    After all you really showed me step by step as to how a newbie can use the apo plugin. Thank you so much. My booth still allows the traffic noise to sip in and i really oike got the noise gate cleans vocals

    Having used actual API 500 series modules in the past, (as well as the 2500 compressor), and having used other various plugin manufacturer’s emulations of API preamps, EQ’s, and compressors, I can say that (IMO) UAD has come the absolute closest to authentically recreating how real API hardware sounds and reacts.
    And, nice job on explaining API EQ’s proportional Q as well, which I’m not sure all that many users would be aware of, particularly if they have no experience with actual API hardware.
    While API preamps can add loads of color, they can also sound very clear and clean, too, unlike other classic preamps, which impart noticeable coloration right from the start at unity gain.
    I wouldn’t go as far to say that API’s are completely transparent, but they can be a lot cleaner than other classic preamps, and having the option to choose that cleaner sound, or driving it hard to get the classic API mid-forward and aggressive vibe, is one of the things I like most about API mic preamps.
    IMHO.

    Yep - you've nailed most of it; I can't think of any other tip. The gate is second to none. Try using the Neve 88RS gate in comparison - BLAH! The Neve channelstrip is maybe a little smoother, but I've never been able to handle it like the API Vision. Not my thing. API all the way!

    Hi Steve I am a Cubase user and want to see if Luna is something for me.
    I bought an Apollo twin X and now I want to learn how to use Luna.
    So I am starting to follow your videos.
    The first thing I noticed is that in the mixer you can choose console but only UA plugins,
    I have the UC1 and the UF8 and would like to use the SSL channelstrip2 or the 4K B in the console.
    My question is can I choose these in the console?
    Gr Ness

    • @TheSteveKinney
      @TheSteveKinney  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question!
      So. You can choose any AU plugin in post Production.
      In the “real time monitoring” mode, which is the DSP mode for tracking with no latency, you can only only monitor through the UAD plugins.
      There is a non arm mode that has a touch off latency, I’d expect that they will work on this in the future.
      But ya - those plugins will show up in the “inserts” tab inside of the mixer window.
      Hope this makes sense, happy to answer anything else.
      Cheers mate!

    hi...thnx man...
    What is the difference between the line and the input knob on the new Plugin?

    • @TheSteveKinney
      @TheSteveKinney  ปีที่แล้ว

      Input knob is the modeled mic preamp section
      Line is the modeled line in. Which is typically a little more transparent

      @@TheSteveKinney okok so If I put the plugin for exapmle on my vocal I can use either both of them? When I try it out it seems the mic preamp has like more power(Volume)

    • @TheSteveKinney
      @TheSteveKinney  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@goldcoco well. Line level signals are basically just the default signal level. And it has about 12db of gain
      Where as the mic pre initially is gained up to begin with and then has an additional 64db of gain I think.

    • @TheSteveKinney

    I have the legacy strip and am pretty disapointed that i have to spend another 150 euro to be able to use it as a native plugin. the only difference is the fader, which i dont really need and also the plugin is not that old to be called legacy. the la2a, 1176 and pultecs are much older and are not legacy. :( sometimes universal audio does cruel things.

    • @TheSteveKinney
      @TheSteveKinney  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be fair.. I think that if you don't need / want the fader & output section emulation, then you're kind of better off with the Legacy.
      The Preamp section model is bang on and all the other features are the exact same.
      Although - I totally see where you're coming from on the native thing.. they kind of screwed the pooch with their pricing when they came out with the newer API.
      it was a confusing debacle that only got weirder with the "console" emulation plugin for Luna.
      I own both and bought both, but don't get the Luna Extension haha.. it's so confusing.
      But none the less, it sounds fantastic!
      Cheers mate!

    • @azamat19
      @azamat19 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheSteveKinney yeah the preamp is fantastic. I have some nice and expensive hardware preamps and i often use the unison API, as i prefer it on some tracks.
      I think they should have just upgraded the old version for free or a minor fee.
      But maybe i will be able to get the complete api bundle in a deal for 200€ as an upgrade? If something like this happens, the pill won't be as hard to swallow.

    • @TheSteveKinney

      It definitely can be a problem and it’s incredibly easy to take into that “too much” territory quickly.
      But when used sparingly, it’s incredible at cleaning up snares and kicks, bad guitar, BGV’s or vocals where you can’t erase the audio when the vocalist isn’t singing.
