    Great tips Steve. I often find myself in the back of the boat with my son, the boat owner. I tell him all the time he’s jammin’ me into the cover. Can’t wait until Saturday to try these tips. I really like dragging a Ned rig.

      It is sure tough to fish from the back at times. Good luck this weekend!

    I'm fishing My first co angler tournament in a couple weeks, just trying to soak up all the last minute knowledge I can before then. Thanks!! 🤙🏼🍋

      Good luck! One of the biggest benefits a co-angler has is not worrying about where to go and when to pull the trolling motor and move across the lake. You can focus on what is right in front of you and fish relaxed, which is often the key to getting bites. You are going to do great!

    Again... great video! I actually prefer fishing from the back of my buddies bass boat. As he is most often fixated on fishing shallow, I find that I am freed up to use many more techniques and to his dismay, I usually catch 2 to 3 times more fish than him simply by having to think outside the box.

      It is so effective. When I was tournament fishing on a regular basis, I was often also in dismay. I learned so much from watching anglers think of other ways to fish. They caught bigger fish often too because they were fishing a little deeper.

      What are some of your “go to”techniques? I consistently struggle from the back ….

      @@MrDeputy83 I’d say my #1 technique, no matter what time of year ( works amazing in late fall, through out winter and early spring ) is lightly jigging a blade bait off the bottom in 10-30’+. Specifically, a Damiki Vault in copper/gold or silver. Mostly copper/gold, mostly 1/2-3/4oz.As the guy in the front of the boat is pounding the shoreline and your stuck out in deeper water, this technique is surprisingly effective! Long cast, hit bottom, slowly raise your rod tip, feel the vibration… stop, back to bottom and repeat. #2, simply drag a Texas or Carolina rig. #3, slowly jig a MegaBass Dark Sleeper in deeper water. Always a jerkbait! Lastly, if you have the right rod and reel for it, slow roll a BIG 3-6-8oz swim-bait on top through the water column or on bottom. Good luck !!!

    Steve I am. New subscriber as of today. Love the videos I’ve seen so far as they apply to many of the situations I’m presented with. I’ve asked several pros on TH-cam without an answer yet this question-Do I need to be an accomplished angler before signing up as a co-angler in a BASS Open event? I see it as an unbelievable learning opportunity but I don’t want to be a nuisance or make a fool of myself. Thanks for the videos and I’m looking forward to your response. Ched

      I would definitely sign up. It is an amazing way to learn and get better because you are forced to fish in all conditions and situations. There are a few courtesy guidelines to follow: keep your tackle to one decent sized bag, offer some gas money for the day, etc. Also, try to read the personality of the angler on the front deck. Some will be very quiet and not talk much while others love to have conversation and share. If you are allowed to net fish don't stab at them, let the angler tell you when to put the net in the water and then hold it there. They will bring the fish to it. I haven't fished an Open event in a few years. When I did, there wasn't a rule about co-anglers casting towards the front, or past the console, but some circuits require co-anglers to cast from the consoles back. You'll have to check the current rules for that one. One topic that I've seen different anglers handle in a variety of ways is what happens when a co-anglers lure gets stuck. I always told me co-anglers I was happy to retrieve their lure. I know that some co-anglers get very nervous about getting stuck. I think you will really enjoy it and learn all sorts of new things.

    I have a question so the very first tip was to drag the bait behind how much line or slack do u give the bait

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. Just enough to maintain bottom contact.

      @@SteveRogersOutdoors I’m sorry can u word that different like how far should I let the bait troll back how many feet behind the boat

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors
      @SteveRogersOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nolanreiserhoopz I would keep peeling line until it hits bottom. Depending on the depth the boat it is it could vary quite a bit. It will be a lot of line I’m sure. Especially if the angler in front is moving right along with the trolling motor.
