One of the greatest alien designs ever created, I remember as a kid seeing it take the mask off and being completely blown away by how creepy and life-like it looked.
Thats because an asian guy designed it
Just the unmasked predator is creepy....the mask is super cool
Predator is hands down the coolest alien, coolest villain that's ever been on film.
RIP WINSTON AND GIGER. Both created badass and sci-fi iconic monsters in the history of cinema.
Yup stan winston and h.r. giger created the most lifelike and rememberable iconic alien villains of the 70's and 80's in alien aka xenomorph and predator aka yautja alien.
R.I.P. Stan & Kevin, we will never forget your amazing work!

Stan Winston was a true special effects and creature design master ! He will never be forgotten for his work . I just love the Predator design and the movie :)
Saw this movie when it first came out and it was absolutely amazing. The Predator was one of the scariest alien type enemies I had ever seen. The combination of monster, tech, and intelligence was so intimidating. Such a great creation.
Predator is a neo-classical creature character. My generations Wolfman, Frankenstein, or Creature from the Black Lagoon. Eternal. Stan and company in the 80s and 90s were a category 5 hurricane of iconic character creation. Terminator, The Alien Queen, The Predator, Pumpkinhead, all the Dinosaurs from Jurassic Park. Completely blown away by his and his team's work. Timeless and unforgettable.
Legends. Now Winston and Giger have quite lovely long talks.... Hail to those who marked my childhood.
Rest in Peace, Stan and KPH. May your legacy live on forever.

One thing that amazes me about Stan's characters, is that they would be fully viable biological organisms if they really existed.

They even have distinctive characteristic of certain biological class animals. For example the predator probably belongs to the Arachnida class. The alien probably belongs to Odonata class. :-)
ARIES9327 I would go more a long the lines with, Hymenoptera. For the Xenomorphs.

I think it is great that people can now see how their favourite movie characters were created and the work involved in doing so.
Its a lost art wth todays heavy reliance on CGI and digital effects and Stan Winston did a great job on the films he worked on.

The guy who acted the Predator is responsible for the awesome portrayal of the character.
He moved in a way that totally sold the role...compare pred1&2 to any AVP or predators and you see those preds lack quality actors.

When you think of great men like Stan who brought us these iconic creatures to life never again will there ever anyone like him or the actors who portrayed them any one else from here will be people who will copy off the original works. The 80s & 90s were indeed the best years when future generations look back they too will agree.
DIM28073 while I agree that Stan was an icon who was part of a groundbreaking movement in practical and creature effects, I hope you don't entirely give up on future generations.
There are always those who break new ground, try new things and bring us to a place that we didn't know was possible. At SWSCA, we hope to play a small part in inspiring one of the icons of generations to come.

Stan Winston School Oh yeah, from what I saw here, Kevin Peter Hall looked like quite the guy, and Stan of course was the great character creator who worked with him to make the Predator the icon that he is. Long live Predator, indeed!
Now I have the book "The Winston Effect," in the chapter on "Predator," there's an interesting piece about how since the shooting conditions in South America were rough, the SWS crew there pulled a prank on Stan involving putting frogs in his hotel bathroom! I found that hilarious! Another interesting story from the shoot!

great job with the video man. Predator is my top 3 favorite movie of all time. I really miss the old school practical effects. Till this day I get goosebumps when I 1st see the predator reveal himself. Don't get me wrong CGI can be a wonderful art itself if used properly. Like for example, Dawn of the planet of the apes. But today its so rushed, I just wish directors used more practical effects. Today horror movies are pretty much cartoons. The thing to me had the best practical effects ever. I mean especially for that time imagine how hard it was to shoot those scenes.

I had wanted to be in front of this giant predator..Best movie ever..!!
As much work as they put in I'm still in shock how real the predator looked esp when the mask came off and they have close up shots of him. They still have not been able to match this from back in 86-87 & 92..and no one has come close to Kevin Peter Hall as a performer of it ..all the cgi in the world can't come close

I have had many heroes that like i like.. but predator is more then a fictional being he symbolises things that its a part of me
I dont remember what site it was that went detailed into the predators qualities in real detail and i remember reading that over 10 years ago it still sticks with me... its that thing to be inspired by something else that reminds of us in a way.. somehow connects with it and fall in love with it in someways.

An awesome movie full of amazing designs. I've just started working on a Predator helmet for my nephew. With any luck, I'll have an entire costume done by next Halloween. He's been wanting one for years, and now thanks to the assortment of tutorials here on youtube I think I may just be able to pull it off.
