Classic! I recently went to San Louis Obispo, Ca. to visit my sister. I stopped at the local BevMo to pick up a bottle. The "Lock case had 818, Casa Amigos, Patron, Don Julio, etc.. But the kept the El Tesoro, Lalo, and El Tequileno (Anejo) was on the shelf... I laughed and grabbed the latter and went to checkout.

Nice job Lui. Way to not hold any punches. Hope you've recovered from that 818 trauma. The reason I believe a lot of celebrity tequila has been doing so well is because people love to name drop and feel cool telling friends and family they bought it without actually caring if it's a well made tequila. Educating yourself on what goes into making a good tequila will make u think twice before you actually buy a celebrity tequila in the first place. 🙂

Cabo Wabo WAS his. Sold in 2007. Cabo Wabo is now made at a different NOM, and is not that great. Santos is being made at the original NOM the original Cabo Wabo was when it belonged to Sammy Hagar.

9:30 If I recall correctly, small batch usually refers that a "small" amount of barrels are blended together, and bottled as one batch. At least that's how it works in the whiskey world since small batch whiskey is a big thing. However, the term is also meaningless because "small" can mean anything and there's no regulation or standard to what "small" is equal to. A small batch for a mom and pop distillery can be pretty small, but "small" batch from a warehouse that stores millions of barrels is totally different.

It's not surprising that Hagar's tequila would actually be decent. He was the first celebrity to have his own tequila branding, beating Clooney to the punch by over two decades when he founded Cabo Wabo in 1990.

I agree with you on the Santo. Should give the Mezquilla a try. Would love to hear what you have to say about that. (amazing in a good margarita) Remember that Sammy Hagar started Cabo Wabo tequila back around 2000. First tried in Mexico at his club and really loved it then. After he sold it there seemed to be a Don Julio effect on it if you know what I mean. To this day the best bottle I have ever had was a Cabo Wabo bottle on my 36th bday ( I am 55 now ). Of course I am older and wiser now and thanks to you have discovered some really amazing tequilas. Thank you

It's interesting that you did call a couple of these celeb tequilas "Decent". I have never tasted them (nor will I).
I guess Sammy has his Cabo Wabo, so perhaps he's been a promoter, and ended up doing a decent job. I am still sticking to Cimarron and Altos Olmeca (for cocktails), and Other good stuff for sipping (such as G4, Fortaleza, Terralta, Volans or Tequila Ocho).

But I have had a bottle of their blanco and was pleasantly surprised that I liked it as much as I did. There are definitely better blancos out there, but I thought it was solidly decent. I swear i been working there for almost 3 months and have yet to see someone get The Jenners 818 bottle as I am a cashier. People who REALIZE they don't have enough money settle on the taramana once I tell them the don julio/casamigos price

There is nothing wrong with sourcing bourbon, and there are plenty of good to great bourbons sourced from MGP. The only issue with sourcing is with companies who aren't transparent, not the sourcing itself.

Wow talk about ignorant! MGP is additive free and makes GREAT Whiskey. It’s helped a lot of small distilleries grow like Sagamore, to now produce their own Whiskey, after blending MGP in the beginning. Penelope is another GREAT MGP Whiskey. 🙄

I genuinely do not believe that most celebrity tequilas are worth buying cuz even the ones that are good.
