I make 118k a year (yes for real). Single no kids. I spend my money on meal prep company each week (don't cook), I invest in stocks and crypto, and live very minimal. I still drive my 2016 Honda and live well below my means. Every so often I'll splurge on a trip or something, but people that make half as much as me spend more than I do lol. They have the nice cars and wonder why I'm still driving the Honda 🤷♂️

I think financial education should be a required course or courses in high school, which would really help teens understand how money and investing works.
I went to public high school in New Jersey where taking a financial literacy is mandated. The people who most needed the help did not pay attention in class. I did and got some good tips from it but nothing will top all of the financial education I received from my parents.
The same people who say that are the kids that would be sleeping in that class. If you don’t have bills to pay you’re not going to care about financial education.

This is probably one of my favorite episodes of MM because it is so realistic. She has a relatable job with a normal salary, and her bills are so much on point compared to some of the other episodes. I’ve actually stopped watching a lot of them because they try to tell me the person puts 3k a month away in savings, only has $250 in credit card spend and spends $300 a month on food which includes groceries and going out. Oh and they either don’t have any student debt or they only graduated with 5k. This person is someone I would actually want to get financial advice from.

I spend way too much time checking my bank accounts and this ridiculously complicated spreadsheet that I've set up to track my finances. Glad to hear that I'm not the only one.
Yeah I second Personal Capital for investment and net worth tracking. Mint is a bit bettter at budget tracking and auto classifying linked credit / debit card transactions into budget categories.
I watch her transfer Tuesday videos and part of her savings is for her tax bill from her youtube income. I assume they're calculating these numbers based on how much she has left from her 60k salary. 60k minus 6% or about $3600 (401k contribution), minus health insurance (probably 2k), minus the standard deduction of 12k - all 3 not taxable - then her taxable income is about 40k or an effective tax rate of 12%, she will only be deducted less than 5k in taxes. However she will owe the irs almost 4k at the end of the year from her side gig income (part of her monthly $700 savings). Also she may have other deductions, bringing down her tax bill from her side gig earnings. I like the smart assets calculator. It's pretty accurate on how much you owe the irs.
So excited to see another microbiologist on here too! Research can pay very well if you get into industry. Government (some) and academia not so much. Loved this video

Yeah, she should be closer to six figures for sure, especially when she gets some more experience. Idk, its possible. Most companies have a cost of living salary adjustment, but they're like 10% swings in either direction from what I've seen.
Don’t pursue a degree right out of high school if you’re not sure what you want to do. Every job I have been at, gives at least 2500$ toward school a semester so why not enter the working field first? That’s awesome making 81k in Georgia congrats doing something right!
Why is that sad? You choose to take out loans. And the evidence shows a degree more than makes up for the debt. Also 50K debt isn't normal for a graduate

Is this pre-tax income because these numbers don't add up? I'm pretty sure in GA if you make $81K your take home should be around $58k-$60K and her budget is $6391 a month or $76,692 a year.
Why is no one talking about how her monthly budget of $6300 exceeds her wages? She makes roughly $4800/ month after taxes. Why is everyone commenting inspirational lmfao
Her monthly budget is $6,391 as shown in this video, that's $76k per year. How is she able to take home $76k per year with just $81k gross income? Only $5k income tax?
I really do not get the US. I can't get credit even if I wanted to, our country doesn't work that way, you need to HAVE money to RECEIVE MORE money. I bought my car cash after saving for it. I can't get a decent mortgage so I got a personal loan to build a studio apartment in my dads garden. All the money I will ever have is on my account right now, zero debt.

This makes me so sad. In Canada I take home about 90-95k and my monthly budget is only $4700 because the rest is taxes. ($4700 based on 2 pays per month, the 3 pay months I count as bonuses)
Healthy food, exercise, and medical care will always be a good investment. Glad to see someone taking care of their body and being open about their health. She seems super savvy and like she's learned hard lessons young. Great episode!!
Crohn's is a serious disease. Props to her for battling it while staying physically healthy. However, going from $0 NW in your 30s (debt free) to FI in your 40s is almost impossible, especially with a sub 6 figure salary, not to mention her monthly expenses.
Thanks Edward! I actually have over a $0 net worth at this point and I don't expect my living expenses to stay this high for much longer. I still live alone in a pretty costly apartment and I expect my income to increase pretty significantly over the next couple of years! I do think it will be possible :)
I understand your point about sub 6 figure for most people. But for her, it's completely possible. A Salesforce consultant in year one usually starts around $60k-$80k, but by year 3, it is over $100k very easily. Check out Salesforce Consultants on any job board. It is one of the best and least talked about professions in America that anyone can get into!

I don't understand how someone making ~$80K including bonus and side hustle can have $6.4K of disposable income per month. Not sure what the methodology is, but would love to understand it a little more.
These numbers aren't all 100% accurate. CNBC has to come up with something that makes the most sense to represent a single monthly budget, but my spending isn't exactly like this each time. This is also going based off of gross income. Overall, the calculations aren't perfect here lol
@@user-td7xf3gz4l I dont think so. I don't see how someone who talks about using a budget would be glad about living above their means. I think CNBC shows pretax money. Either that or that's her take home pay
I literally don't understand the American perspective. We here in Europe, call someone who makes around 3000-4000$ net a good earner and it takes years to reach that salary. And here a young woman, earning almost 7k! I know most things here are free, but still, a lot of money you guys make! Maybe I should just move to America☺️
I'm very grateful for my income but in my opinion it's not enough to live comfortably for what I would like in life. Cost of living has increased significantly and it will take me years to buy a home. I'm still paying down debt, medical expenses cost me a lot, food, etc
All that student debt to go and be a sales consultant 😬 I'm sure she would like a do-over on that, but it shows how insane of an expectation it is for an 18 year old to know what they want to do for the rest of their life.
Why do people keep saying that? 18 year olds are more than capable of thinking for themselves and knowing what they like. Unless they are autistic, they should be able to answer “Do you like Math? Do you like Science? Do you like history?” Etc. How is that so hard to figure out?
is 'salesforce consultant' a good career? is 60k low/average/high for that role? curious if she has room to grow, or if she just has a specific skillset that is already basically what the role encompasses. curious to hear more about that. i thought some salesforce roles can pay like 150-200k, but i dont really know tech
Salesforce is what I'm trying to get into...so much room to grow...I'm a Respiratory Therapist ...my coworker studied Salesforce on his own and got a 100K job...

I spend way too much time checking my bank accounts and this ridiculously complicated spreadsheet that I've set up to track my finances. Glad to hear that I'm not the only one.
Oh yeah, I spend soo much time on my finances 😂 But I find it quite fun!
Me too. And it’s only gotten worse as I got rich. It’s unhealthy
Just use personal capital
Yeah I second Personal Capital for investment and net worth tracking. Mint is a bit bettter at budget tracking and auto classifying linked credit / debit card transactions into budget categories.
@@dlod8371 I'm not a fan of linking my bank accounts with other companies. I use Quicken as well.
Taxes are less than 6% total? Her monthly net income income seems too high for an $81K gross income.
Okay I thought I was tripping, I'm near what she's making and I'm nowhere near this amount
Agreed. I want her to make as much money possible. But this doesn’t add up
I think she makes 81k after taxes so about 110k pre tax
Wtf? I make 93k and pay 25% tax. That's $5800 before insurance, CoL, and 401k ...
Interesting transition from dentistry to microbiology to Salesforce consulting!
Sadly, one of those does not require a Masters college degree.
I work at Salesforce ayee
Why is this somehow surprising. 81k a year is thriving.
So excited to see another microbiologist on here too! Research can pay very well if you get into industry. Government (some) and academia not so much. Loved this video
Did the mic die at 5:07 lol
I appreciate how realistic this video is! Also so impressed with how she has moved past her money mistakes and learned from them.
82k in Georgia must be like living like royalty
def good salary for her are and she is not in ATL
no it's living okish, living like royalty is making $400k and up. the cost of living is going up so fast my apartment had a $500 increase from when I moved in. everyone thinks Georgia is cheap and moves here making prices go up.
@@Saffron777 I don't, it seems many people think the south is cheap but cost has gone up everywhere. I am in the northeast but I know for a fact GA, TX and FL rent house shot up like anywhere else.
@@alp.9672 there are news articles showing how Atlanta is competing with San Francisco (most expensive city in the U.S) with cost of living, by comparing the money that’s being made by the people that live here and how much evening is. Most people will be under the poverty line very soon. Atlanta will be one of those cities where if you’re not making 100k a year or more you might not be able live humanely.
P.S Decatur is basically Atlanta, it’s the next city over. It’s like saying Manhattan is not New York City
@@Saffron777 No NYC is the most expensive city in the US. I think Boston passed San Fran cost wise wise too. Miami shot up also.
Just sent an application in 🥳
She's underpaid for being a Salesforce consultant, companies pay a lot more for that position typically.
Agree unless she literally just started, Salesforce admins these days with 1-2 years can push $100k+
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe it's because she lives in Georgia?
Yeah, she should be closer to six figures for sure, especially when she gets some more experience.
Idk, its possible. Most companies have a cost of living salary adjustment, but they're like 10% swings in either direction from what I've seen.
I just started in Salesforce! I had no paid Salesforce experience and just started my new job this month!
@@rachelpatterson2327 I did just start! I had no paid Salesforce experience and just started my new job this month!
Don’t pursue a degree right out of high school if you’re not sure what you want to do. Every job I have been at, gives at least 2500$ toward school a semester so why not enter the working field first? That’s awesome making 81k in Georgia congrats doing something right!
Sadly… starting out your life at 50k in student debt has become normalized in American society.
Why is that sad?
You choose to take out loans. And the evidence shows a degree more than makes up for the debt.
Also 50K debt isn't normal for a graduate
I’ve been watching Leila for almost 2 years now and she’s given me so much inspiration not just financially but healthwise as well. This girl is amazing and I’m so happy she was featured ☺️💕 (even tho they messed up her numbers 😂)

Is this pre-tax income because these numbers don't add up? I'm pretty sure in GA if you make $81K your take home should be around $58k-$60K and her budget is $6391 a month or $76,692 a year.
Pretty sure they always use pre tax income
Decatur where it’s greater!
Ayyye 💃
I grew up in Decatur and Lithonia. Its definitely changed over the past decade.
What a surprise to see Leila here! Very well deserved!
I know, I watch her finance channel all the time.
yess!!! love seeing people we follow being featured in such a big channel. I hope this helps her channel grow!! 🚀🚀
This won’t age long. $81k in Atl metro is like $50-60k a year ago.
Yeah that 62% inflation rate in Atlanta lol
Why is no one talking about how her monthly budget of $6300 exceeds her wages? She makes roughly $4800/ month after taxes. Why is everyone commenting inspirational lmfao
It sucks about the ex, but she is doing fantastic now.
Her monthly budget is $6,391 as shown in this video, that's $76k per year. How is she able to take home $76k per year with just $81k gross income? Only $5k income tax?
I believe the 81k is after taxes
?
it is not correct; she would be making 6 figures and it discredits this entire video
@@PlainAndChelsea When people are talking about salary, people are usually referring to the gross income, which is pretax. This video is misleading.
@@born2serve92 yeah!
Graham Stephan, do your thang!
It would be great if young people didn't have to hit rock bottom to start learning about finances. Always great to see success stories like hers and that she's sticking to her goals.
This is fantastic! I'm a Salesforce Administrator as well and I graduated from GSU too! I'm working on leveling up my side hustles as well to become debt free and financially independent. Just don't have kids anytime soon. They're expensive 🥴😂.
yes kids are expensive but it's part of life ....the more people wait to have kids, the more complications..our food habits and other habits are not the same as it was during our parents and grandparents time. by the way, I'm trying to put my foot into Salesforce. I'm a Respiratory Therapist.

Leila very impressed on how you are learning from your mistakes and moving forward, and also making a side hustle to help other people with there finances as well! Love to see it. Congrats on your growth. You should be very proud of yourself!
dear @CNBCMakeIt...please show us update episodes on Millennial Money participants. REACH OUT TO THEM TO UPDATE US! I know everyone won't agree to an update but I'm just very curious. I remember the update episode on the hairstylist...and then it just stopped...no more updates.
I am so proud of how she is taking care of herself both financially and personally.
This makes me so sad. In Canada I take home about 90-95k and my monthly budget is only $4700 because the rest is taxes. ($4700 based on 2 pays per month, the 3 pay months I count as bonuses)
Leila, Thank you for sharing your journey. 🏆👑
It is not "normal" to carry debt into adulthood. It's a problem.
Healthy food, exercise, and medical care will always be a good investment. Glad to see someone taking care of their body and being open about their health. She seems super savvy and like she's learned hard lessons young. Great episode!!
Do they not take taxes into the equation?
Crohn's is a serious disease. Props to her for battling it while staying physically healthy. However, going from $0 NW in your 30s (debt free) to FI in your 40s is almost impossible, especially with a sub 6 figure salary, not to mention her monthly expenses.
Thanks Edward! I actually have over a $0 net worth at this point and I don't expect my living expenses to stay this high for much longer. I still live alone in a pretty costly apartment and I expect my income to increase pretty significantly over the next couple of years! I do think it will be possible :)
It's doable
I understand your point about sub 6 figure for most people. But for her, it's completely possible. A Salesforce consultant in year one usually starts around $60k-$80k, but by year 3, it is over $100k very easily. Check out Salesforce Consultants on any job board. It is one of the best and least talked about professions in America that anyone can get into!
@@PersonalFinancewithLeila It's definitely doable. Being into IT field, i can see 2-4 years from now your exp. in SalesForce will start to give you benefits plus the TH-cam channel growth if it happens at a good pace.
All the best , i am going to subscribe to your finance channel !
I also intend to start my own youtube channel one day .. hopefully within this year !
Being financially independent just means that you don’t really owe anyone anything and have more freedom and wiggle room. She didn’t say she wanted to retire early
Learn from your mistake and you will be a wiser person
Smart girl
Great episode.
Can someone please check this math. It doesn’t add up there is not enough money takin out for taxes.
Finally, someone who makes a realistic income not someone who makes $500,000 a year
Finallly a local from the ATL metro :)
I love Leila’s channel! ❤️ I’m so glad to see her here
I don't understand how someone making ~$80K including bonus and side hustle can have $6.4K of disposable income per month. Not sure what the methodology is, but would love to understand it a little more.
I think it’s the pre taxed amount
@@Tagg25 Agreed
She spends 6.4k/month. Which is more than her take home pay, but probably is using savings on the remainder

You have no idea how much it cost to live in America, more than half our population lives paycheck to paycheck and many cannot afford to get a home.
Nothing is free.
Europeans pay more taxes, which covers medical care and general social care.
@@PersonalFinancewithLeila 😂
She’s amazing ❤
All that student debt to go and be a sales consultant 😬 I'm sure she would like a do-over on that, but it shows how insane of an expectation it is for an 18 year old to know what they want to do for the rest of their life.
Why do people keep saying that? 18 year olds are more than capable of thinking for themselves and knowing what they like. Unless they are autistic, they should be able to answer “Do you like Math? Do you like Science? Do you like history?” Etc. How is that so hard to figure out?
As someone who also has a medical condition and is into finance, investments etc, this motivates me even more, anything is possible.
When your favourite TH-cam is featured! Congrats Lelia!
this will be a great idear if show those doc, in high school
