It's fantastic how many artists and writers are connected globally compared to just being limited to in-person meetings. The artist and comic book artist community is incredibly diverse, which allows us to learn from each other's perspectives around the world and share our creative energy. So rad!
From what I've understood, since the beginning of their collaboration Steven Spielberg always sent John Williams a rough cut of whatever film he was working on that Williams would then score, and then the rough cut is re-edited to match the music (as opposed to forcing the composer to work within the confines of strictly edited film, having to fit music with the length of a shot and that sort of thing). I wouldn't assume they invented that - there must be collaborators who did that before - or that they are the only people to do it, but it wouldn't surprise me if that was the key to John Williams's music harmonizing with moving image so beautifully. I've long thought their collaboration was akin to the Marvel Method; only in their case the writing was re-writing the visual "text" to fit with the art (=music) I may remember incorrectly, but if true, it shows the same approach works outside the comics media as well!
Thank you for the video! This is actually such a relief bc I'd like to make my own comic, the plot is very detailed in my head but I don't think that writing is my forte and I tend to visualize and then add dialogue and that's been such a stumbling block for me so far, but knowing there's such a method is so refreshing. I'm still on the fence about it but as a self-taught artist and only then writer I feel like I'd need another lifetime to complete the script. So, if you say that the detailed script is more of a writer and artist thing to give the latter as much info as possible, maybe I could stick to the Marvel method...

I love your artist appraisals and your discussions of single pages too. This should have way more views than it does. On a side note about collaboration, I discovered last year that Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott only met a couple of times and the first time was in the 70s, long after their work together had come to define them. I know it shouldn't have bothered me but I was kind of disappointed to hear it.

It seems to me that was very unlikely back then, for creators to collaborate for so long without actually meeting. The art definitely didn't suffer though. In many ways it seemed as though they were making that stuff side by side.
Would you say that Zoom and other video chat softwares (especially with the screen sharing capability) make the whole collaboration over a distance easier?
It definitely can help and is probably better than just email. Still doesn't have that same effect that in person brainstorming and creating has. But in this day and age, I'd say it's a good alternative if used correctly.
This is a good video. I do a version of the Marvel Method but it was mostly just me. I do want to improve on my writing so I might start writing more scripted outlines. I've started to work with another creative for a recent project,that we both designed characters for. I'm currently doing a series of mini comics, about 3,maybe 4 issues the first 2 are 8 pages including cover. The 3rd issue is looking like it'll be 16 pages. It started with a very loose version of the Marvel method but for issue 3 we're refining it more. It's a 2 person team and we're both artists but my collab partner is much better at writing but we both give input on the story. For the 3rd issue , we switched up a few things. I did some rough thumbs that I was going to draw out but I was going through some mental health problems and she helped me out by doing loose pencils in a new layout. I then just inked and added dialogue I already had. She did 5 more pages of loose pencils and 3 of those pages was me just describing what i wanted in the scene. It was pretty fun because she drew them as i was telling her what I wanted, she shared her screen so i watched her draw without having to be there in person. She lives in Washington, I'm in Texas. I posted the loose pencils on instagram under TuracoComics, and I posted parts of 4 completed pages I have inked and dialogued so far. After I finish up the mini comic series, we're revamping it for a Graphic Novel. She's doing a script outline based on notes we've given each other,also using the mini comics as a rough guide and improving on that storyline. I'll be doing most if not all of the art but also using her redesigns. For now that's how we're using the Marvel Method.

Give it a try! I think the Marvel Method definitely benefits those who think more visually.

In method Marvel, the artist himself had an involvement in the plot.
How long did "the Marvel Method" last? What was the specific year that was left behind?
I feel that the Mavel Method is best for comics because they rely so much on the artwork to move the plot. And I enjoy that much more.

As a writer I’d be a bit more concise in videos like this. A healthy edit would shave 2-3 minutes and prove more engaging and effective imho.
Not that deep bro
