    I actually got a bit emotional watching this. Phantom’s owner did so well, and they look lovely together. He seemed calm, and also seemed to be listening to and responding to her well. Cheers to you both!

    I declare today: Owner’s first ride day. 😂
    We have a rescued mare. We only know that she got abused and was completely petrified on many levels. She was in panic when I got the first time on her.
    Many months of ground work and weeks of me just standing next to her on the mounting block, finally she was relaxed that I was able to get on her and walks off and stops.
    TODAY
    The owner mounted the first time (the owner also did a huge amount of ground work with her).
    The horse was completely relaxed.
    Yeah!
    It is such a huge step forward if the first ride for the owner goes well and gives them a good starting point to continue the training.

    I have a soft spot for this horse. He's come so far so fast. He's such a good boy. I feel kind of sad to see this one go home. I've loved watching him. I know that Phantom must have loved being there on your beautiful place and having you and your team work with him because he's turned into such a good horse so fast. I hope that he has a wonderful life and I hope that we get to see him again sometime.

    Always thrilling to get that first ride and the owner seems to be a good match. Phantom was really well behaved and quiet. I am sure you were thrilled it went so well too.

    You can get an omni mic with low sensitivity in that rumble, low end range. That would ignore most of the noise. You could also baffle it on the side where the noise comes from and position it carefully while listening to the output to exclude the Fan and not the floor of the arena. Baffle it from the top as well or you'll get nothing but Rain noise when it's raining. Using any kind of directional pattern will exclude a lot of the arena, but maybe a Figure 8 mic or a sub-cardioid could work as well, but each will have space that's outside the pattern.

      I don't want to mic up a person, I want to mic up an area. I just don't know enough about mics to know which one to get.

    nice work! He's turning into a lovely horse! On another note, check out the DJI Mic 2 for your audio. It's super easy to use, and has amazing quality. It's made for people who "vlog". We have it and love it. The noise cancelling will help take out a lot of the distracting noises like your exhaust fan. I really enjoy watching your training videos. Thanks for taking the time to make them.

    0:45 For this camera position and mike setup, use a shotgun mike external to your camera with a thick, at least 2", foam backup pad and a foam surround (at least 1" thick foam, curved into 12" ID tube). You can use either acoustic foam or upholstery foam. The front end of the mike should extend only a little beyond the front of the foam tube. Point the mike approximately at the center of the arena floor. Experiment with fine positioning of the mike and foam tube for best sound quality. The foam backing pad is important to suppress the back lobe of a shotgun mike which will otherwise pick up the fan noise and other undesirable ambience.
    If you want to hang a mike from the center of the roof, do not use an omnidirectional pattern. Instead, use a cardioid directional pattern or a supercardioid with a foam backing pad.

    Tim, I can see that you’re a patient, experienced trainer. But, why oh why do you and your owners/helpers not wear helmets? As a neurosurgeon once told me: “you can fix most broken bones but you can’t fix the brain.”

    • @ltningstrike
      @ltningstrike 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Helmets are at the owner/riders discretion. He doesn't require them and leave the choice to the owner of the horse.

    • @eiloen
      @eiloen 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Discretion, choice...what about the families who will be obligated to care for the person who chose not to wear a helmet in the event they suffer a catastrophic non fatal injury? It's not just the life of the person who didn't want to wear a helmet, it's the future of everyone around them.

    He’s doing well with his owner. What a difference from day one. I would love for the owner to continue to take riding and training lessons from you for a few months before she goes home with him. I don’t know her experiences with him or riding, but making sure she can handle the leadership role consistently is so important. Great job!

    Owner's leg and seat show she's a beginner. Her hands and contact are iffy at best. Dismounting was not well done! This lovely, green horse is not suitable for her skills AT THIS TIME. Phantom will be back!

  • @Sandra-cm1du

    If you cant afford the expense of proper training for a green horse, so its a safe horse. You probably should not own a green horse. You cant rush training.

    Too much horse for this owner. Phantom needs an experienced rider and even then, Arabs are on a whole nother level. She needs to sell him to someone who's not afraid and is experienced!!

      It's an attic fan that keeps the barn cool. It's automatic and he can't cut it off. Using the down volume on your phone or computer will help as will muting the sound if it's offensive.

    Can you not turn the sound off and do a voice over ? I know it takes a little more time and effort but may be worth the time so people can hear what’s going on . Just a suggestion not to be mean . I love watching your videos but would like to be able to hear you .
