. But I am shorter than you. I am about 5’9”. Does this play a factor in that area of which you had the most trouble with your legs/thighs? What do you think?
@@joshiemonster0890 The lap bar wasn't pressing against my stomach. It was the thickness of my thighs that caused my issue. I can't say 100% you will fit, but if I had to guess, I think you will be able to ride in the motorbike side if you lift yourself out of the seat a bit or wiggle around some in that seat. Not as confident in the sidecar though.
My thighs are pretty thick from muscle because I'm so heavy. I don't carry a lot of fat in the pinch area for Hagrid's. But on other rides I can move my foot to adjust the height of my thigh. Not on hagrid's. Feet barely fit in the ride and I can't rotate my leg to get the thinner side of my thigh to be the pinch point.
Hi, how are you? I'm from Brazil and I see your videos for a while, I try to understand a little of your videos but my english is not so good yet haha, can you help me? I am 5'5 tall and 286 lbs, my size is 18/20 pants. Do you think I'll have a hard time riding Universal's toys? Disney's are bigger from what I've seen in the videos, but I've seen many reports about universal ones being smaller, unfortunately. I try to understand this in your videos and keep translating some comments but I'm not sure yet, I hope it helps me. Thank you!
I was wondering when someone would ask me to do the Star Flyer. I am pretty sure I will wet myself and cry the entire time. Not sure that will be helpful to anyone, but I'm sure it would make great entertainment. :D
He can compare himself to my body type with a video I made showing my measurements. It's difficult to nail every important measurement down for comparison for roller coasters but I tried to cover all the big ones. I will be making an updated version of this soon, because I've gained some weight since I recorded this. th-cam.com/video/OJdPMQjrC5k/w-d-xo.html
Okay. I really hope one day I will be able to ride this. This is the only ride at Universal I have issues with. I fit on everything else just fine. I am 5’00 feet tall. I weigh around 230 pounds. I have short legs and thick thighs. I believe the issue is my thighs with this ride. I have seen people weigh more than me be able to ride this. I can not get the bar to lock in either seat. I don’t get the green light on the tester seats. I find it weird. It says for people that have more than a 40 size waist, may have issues with this ride. I am not even a 40. It says the same thing about the other Harry Potter attractions. I fit in Forbidden Journey and Gringotts just fine. I guess I just have to loose weight in my thighs for Hagrids.
If I was a universal exec. I'd make it a requirement for all rides to have special seats to accommodate anyone who has a max height of 7ft 2in and has a max weight of 450lbs/waist length of 49 inches.
I can understand why they don't. Mainly the big and tall crowd is smaller than the parents with small children crowd. The design of the seats and restraints have to be able to work with really large people and really small people, and since there are a lot more kids than big and tall guys they prioritize that group. While I agree that I would like to just be able to fit on these rides, I would rather not if it meant young kids have to be another 3 inches taller to ride. That kinda thing can ruin a lot more vacations.
The only thing that kinda bums me out is there isn't an alternative way to see several of the set pieces. There are no cool animatronics in the queue, all of them are on the ride itself.
