Damn right. It's just crazy how they put that content to a children's song.

Takashi Yanase, the author of anpanman and the lyricist for this song, wrote this in memory of his brother which he lost during world war 2. He wanted to create brave characters that would give children hope and dreams. Many children during the war, including Yanase himself, belonged to a generation that often went hungry due to the shortage of food. Offering food to another person in those days could sometimes mean the difference between life and death. Yanase believed that food isn't just goodness but also life itself which is why the heroes of his story are based off of food. They represent life and also the power to share life with others.
that explains a lot about Anpanman, he gives a bit of himself by feeding others. I really liked this character, and is one the most successful kodomo (child) program ever. Every kid knew Anpanman and even adults grew fond of this character.

Six years ago, I attempted suicide and ended up three months in hospital, with a few permanent serious injuries. This song un ironically helped me so much in those times. Usually songs about suicide and persevering have a sad sound, making you feel pity for the person or yourself. This instead made me happy that I was still here, and pushed me, convincing me i had chances and that I could be happy, even though my hopes my bleak at the time. Yes, the scar in my heart still hurts, but I realized how great it is to live.
BAKIAAAH!! 😂😂
Im glad you safe
Your life mean
Keep going :)
Yeah, we're all gonna die in the end and life's meaningless. What drives me is that, im gonna die in probably less than 50 years or i might not even wake up tomorrow so why not just keep on living and enjoy life because one day, it'll be over anyways. Im also interested in some future discoveries and inventions.
For those of you wondering why the lyrics are very "different"
The creator of this animation, Yanase Takashi, wrote this song while thinking about his younger brother who was stationed in the Kamikaze division in WWII.
Really? I was wondering what was up with this song, because if the lyrics are translate even remotely correct, it has a dark undercurrent for a sweet children's tune.
There's a line, "That's why you fly to wherever you're needed" in the song.
I must say its pretty fucked up if you know the backstory
@@lordiust962 Dude may be that's there because anpanman can fly?
Gotdamn
@@hemanthchalla4833 but if this backstory is correct, it's referencing how the kamikaze division in WW2 flew their planes directly into the Allied Forces, no matter if it cost them their life. Which it usually did.
The Japanese believed that dying in battle was the greatest honour possible. So him having to fly into the allies in a kamikaze attack is supposed to be like some kind of divine destiny. "That's why you have to fly wherever you are needed."
So yeah, it is kinda messed up.
oh wow you'd never see lyrics like this for any other children's cartoon that's for sure.

Maybe not for TV, but there are a lot of English-language kids songs with pretty dark lyrics.
-Ring Around the Rosie has been connected to bubonic plague
-It's Raining It's Pouring is about an old man who hits his head and dies
-My Darling Clementine is about a miner's daughter who drowns to death
-Waltzing Matilda is about a vagrant who commits suicide by drowning to avoid getting arrested by police for stealing.
I realized how great it is to live...
...even if the scar in my heart hurts.
What was I born for?
What will I do in my life?
I don't like not being able to answer these questions.
By living in the present our heart burns.
That's why you go with a smile on your face.
I realized how great it is to live, even if the scar in my heart hurts.
An, an, Ampanman, how brave you are.
Go! You can protect everyone's dream.
What is your happiness?
What do you do for enjoyment?
I don't want to end my life without knowing.
Don't forget your dream.
Don't cry your tears.
That's why you fly to wherever you are needed.
Don't be afraid, you can stand up for everyone.
Love and courage is always with you.
Ah, ah, Ampanman, how brave you are.
Go! You can protect everyone's dream.
Time passes by so quickly.

I came here because of the video of the dude on a suit overqualified for his job
Nyangostar he is.
Dude that statement almost seems parallel to Saitama or that drummer dressed up as Nyangostar lol.
Yas sister 👌🏼
Came for the drum solo, stayed for the existential, provoking undertones.
Now I understand why Nyangostar had to do the crazy drum, he had to match with the crazy lyrics.
And by crazy I mean amazing.
When my brother was first studying Japanese in college, he brought my sister and I pop- up books of anpanman from a trip there. Loved 'em, forgot about 'em. I randomly find the drum thing and hear the singer say "An! An! Anpanman! " and the memories came back. I had to know more!

The younger brother of Anpanman's author died in kamikaze attack for country.
And the author served in World War II and found the importance of food in hunger.
While almost all values changed due to Japan's defeat, he felt that only love and devotion are absolutely unchanging justice.
So Anpanman gives the bread that makes up his face to the hungry.
The author said.
"The true hero would help the hungry child before fighting. I wanted to make such a hero."
Why would anybody do kamikaze?
Why would anybody serve in a World War?

This sounds incomplete without a death metal drummer in a cat suit.
So this is the song that Nyango Star the drummer shreds to.
This song should be the anthem of my country. It is too addictive.
And love the fact how the lyrics centered on how kind & brave is Anpanman for protecting everyone's dreams and smiles by sacrifying his needs although him his self, suffered with a scar at heart which still hurt while still doesn't have a clue what to achieve in life and future.. :'p

I was really crying on how i finally able to find the actual song
I woke up with heavy anxiety on my chest and this cheered me up :)
I play this very quietly on my phone at work, a few of my coworkers hear it and are fascinated by it. I had a coworker who was born and raised in Japan, he smiled at me when hearing it and said “I’m glad people in the west can appreciate these little bits of our popular culture.”
If you wonder what's dark story behind this song, hereby i got: "After training, he went off to the Sino-Japanese War. In addition to the creation and decryption of code, the unit was also involved in pacification efforts, producing propagandistic picture-story shows for the local Chinese. Yanase was based in an area that didn’t see combat and he never fired a gun at the enemy. However, his younger brother was killed in the Pacific theatre. Towards the end of the war when Japanese logistics were stretched to breaking point, his unit was chronically short of food and Yanase dreamed obsessively of eating anpan"
The lyrics were written by the author thinking about how his younger brother, who died in the war, decided to commit a kamikaze attack, so there is a sense of melancholy.
been playing this song nonstop on taiko no tatsujin and had to look up where it's from bc it was so cute and pure sounding and now i can't stop crying lol
