Well, of course: they were the best thing about the X-Men reboot. And then for some reason, the movies after First Class just kept focusing more and more on things other than the dynamic between Magneto and Xavier and what would eventually become their complicated friendship that basically drove the comic. For me, the most annoying part of this gradual trainwreck was Apocalypse, simply because they kept putting Magneto through the same exact storyline over and over again--he's atoning... and oh, he's not atoning again. If they hadn't screwed themselves by introducing Gambit in the joke that was Origin and putting Apocalypse in the pre-Wolverine/Rogue timeline, they could have made a story that made some kind of sense. They basically crammed Magneto into Gambit's storyline and were like, "SHUT UP IT TOTALLY MAKES SENSE JUST WATCH IT!"
By itself, Logan is a fantastic movie. It's a kind of depressing franchise end for me though, after the end to Future Past undid all the dumb stuff like Cyclops dying offscreen. The original cast got a happy ending, only to have it taken away again after things got arguably worse for them, than it was before they got their happy ending.

Fox brings back the same writer who botched the Dark Phoenix saga in Last Stand back to direct as well as write Dark Phoenix. Completely setting yourself up for repeat failure when you could have redeemed yourself.

I actually liked X-Men The Last Stand and Dark Phoenix. The action was actually good in those movies. Brian Singer was a terrible action director I felt. Only Days of Future Past was had descent action imo. I would say X-Men Apocalypse was the worst, not counting the first two wolverine movies.

Sean Wheeler While you and I have different varying opinions on the movies, I think we can agree on this: Apocalypse, Fantastic Four, and Rise of the Silver Surfer? At least they had colour, humour, actual superhero antics and some charismatic acting from their leads. This and Fant4stic? Either Bored when not paying attention or angry when I am, because EVERYTHING IS JUST WROOOOOOOONG.
The moviegoer and Xmen franchise relation can be seen as a toxic relationship. There was a lot of awful experiences, but once in a while Xmen did something great for us that made us forget, and continue playing along. But this was the moment that convinced us that things would never be like they were once, and finally gave us the courage to break up with Xmen. The MCU is way hotter anyways.
He's worked on most of them. And the cast wanted him for Dark Phoenix because Bryan Singer was AWOL for most of Apocalypse and he stepped in to help get it finished.
I ponder this too when this movie was under production. But now this is behind us, we can look forward to the MCU steering this franchise to the correct course.

Ever heard about this thing involving people playing elaborate games to get to sit on a large chair? (though Sophie's hardly to blame for that--nor are any of the actors, for that matter, the acting was top-notch despite the horrific scripts they were given to work with)

4:36 there's a deleted scene where the Phoenix makes her kill an old man for no reason, and gets blood on her clothes there. It's the old man she uses to disguise herself at the bar. Also in early trailers, this scene had her with deleted dialogue saying "Why did you make me do that!" and that refers to the random old man she killed.

At this point, the only way for Mutants and the X-Men to integrate into the MCU is by saying they're from an alternate reality and another Earth. All the stuff that Beck said about the multiverse in Spider-Man: Far From Home wasn't total BS. They could even do their own version of The Avengers vs. X-Men story with Rogue doing what she did to Captain Marvel in the comics being what starts the conflict. Stealing her powers and personality, nearly killing her, and putting her into a coma.

When a 90s cartoon does the Phoenix Saga better versus Hollywood getting two goes at it then something is wrong. Seriously, go watch the 90's Phoenix Saga cartoon. It's good, unlike this film. You'll be glad you did.
There's so much more to the story than the film adaptations. One might think adapting it again would simply feel like a retread, like this film does, but they'd actually get a unique space epic. There's a lot more to the story than Jean gets dark and powerful. The MCU needn't feel afraid to touch this when they incorporate the X-Men.
Beyond the space epic stuff, there's just the fact that we actually get to know Jean Grey beforehand. In the '90s cartoon, Jean was the voice of compassion and empathy among the X-Men. So, to see her get taken over by a dark force really does have an impact.

I really hope so too. My favorite Marvel heroes. They also need to make it about the team, and not one mutant. Wolverine is overplayed (like seriously over played), and for the love of God no more semi-sweet Mystique who doesn't tell Nightcrawler for the 3rd time he's her son.
Feige is gonna have to save the day for this one. I'm waiting for an actual good Dark Phoenix storyline. Maybe a two parter like Avengers 4 or maybe even a trilogy to fully flesh out the story.
Face it, the series was never great, nowhere near as good as the MCU or Raimi's Spider-Man. Never really captured the spirit and feel of the comics. It's needed a proper rebooting for over a decade, yet they kept resurrecting the corpse.

I actually liked X-Men The Last Stand and Dark Phoenix. The action was actually good in those movies. Brian Singer was a terrible action director I felt. Only Days of Future Past was had descent action imo. I would say X-Men Apocalypse was the worst, not counting the first two wolverine movies.

Otherwise it pretty much undoes all of DOFP immediately after, and is a pretty shitty ending for all the other characters, all dying off screen after just getting brought back through time travel.
Matt Gales Logan wasn’t part of this franchise timeline. This franchise timeline includes First Class, DOFP, Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix.

At least they had colour, humour, actual superhero antics and some charismatic acting from their leads. This and Fant4stic? Either Bored when not paying attention or angry when I am, because EVERYTHING IS JUST WROOOOOOOONG.
The moviegoer and Xmen franchise relation can be seen as a toxic relationship. There was a lot of awful experiences, but once in a while Xmen did something great for us that made us forget, and continue playing along. But this was the moment that convinced us that things would never be like they were once, and finally gave us the courage to break up with Xmen.
The MCU is way hotter anyways.
But won’t the viewer enter a toxic relationship with the MCU after Endgame thanks to Disney+ and Stinky Cheese Larson?

4:36 there's a deleted scene where the Phoenix makes her kill an old man for no reason, and gets blood on her clothes there. It's the old man she uses to disguise herself at the bar. Also in early trailers, this scene had her with deleted dialogue saying "Why did you make me do that!" and that refers to the random old man she killed.
Can we talk about how the X-men had time to bury Mystique, change clothes & have an entire funeral for her while the police were still at the crime scene?

At this point, the only way for Mutants and the X-Men to integrate into the MCU is by saying they're from an alternate reality and another Earth. They could even do their own version of The Avengers vs. X-Men story with Rogue doing what she did to Captain Marvel in the comics being what starts the conflict. Stealing her powers and personality, nearly killing her, and putting her into a coma.

There's so much more to the story than the film adaptations. One might think adapting it again would simply feel like a retread, like this film does, but they'd actually get a unique space epic. There's a lot more to the story than Jean gets dark and powerful. The MCU needn't feel afraid to touch this when they incorporate the X-Men.
I actually did that immediately after seeing this dross. I put on the 9 Phoenix Saga episodes
Beyond the space epic stuff, there's just the fact that we actually get to know Jean Grey beforehand. In the '90s cartoon, Jean was the voice of compassion and empathy among the X-Men. So, to see her get taken over by a dark force really does have an impact.

I really hope so too. My favorite Marvel heroes. They also need to make it about the team, and not one mutant. Wolverine is overplayed (like seriously over played), and for the love of God no more semi-sweet Mystique who doesn't tell Nightcrawler for the 3rd time he's her son.
Feige is gonna have to save the day for this one. I'm waiting for an actual good Dark Phoenix storyline. Maybe a two parter like Avengers 4 or maybe even a trilogy to fully flesh out the story.
Face it, the series was never great, nowhere near as good as the MCU or Raimi's Spider-Man. Never really captured the spirit and feel of the comics. It's needed a proper rebooting for over a decade, yet they kept resurrecting the corpse.
