No, and I mean NO scary movie has ever scared me. Not even as a kid. In fact, when I was a kid, a "scary movie" was often correlated with thr expectation there might be 2.37 seconds of boooobs. The two that scared me, as you say, chills, butterflies, and a brief hiccup in my heartbeat was this scene, and The Shining, when the butler warns Jack that the "cook, a *****r cook" is on his way. THAT is when the question of whether it was benign (relatively) paranormal activity, or Demonic in nature was resolutely and frighteningly clarified.

Many say that embracing cinema with heavy subject matter is unhealthy, but as a person that never had a resolution from that incident long ago, help me feel happy that art shows these various walks of life this constant struggle, regardless of exaggeration. This is the very reason why Angel Heart is one of my favorite films among many that I experienced.

Considering Mickey Rourke had had enough of acting by this time and was on the verge of quitting, (he only took the role after the director Alan Parker asked him and he needed the money not to lose his home) his acting is Oscar Worthy. His pain and anguish is etched on his face; this scene ('Who was the boy?') and the ending ('I know who I am') send shivers down my spine every time.

Oscar nominations should have gone to Rourke as lead and De Niro in supporting. Mickey never came close to this performance, the greatest of his career. De Niro gives an acting masterclass in how not to overact. This movie is sadly forgotten. Deserves to be hailed as one of the greatest of mystery thrillers.

"But how the world turns! One day, cock of the walk -- next, a feather duster!"
Unfortunately, Rourke to a large extent squandered the good luck he'd been given. He was starting to develop a reputation in Hollywood for being difficult and unreliable -- and when he decided that he wanted to become a professional boxer, he turned out to have a "glass jaw" and the plastic surgery he needed to repair his face ruined his looks. Rourke's story was hardly the worst one to come out of Hollywood but there's no denying that it was to some extent a case study in poor judgment.
