  • The PWHL Draft and Awards ceremony took place in St. Paul, Minnesota, where to no one's surprise, Sarah FIllier was selected first overall by PWHL New York. After that, almost nothing went to script. A trade to move up - a controversial pick - Amanda Kessel almost going undrafted - some sneaky moves and celebrations for the players involved.
    We try to wrap it up with some stories of what happened, from the Luleå trio to the controversy and the new teammates who are also old teammates. And there's more to come!

    What an amazing first season, and the Finals, draft and awards 👌🏽
    Made a Reddit post yeasterday asking how ppl felt after Brittas Insta video, and man.. Can understand from what ppl where showing what stuff she interacted with. And the GM situation, just a realy sad way to end the season.
    Im realy hyped for next season tho, all the new players, team names and logos, and for me gonna be realy fun to get to watch the Swedish and Finnish players as Im from Sweden myself.

    On what draft board was Klára Hymlárová considered a third round pick? When was she considered a better prospect than Izzy Daniel or Abby Boreen?
    Klára Hymlárová: Games: 36 Goals: 8 Assists: 16 Points: 24 Penalty Mins: 12 +/-: 1
    Izzy Daniel: Games: 34 Goals: 21 Assists: 38 Points: 59 Penalty Mins: 10 +/-: +29 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winner
    I had Klára Hymlárová as a 4th or 5th round pick, and I am a SCSU Huskies fan.
    It is highly likely that Minnesota could have selected either Daniel or Boreen in the third round and still drafted Hymlárová in the 4th round. Why are you afraid to say that pick was a reach? Brooke McQuigge was another reach in the 4th round. Those mid rounds were a killer for Minnesota.

    • @gamedayhockey
      @gamedayhockey  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Oh, I understand. It looks like something in their scouting had her ranked more highly, but not taking Boreen there was a really odd move and signaled something was definitely going on with power dynamics. Hymlarova has a certain skill set that should translate to the PWHL but it’s not scoring and she hasn’t shown what Abby has so it didn’t make sense to me either. I’m happy that Izzy fell to Toronto and I hope she scores in buckets.

      @@gamedayhockey The mid rounds of this draft were a debacle for Minnesota, and all fans can talk about here is about Britta Curl. That shows that politics is more important than actual hockey for these fans. If the PWHL doesn't want to end up like the WNBA over the last decade, they better put the game ahead of all of the political visuals, and that is the opposite of what they have done.

    • @gamedayhockey

      I addressed the entire situation in Minnesota as baffling and unfortunate, the division in the locker room and drafting Curl. Which debacle did I not address?

    • @Too-Odd
      @Too-Odd 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@gamedayhockey Many Minnesota fans want to know why PWHL Minnesota passed on two Minnesota born players in the third round when they were much better prospects. What is going on here?
      What was Minnesota's mindset when it passed up offensive players for defensive and roleplayers. Minnesota passed on speedy Hannah Bilka in the first round, and then they passed on Izzy Daniel in the third.
      If they believed Claire Thompson was the BPA in the first, then they had better cover their backside on offense. I have nothing against Klára Hymlárová, but she has shown nothing close to the offensive ability of Izzy Daniel, and they are the same size, so talking about her other abilities is moot. Izzy not only can finish, which Hymlárová has not shown a keen ability to do, she facilitated 38 assists last year.
      Minnesota had trouble finishing last season, and none of their three free agents had good a season in that regard. In this draft, which was as deep as a draft will ever get, they failed to address that issue early on, and that will put them behind the eight ball for at least two seasons to come. Not only that, by passing of that offensive talent, it went to other teams, and that will hurt twice as much. The PWHL draft is a zero sum game, and Minnesota's bungles are other team's gain.
      If you are a Toronto fan, this was fine and dandy, but for Minnesota fans, the middle of this draft was awful, and that has nothing to do with the Britta Curl situation that you have spend to much video time trying to address.
