My dad had one of these, bright yellow, body kit and all the bells and whistles. He maxed it at 151mph and it would slay any other car that challenged it. Bought it brand new in 2002 and kept it until 2016 when the clutch failed at 220k miles! Best car we ever had...
These cars won't do 151 mph, max speed is 142 mph. The Cupra R would get close to that though, at 150 mph.

And that's gps speed not speedometer.
Like owned a 2004 vauxhall zafira diesel, that ways it does around 105 and I got that to 124mph.

I'm a big fan of the earlier SEAT Models, the 90's to 2004 Models looked great
I still have a 1M with 1.9 TDI engine in 2022! The 1M was the best Leon!
I owned one of these for a couple of years. A 2001 model in the metallic blue with the electronic black leather seats. Loved driving it and was sad to sell it. Expensive running costs and high insurance sealed it's fate. Hardly had any problems with it, other than the leaky front door seals which used to let water into the front footwells. I imagine a decent one of these would make a cheapish track day car nowadays.

Ran one for 5 years in the mid 2000's. Uneventful but super reliable, never let me down once in 50k. 6 Speed gearbox was good. Was a better alternative the the Mk4 Golf Gti, and very much better looking.
Did 168k my first y reg Cupra, had it from new in 01, till I swapped it for a 05 mk1 Cupra R, in 2009. Had her tuned by Jabbasport at 30k, and never had an problems other than a couple of coil packs, a great car.
I wonder where that car is now in 2019

Thanos The Mad Titan yes a very well built car very cheap to buy one of the top 20 best engines ever made just be sure to keep it well maintained very fast with a few mods

@@NjoyMoney not really, Cupra has better acceleration, more bhp and higher top speed. Forget mapping/modifications, mine is an original untouched Cupra. Even has the original 6 CD radio in my car 😎
@@Birmingham_racing the fr had the same bhp as the cupra, just different wheels and the same bodykit as the face-lift cupra 180
When you start the car the sound is very similar to engine TDI, I listen a 1.8 Turbo STOCK and this is not the sound..... I'm crazy? i don't know.....
The 1.8T does sound a lot like diesel for the first minute or two when the secondary air pump and who knows what else is on. After that, all is well.
I have one but preferred my golf 1.8T
I'm looking to buy one of the two. Could you tell me why you preferred the golf?
For me the golf is a little to boxy. I prefer the back of this one

Fuzzy I've got Leon 1.9 ARL( 150hp). This is my first car. Awesome for young driver. Looks so nice and sth different from VAG GROUP :) Fuel compsumption around 7/100 ( aggresive driving)

@@AlonsitisDuff Es un 1.8 T (con el mismo motor), pero no es cupra. Cupra tenía 220cv, ese es el primer modelo que sacaron al cual después denominaron FR con una carrocería distinta.
@@alejandrogomezf6278 Estas equivocado. Ese era el cupra R. El cupra normal llevaba los paragolpes que llevaba el FR y menos potencia que el R. Este era el cupra original
@@AlonsitisDuff No es cupra, además lo estuve mirando hace poco para conseguir uno. Cupra sólo hubo 2 modelos en España. El Cupra R con el motor 1.8 Turbo de 220cv y el "Cupra 4" 2.8 de 204cv con tracción a las 4 ruedas.

Yes it is u nugget the early ones didn't have body kits and they didn't introduce the 225 bam engine in the Cupra till 2004
why are people so dumb lol.. first of all there is also a AMK engine from the cupra wich make 210bhp.

i drive a REAL cupra myself mate, and im a huge fan of these cars.
Not all cupras are the cupra r it's like the leon cupra cupra r and fr complete spo bam engine is the 225 auq is 210 215 amk 205-210

I just sold my one off these.... electrics are shite... and when it rains.... its like a swamp in there.. stinks off damp..... worst purchase ive ever had..... and trying to sell the fucker was a mission.... too juicy... no ones interested.........so flogged it for 600!!.... i would off taking less just to get rid... lol
Lol I have to agree I've had mine 4 years and had lots of common faults but they are easy to fix I love it allways puts a smile on my face😆
Yeah know what ya mean... i think the vag engines are great... easy tunable... to work on... blah blah.... its just what its been bolted into is the problem....
jamie rodgers Was it one from 1999-2001? Cause those ones were known for their bad electronics. The later ones build in 2002-2006 are VERY reliable.
I own a 2006 Leon 1m with 88.000km on it and it didn't had a single fault.
jamie rodgers one of the most wanted cars in finland. all sell very quickly.
My friends had one of these for last couple of years with no problems
