  • There are so many mezcal brands out there, and its hard to know which ones are actually worth your time and money to get started into this amazing spirit. In this Video I will show you the 3 best affordable mezcal brands for you should be drinking. These are great mezcal for beginners.
    Mezcal is one of the most complex spirits out there and it can be very hard to know which ones are worth spending time and money on. Mezcal is becoming incredibly popular and there are tons of brands popping up left right and center.
    The Three brands I cover in this video are all incredible brands that are all well worth your money. Del Maguey mezcal has been a mainstay in the U.S Bar scene since it broke into the market in 2010, and is one of the most popular mezcals out there. Derrumbes is an awesome brand making artesenal Mezcals from the different states in mexico. Rey Campero is an astounding (and personally my favorite) mezcal brand out there today and is made in a small village in Mexico!
    These are the three best mezcal brands 2022.

    I get so much new information especially on tequilas and mezcals from your channel, thank you! I have to say that I'm a little hesitant to get a bottle of mezcal as I might not like the smoky aspect of it...

      Thank you my friend! Mezcal is a bit of an acquired taste, I'd recommend trying it at a bar or restaurant and talking about it with someone who enjoys it before commiting to a bottle.

    I LOVE Mezcal. But whiskey definitely takes the complexity award for spirits I think. Just look at how small Scotland is and there are more varieties of scotch than there is bourbon for example. I love whiskey and mezcal both!

    Great video! How smoky is the Rey Campanero? Vida was my intro to Mezcal and It was way too smoky for me. I tried San Bortolo and thought that was excellent. Where does RC fall?

    • @Lui_Fern

      Rey Campero is def not as smokey as Vida. It had this great minerality and almost saltiness to it. Certainly worth a try

    The SLP Derrumbes goes for about 50US even at discount places like Old Town Tequila. The other expressions go for double that.

    Great video, Lui! I've recently been looking to get more into mezcal. I've tried the Vida and Derrumbes (I prefer the Vida, but both are excellent) and I'll be sure to be on the lookout for Rey Campero on my next tequila/mezcal run. My all-time favorite mezcal is La Luna's Cupreata. Have you tried it? I'd love to know your thoughts on it, man. Your insights are always great. (Also, I have you to blame for getting me hooked on Novo Fogo's Tanager cachaça! It's incredible!)

    • @Lui_Fern
      @Lui_Fern  ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you gonna be sipping it or making cocktails? If you plan on strictly making cocktails go for the vida, if you wanna drink it straight and maybe make cocktails the Rey Campero.

    • @tobibatiste7859
      @tobibatiste7859 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Lui_Fern Thanks for the advice, I'll probably do a mixture of sipping and mixing. So I'll probably go with the Rey Campero. Loving the channel btw.

    I love Lagavulin, I love all smokey Scotch. What would be the Mezcal equivalent to Islay Scotch? I've only tried two different Mezcals and both tasted like lawnmower gasoline grass. Don't get me wrong, I liked the fact they were different. However, I can see I can use Mezcal as a "Budget" option to the kind of Scotch I drink. What Mezcals would you recommend Islay Scotch drinkers try?

    • @LyK0sa
      @LyK0sa 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've only tried a handful of mezcals, all espadin varieties, but I've not found anything directly comparable to islay malts. DM Vida is the 'smokiest' I've tried, but specifically burning rubber, not peat or wood smoke. Not pleasant imo, very one note, the flavours did open up a little over time as the bottle oxidised, but right off the bat it tasted like a burning car tyre.
      To be clear, I do enjoy heavily peated scotch, but vida just doesn't do it for me.

    I recently had a mixed drink with Mezcal and the smoky flavor was so amazing. What other brands give that strong flavor or are they all like that?

    • @Lui_Fern
      @Lui_Fern  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most mezcal will be a bit smokey but every region that produces mezcal produces it slightly different. But the brands in this video are my three favorites to use in cocktails

  • @miksologia

    I received my first mezcal ever yesterday. It's the Vida. I tried it by itself and hated it. I'm hoping it'll be better in cocktails. The smokyness almost made me spit it out 😂

    My friend who is from Dorango sharded a bottle of Mezcal he got in Dorango. It was so good, and he told me it is a very small place and only sold locally. He told me I should try 400 Conejos Espadin - Cuishe as it is close to the one made in Dorango. Have you tried it and if so what are your feelings about it. I went to the store and got a bottle and will try it tonight.

    • @Lui_Fern
      @Lui_Fern  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh nice! Do I have tried 400 Conejos but don't love it. I find it is lacking in flavor to a degree. Much better mezcales out there for the same price if not cheaper

    Hi Lui! Would you recommend el silencio (80$ here in Canada) over vida (65$), especially if I want to focus on cocktails? Thanks for any insight :)

    • @luismartinez-rd2mt
      @luismartinez-rd2mt ปีที่แล้ว

      I have had el silencio a couple of times here and it has a real Smokey flavor similar to la vida. I don’t know if the price difference for you justifies going with el silencio. Here in CA I’m able to pick up a bottle of el silencio for about $30 at multiple retailers but la vida is usually a few dollars more expensive. I don’t think you’ll be missing out on either but if you’re able to get el silencio for a better deal you should pick it up and try it out

      I've only tried mezcal once but I wanna get my own bottle and experiment with it myself

    • @Lui_Fern
      @Lui_Fern  ปีที่แล้ว

      So for cocktails i find Vida is a great choice because it's a bit smokier so it doesn't get lost in the mix of other ingredients. And for the difference in price, the vida is probably your best bet. Now if you plan on sipping it straight than that's a different story
