I landscaped for a few summers and we would go through a number of those diamond blades. Once they cracked, or started cutting slowly they were finished. I bet there were thousands of diamonds left. I think I recall the blades being something like $400-500 for a 13" blade and maybe $700-800 for the 18" blade and they were literally thrown out when they were finished. If you went up to a construction crew or landscaping crew asking for some broken blades I bet you could harvest a ton of diamonds and find a use for them. Maybe make another home made ring with small diamonds embedded in it. Just give it a little sparkle. That would be really cool.
Those blades are actually very cheap. You can buy a 14" diamond blade at your local orange box for ~$100. They are industrial diamonds, so really not worth much.

Nice! for sure that is diamond! You are right the diamonds don't wear out, the bonding metals wears out and lets go of the diamond first. Same goes for cubic boron (CBN). Warning do not make the GF an engagement ring from diamonds you salvaged from the road side! No matter how 'cool' they are there is something that De Beers has programmed into women that makes them want a 'real' one. Note... I'm not married. Real diamonds be damned.
that's fricking sweet! such a cool idea, I'm so glad and surprised you found two, I would've thought you would need to collect much more of the dust from a much longer span of the cut to actually nab one or two ! I guess they come out much more frequently. thanks Cody!
Cool! Never knew industrial diamonds were a thing! I mean I always figured there ought to be something useful about diamonds besides just looking really cool. I like how you have ideas and wonder about things and just go out and answer your own questions! I’d like to be able to do what you do some day
Hi folks, here's a quick PSA, *earth diamonds are a scam* While yes, diamonds are rare (as in clear large gems you'd use on a ring) the price is driven up significantly due to the relative monopoly on diamonds. Get fake diamond, cant tell the difference from the naked eye, save yourself a few thousand, and you'll have one unhappy lady when she goes to sell the ring if the marriage goes south!
@@local.gay.writer they're not rare relative to other gemstones perhaps but clear gemstone quality diamonds are still rare. There is a kernel of truth that there is the aspect of artificial scarcity with diamonds with a few large companies having a near monopoly on their sale this does not mean that they're worthless or common. It's not like quartz lol. Also after (iirc) 2008 we passed the peak of diamond mining so since then fewer and fewer diamonds get mined per year so artificial scarcity will eventually become real scarcity.
@@Trollogrefey "so artificial scarcity will eventually become real scarcity." Well, scarcity of natural diamonds maybe, but only fools with too much money would prefer those over artificial (and perfect) diamonds.
@@gerardvanwilgen9917 Not really, if you can just make a billion of something then it has very little value as the more you make of something the less value the individual product has. In essence the natural diamonds will always be more desirable than manmade since there is no value to be had in an indefinitely manufacturable product whose main value comes from its scarcity.
I remember reading something a guy doing this on the streets of LA but for lost jewellery diamonds, I thought if you had a strong backpack vacuum cleaner you'd probably pick up a few.. and a lot of crud xD
+Eppiox I knew this video was making me remember something I had seen before. It was NY City, you can search for "Man Makes $300 A Day Finding Gold Diamonds On The Streets Of NY" to see an upload from the TV show.
+Pyrohawk I am not saying he is not smart but really this is nothing that great. The diamonds he got from it are just about worth nothing. maybe like .000001 or less of a cent worth of diamonds as theses are man made for the reason of making diamond blades. More like the video shows what is used to cut really hard surfaces for people that did not know.
I was a concrete cutter for 14 years and never once thought, where did the diamonds go haha. the simple answer is who cares, until now. A saw blade has approximately 20 tooth segments costing around $10NZD each, and each segment contains between 200 to 300 hundred diamonds, hence why nobody tries to cover them. The mud/dust is called slurry and has a ph of around 12.5 and once dry the dust should not be inhaled due to the silica, which with long-term exposure can lead to siliceous. This is a great video and if I was still cutting I would also try and recover some diamonds just for the fun factor.
That's cool Cody! And it is good practice for finding them in nature, even though both the diamond and diopsite caught my eye in the classifier. Keep making these great videos
+saralizzy1981 I think it's because he is heating up a small material and it makes it less dense. For example lava lamps, the cooler lave sinks to the bottom and the hotter lava floats to the top
hes doing that by heating the particle and causing the water around it to heat-up and rise. the particle then gets caried in the stream. if you would use a larger thing like a wood marble(that sinks) you could stear it around with the laser.
***** I don't like any of this, something feels wrong. After decades struggling, wonder why UN never throws away their dicktators. I don't like the world being held by one hand. The old always warned us about giving too much power to one single organization.
Douglas Aranda the smartest thing they did, its evil too but they brainwashed the entire world into beliving that you need a diamond ring for marriage also that there is a diamond shortage LOL
***** It's hard to trust these days. Our rights are taken a piece at a time on behalf of our "well being" and "security". The governments from last decades are being puppets not only to UN but to lobbyists and corporations and Banks, I am Brazilian and the last man which spoke against those things died from a very suspicious cancer and the last USA's president to talk against them was John F. Kennedy and even Eisenhower warned the world about giving them power... Today, many right or left, liberals, conservatives, if not all, are on the same side... And I care because the world cannot allow some organization to own their lives in order to have freedom, and to assure their rights are respected, also because USA's policies affects the whole planet!
after watching all of your videos, i have just one thing to say: you my man... are a maniac with a camera and a youtube acc... and i love you for it :)
Even if you were doing it for money, I wouldn't blame you. It's not like this is easy work, and people who spend a lot of money on diamonds are suckers anyway in my opinion.
***** But they're literally the same material. They are chemically identical. I'm not spending several thousand dollars for a rock when I can buy the same exact rock for less, just because a human made it
***** Right but like, we can make more synthetically. And they are chemically identical. And they look the same. And they're still a worthless clear rock that doesn't look nearly as beautiful as cheaper stones.
in my adventures i have been told by many wise men that to catch diamonds in any prospecting operation the use of a grease tray is a must the diamonds will stick to it under flowing water where the rest will wash off the grease. maybe a trest you can do too confirm this method. love the videos keep them coming
Artificial usually implies a different material is being used. Artificial diamonds are cubic zirconium or glass diamonds. Industrial ones are chemically the same as true diamonds, and are cheaper to produce small ones like that. They have less flaws than natural ones.
I really like your videos.....You tell us how you do it.....without all the crap in between. Short sweet and to the point. Thanks. Was wondering if you can do a video of extracting gold from old computer parts. I'm not a tech. or computer guy. I'm a plumber, ya gotta show me.
Nothing worth the time and money to do this. Good thing he gets money from youtube. Those diamonds he got are worth next to nothing. Saw diamonds are worthless
Cutting expansion joints after pouring concrete has been deemed financially more efficient than form pouring them, as was commonly done in the past. Green concrete cuts pretty easily. Best comment ever. You made my day.
if i am right i think he learned most of this stuff from his father
you do realize "this guy" probably knows a lot more about chemistry than you do
vxnt i think his talking about how much he learned from school and so as a resault this guy is able to do all of this. its not a negative comment its more of a complement
Roozbeh Kasila thanks, that makes more sense
Nice! for sure that is diamond! You are right the diamonds don't wear out, the bonding metals wears out and lets go of the diamond first. Same goes for cubic boron (CBN). Warning do not make the GF an engagement ring from diamonds you salvaged from the road side! No matter how 'cool' they are there is something that De Beers has programmed into women that makes them want a
'real' one.
Note... I'm not married. Real diamonds be damned.
my right ear loved this video
DirtTrackGaming its just fine. probably your headphones
i relised that the day i posted the comment XD
DirtTrackGaming lol
Mine was left ear, and my headphones are fine.
Yep, you can hear him talking in the beginning of the video way more in the left speaker, and Mr.DirtTrackGaming is using his headphones inverted.
that's fricking sweet! such a cool idea, I'm so glad and surprised you found two, I would've thought you would need to collect much more of the dust from a much longer span of the cut to actually nab one or two ! I guess they come out much more frequently. thanks Cody!
Cool! Never knew industrial diamonds were a thing! I mean I always figured there ought to be something useful about diamonds besides just looking really cool. I like how you have ideas and wonder about things and just go out and answer your own questions! I’d like to be able to do what you do some day
Hi folks, here's a quick PSA, *earth diamonds are a scam*
While yes, diamonds are rare (as in clear large gems you'd use on a ring) the price is driven up significantly due to the relative monopoly on diamonds.
Get fake diamond, cant tell the difference from the naked eye, save yourself a few thousand, and you'll have one unhappy lady when she goes to sell the ring if the marriage goes south!
They aren't rare, just one company decided to buy most of them, making them go up in price due to less being available for other use!
@@Trollogrefey "so artificial scarcity will eventually become real scarcity."
Well, scarcity of natural diamonds maybe, but only fools with too much money would prefer those over artificial (and perfect) diamonds.
@@Trollogrefey That is why I used the word "fool". No sensible person considers something valuable just because it is rare.
you found yellow diamonds... WE, ARE THE CRYSTAL GEMS, WE'LL ALWAYS SAVE THE DAY.
WHAT WE REALLY ARE
ß
ß's everywhere
Wonderful comment.
+Pearl xD
I remember reading something a guy doing this on the streets of LA but for lost jewellery diamonds, I thought if you had a strong backpack vacuum cleaner you'd probably pick up a few.. and a lot of crud xD
+Eppiox I knew this video was making me remember something I had seen before. It was NY City, you can search for "Man Makes $300 A Day Finding Gold Diamonds On The Streets Of NY" to see an upload from the TV show.
+Eppiox Cody found these because they were working with diamond saws, how did the guy in new york know where to sweep?
+blazednlovinit or LA* or wherever it was :)
***** nice :) You gotta admire the resourcefulness there
+Eppiox Great idea to keeps the streets clean, just sprinkle a few diamonds here and there. hehe
Greetings from New Mexico
This was most facinating, truly enjoyed it.
pierre
dude, you are seriously amazing. Thanks for all the science!!! love it
Finding diamonds in the road.....yup this is a codyslab video
really cool videos. subbed.
dude, you're a genius, wow... just the idea of this.. rofl
+Dave Zoll (Ogre) its still cool
Yepperz Never said it wasn't but genius far from it.
Dave Zoll yepperz
With the curiosity and the scientific thought processes this young man possesses he will go FAR in his life!
Behold! Yellow Diamond!
smol and synthetic ruler
YOU CLOD
All of your clods get it. Lol
My name is also cody haha i really enjoy these videos man!!!!!
Cash Cody SAME!!!
Not same...
my name is jeff.
Mauro Molinero lol omg
Are you a geologist?
+Pavel Medbery yup he's geologist major in Utah university!
+David MuscleGuy i thought he was a physics major
Nope he's a badass
+Jake Mawachamacallit amen to that
That's cool Cody! And it is good practice for finding them in nature, even though both the diamond and diopsite caught my eye in the classifier. Keep making these great videos
It's so cool that you watch Xisuma, you two are my favorite youtubers
this is a good as the guy getting gold out of bags of play sand
No? Nobody's going to ask about what was going on at the end of that video? Just me... okay...
+Andrew Bethel (Don'tFeedtheTrolls) I was wondering the same thing. A laser? Making tiny things float??
+saralizzy1981 I think it's because he is heating up a small material and it makes it less dense. For example lava lamps, the cooler lave sinks to the bottom and the hotter lava floats to the top
hes doing that by heating the particle and causing the water around it to heat-up and rise. the particle then gets caried in the stream. if you would use a larger thing like a wood marble(that sinks) you could stear it around with the laser.
Next pass: Send it to an ultra-high pressure machine cooking it for days with Carbon
but diamonds are worthless, the reason they have value is the whole monopoly that a few rich guys have, google the african diamond conspiracy
Douglas Aranda have you heard about the heart attack gun, the CIA created in the 1970s it is basically a gun that kills and shows no bullet wound
I became soooo excited when I saw those yellow diamonds through the lens
This was amazing
after watching all of your videos, i have just one thing to say: you my man... are a maniac with a camera and a youtube acc... and i love you for it :)
XKCD Shirt?!?!
Even if you were doing it for money, I wouldn't blame you. It's not like this is easy work, and people who spend a lot of money on diamonds are suckers anyway in my opinion.
*****
But they're literally the same material. They are chemically identical. I'm not spending several thousand dollars for a rock when I can buy the same exact rock for less, just because a human made it
NOVA Akuma nothing can justify the price tag of natural diamonds. They're actually quite common.
*****
Right but like, we can make more synthetically. And they are chemically identical. And they look the same. And they're still a worthless clear rock that doesn't look nearly as beautiful as cheaper stones.
NOVA Akuma that is quite likely, but they're still worthless.
The structure of natural diamonds is a lot finer.
You should have implanted the two diamonds in the engagement ring!
orochimarujes haha
Both of your comments really made my day, have a chemistry big test tomorrow XD Codys vids made it much more human friendly XP
Why not just get her a sawblade to wear around her finger? Way more diamonds than any other girl has around her finger
You're just one of the best humans ever. Love you bro
in my adventures i have been told by many wise men that to catch diamonds in any prospecting operation the use of a grease tray is a must the diamonds will stick to it under flowing water where the rest will wash off the grease. maybe a trest you can do too confirm this method. love the videos keep them coming
Ha ha, the old health and safety police must have crapped themselves when Cody drank cyanide.
industrial diamonds are artificial aren't they?
+wrt 142 "Synthetic" = artificial (when referring to metals and or other artificial materials" so your comment, sir, could've just been a yes.
No they use "synthetic" diamonds which means they were made, not dug out of the ground.
1019wc1019
... so, artificial diamonds
Artificial usually implies a different material is being used. Artificial diamonds are cubic zirconium or glass diamonds. Industrial ones are chemically the same as true diamonds, and are cheaper to produce small ones like that. They have less flaws than natural ones.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synthetic_diamond
Hey Cody, what does 'gm/cc' mean?
+MineFish
grams per cubic centimeter...
thanks ;)
Ever heard of Google?
When Cody says it, it's way more interesting. And YES i've heard of google, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to go to youtube
MineFish
I am happy that whatever I need to know is available in your channel.
I really like your videos.....You tell us how you do it.....without all the crap in between. Short sweet and to the point. Thanks. Was wondering if you can do a video of extracting gold from old computer parts. I'm not a tech. or computer guy. I'm a plumber, ya gotta show me.
12 year olds be like " make a pick!!11!!1"
Totally fake, you need to dig fown atleast 60 blocks
WeRbananas btw u need 3 not to oh and I am,12 and play fortnite and gta5 so u can shut up
that was the cringiest shit I've ever read.
I swear boy, your going to end up with a skeletor face if you keep playing with acid like this! ;)
ok
Wow much Dimond.
+jocke jonasson 6³
Nothing worth the time and money to do this. Good thing he gets money from youtube. Those diamonds he got are worth next to nothing. Saw diamonds are worthless
jocke jonasson HA youre funny. Check your spelling bud
TheCambobsherwood Check your spelling before you call someone else retarded, Dim wit.
jocke jonasson You may want to check your spelling dimwit is one word not two :)
You are rekindling our Spirit to Science more !! Thank you
That is a very interesting adventure in prospecting and refining; and this is a very interesting channel.
5:07 xkcd t-shirt
I'm not surprised at all
I can't believe I missed that xD
Could've you actually made money out of this? Like, you could've taken a couple full bags of that dust, and make some money, if possible :P
+Damjan Lakic Not at all. The gem he found was essentially worthless. WAY too small.
But I'm thinking if he took A LOT of those bags. A LOT. What then?
Damjan Lakic He would need like 10,000 bags.
+shocktop .. to make 20$ lol
Industrial diamonds aren't worth much at all
Your audio hurts my ears.
Cutting expansion joints after pouring concrete has been deemed financially more efficient than form pouring them, as was commonly done in the past. Green concrete cuts pretty easily. You could probably go sweep up after cutting expansions in parking garages, buildings, etc. If I were running the job, so long as you had the right boots, eye protection, and a hard hat, I usually don't care.
Any time a video starts with Cody in the middle of the road at 2am, you know its gonna be good.
