- Today we change gears a bit to look at some BattleTech compatable terrain coming out in July and August 2023 from Gale Force Nine.

I was sent these terrain pieces in exchange for a review, though no guarantees of positive coverage were made. The statements made in the video are my own and reflect our honest opinions on the products.

Those are really nice models, the buildings have their own unique look to them, not imitating other franchises.
It would be too easy toproduce stuff that looks like Warhammer, Star Wars or any kind of SciFi like Dune ect.
But no, they managed to create their own identity and design language.
Yet i hope there will be more designs to represent different planets and Houses.
Agreed. I expect if the first two waves sell well, they'll keep it going.
@@MechanicalFrog I would also like to see military forst and bases with either different or replacable markings for each House.
You know, with Control Towers, Mech Hangars, Tank Maintenance and Landing Strips for Aerospace- and conventional Fighters and other craft. Com Towers, Defense Towers, Infantry Barracks ect.
A Hospital or Med Center, because that could be used for both Bases and regular cities, maybe a HPG Center for if you want to include ComStar or WoB.
The possibilities are ENDLESS!
@@sim.frischh9781 As it so happens, HexTech has designs for ALL of those things, all of which conform to the same design principles.
We are lined up for three years of regular releases, and in that time we probably won't get through the entire existing catalog!

They were brilliant in using a font & text color similar to what is used for BT as we all recognize that as it jumps out to us BT/MW junkies, & makes it look like an official product. That terrain & structure looks great! I would like to see them offer a bldg 2 pack that has two bldgs of different heights. I was also going to ask what level they are at & think it would be nice if they had that imprinted on the structure, & in the same color as the terrain or roof. Thanks for the review, & thankful GF9 sent you guys this to make this review. Good to see you & Minifrog are having fun with it. Also what map are you using that has the biodomes?
Yeah Thunderhead knows what they're doing. That map is the Lunar Base.

Happy to do the signal boost. I'm curious about in-fill pavement/park/commons spaces tiles that could fill in the gaps created by streets and buildings.
@@MechanicalFrog Blankish concrete hex formations are something I've offered as free files for a while, but I can certainly bring that suggestion to GF9 to see if we can't get something added to the main line.

These buildings seem like a pretty good product. The pricepoint is fair, the quality seems good, the paintjob is solid and I like the designs. These buildings also avoided a pet peeve of mine when it comes to buildings designed for BT: You can actually place units on top. I't kinda weird how many designs don't do that.
I'd prefer more clear hexes on the rooftops though, but that's a really minor complaint.
I think adding some grit to the buildings will also go a long way to make them look even better and more "lived in". Even just a "Steiner go home!" grafitti on a wall will completely change the vibe.
They're still holding up well.

Ask at your FLGS in Australia to get them in for you!
Australian distributors/stores have the ability to bring this in. There are several that have direct accounts.
I love that these are mech scale and not map scale
They really do feel perfect for mechs.

I loathe map scale. Everything I make is mech-scale. I've also got a rules mod for Alpha Strike in the works specifically to make best use of HexTech. Time will tell if it's any good :P

They're pretty neat.
Looks like a winner to me, especially the multi tiered rock formations. Those and the roads will definitely be added to my collection.

I think the neat thing about doing this through Gale Force 9, my FLGS can probably order these directly.

From my experience, GF9/Battlefront are a really good company, who seem to be strangely obsessed with making and selling miniatures and board games instead of the usual miniature and board game companies price gouging and hostile business practice.

I have a few hills and ruined buildings bought back when Steel Warrior was making Hextech. I can't wait to pick up some new hills and roads to expand my collection.
It's great to have the option for people who don't have access to the ol' 3D printers.
I'm thinking the "Justice Tower" a reference to the cop building in 80's Blade Runner movie. It's not the same but there are many similarities.

I've actually tried to block out a properly scaled Megablock but it wound up being like ten feet tall so that didn't exactly work.

The rock mounts remind me of Piestewa Peak in Phoenix, AZ. More cities than you might think have mountains either in or near them.

Glass tables and children...yeah that sounds familiar. Ive got a little one and very little shelf space for anything other a few more lances of mecha. But...i really love the look of these. Thank you!

Just got a set of the rock steps. A criticism I have is how they are packed. Two sets of mine came cracked. Styrofoam inserts maybe a better shipping option. Or change them to a more pliable material that won't shatter.
Oh that's unfortunate. I would share what happened with GF9 so they can perhaps tackle the issue.

As someone who has repurposed old Heroscape tiles for battletech maps (a game internbob & I liked back when it was New ... But kinda got frustrated with it's balance issues.) I'm curious if the hex baseplates would sit on top of them well.
Definitely like the mountains and the Incomplete hex look is great. Agree that a pack of smaller Road Side lvl 1 building/lots (lvl 0 water pond ?) would definitely help the kit as a whole.

I've been wondering what these were the GM at our LGS uses these in City missions and these aren't sold at our LGS our GM is the only one to handle all terrain for our BT games

Pre-made pre-painted terrain that I can just slap on top of a hex map? I know where my discretionary funds are going this month.
Ditto... I just ordered a few more of the triangle buildings.
honestly considering the variety of their stl/s i would have liked to see more variety in the boxes not just 2 of the exact same thing

Look great just way to high a price point with 3d printing as a norm now. Great review! Wish that rhe company waa thinking a little more about cost ro end user.
I was talking to some friends to have various levels of 3D printers. They determined that filling a table with terrain would take the better part of a month for one person to do. That's not including errors, Clogs, etc. It's a matter of volume. And then there's the side benefit that these are already painted and have cloth bottoms.
Thanks. I think GF9 may be able to find a niche for the BT fans who don't have access to printers or those who really want high quality models that aren't as prone to breaking like with 3D printed resin.
Don't have to count it out, yet! ALL of HexTech is available as STLs for at-home printing.

He loves the King Crab and has adopted the ComGuard/ExplorerCorps army as "his." Which I suppose it will be some day.
