My 58 Hakka comes in at 17.9 pounds with pedals (XTR) and 2 cages (Elite Custom Race Plus). Ian byrd there helped me build it. I run a 1x Dura-Ace groupset with XTR rear mech and XTR cassette using Wolftooth’s Tanpan and 1x Chainring components, giving me a low profile crank feel. I run all Enve components, with Enve SES 3.4 AR wheels rebuilt with Chris King R45D hubs. Enve Bars/Stem/Post/Fork. All Chris King bearing components. The bike came in at $11k when I was done with it. I run Pirelli Cinturato-M 35’s. The bike is a rocketship. I ride mostly adventure/singletrack gravel on it and basically ride the same XC trails I ride my hardtail mtb on. My rides are 30% gravel/70% singletrack - I ride the bike hard. LOVE LOVE LOVE this bike and Ian and CC for setting me up with this whip!
I'm running 45c Pirelli Cinturato RC on 700c 9Velo wheels with a 26mm internal rim width. The tires measure out to 48.6mm and there's just barely enough clearance around the BB junction. So the 40c tire clearance is a very conservative number. Also, this bike has an old school cross oriented geometry so if you're looking for something more responsive in that way, you'll like this more than the new Stigmata, which has a much slacker front end and takes a lot of design cues from modern mountain bikes. I would say this frame is much closer to a Specialized Crux than anything else. Also, the newer frames (2023 and onwards) are no longer 2x mechanical compatible because the front derailleur cable hole isn't drilled out behind the seattube/bb junction. That's the only change made to the frame. So if you buy one of these used and want to run 2x, a steady hand and a sharp drill bit will be your friend.
Good video, I'm between the Hakka MX Rival AXS 2024 Ibis, the Headlands 2 2024 Marin and the Cutthroat C Rival GX AXS Transmission 2024 Salsa, for you of these bikes which would be the most versatile and comfortable and of better quality
How does it compare to the santa cruz stigmata? Do you think ibis makes better frames? Its a shame both are made in china. However still considering both haha
Nice review! Is the stock seating position very aero or more upright. I’m 5’8” with a 29-30” inseam and unsure if I’d take a 53 or 55cm to be more upright. I’m usually a 54cm so these odd frame sizes cause a bit of an issue.
I have a similar proportion. I want to have more agility and I had to bring the saddle to the front on most medium frames, so leaning towards 53. Did you end up getting this?
I noticed that on this Hakka the seat stays are placed lower on the seat tube (ie further down from the top tube) -- does anyone know if this is an earlier or later model Hakka?
It really just depends, if you are going to be on road only then you might just want to get a road bike, if you are planning on taking dirt trails though a gravel bike can be fun, plus gravel bikes are still plenty quick and stable on the road
Hi there. Watching the video I wanted to ask what your opinion is on the frame size. I have a 53 cm but I'm considering that a size 55 cm would be better because I think it might fit me more comfortably. And it caught my attention that the size Ian uses in the video is 53 cm but he seems tall. Following Ibis's recommendations on his page, I would be a size 55 cm but I wanted to check if Ian has any opinion about it. Thanks! My measurements are as follows: Height 179 cm; Sternal Notch 149 cm; Torso Length 61 cm; Leg Length 83 cm; Thigh Length 60 cm; Lower Leg Length 54 cm; Arm Length 70 cm.
Yes, small headtube. Also, I noticed that on this Hakka model the seat stays are placed lower on the seat tube -- their current model's seat stays extend to the top of the seat tube, and have normal size headtube. You don't like the style of horizontal top tube or is is bad for performance?
3-years into ownership and it’s my favorite bike I’ve ever owned. Responsive yet stable.

I am running my Ibis Hakka with ICAN Cycling G25 650B carbon wheels with the WTB Resolute 42mm tubeless tires. Fantastic CX/gravel bike.
650b x 2.1 is my go to
I love my 22 Hakka in Charcoal. Insane!
I run both 650 and 700 depending on my mood.
Same.

Me too-looking at both bikes. I can say having a n SC Tallboy 4, the build quality is awesome and Santa Cruz’s customer service is second to none!
How do we reach out to a gear head about which gravel bike might be best for my geometry?

Hey! Please call or chat in to speak to one of our knowledgeable Gearheads about choosing the right size Hakka!

Yes 53 is perfect size which is what I got-love the bike!

It's a size specific thing. 49cm and 53cm have dropped stays.
@@competitivecyclist ok, thanks for letting me know
would this make a good commuter bike? Looking at carbon hybrid bikes and wondering if a gravel bike would be better.

Has anybody here tried to set this frame up with a flat bar setup? Any thoughts on this idea? Anything I might wanna watch out for if I give it a try?

i am 5'9" and own a hakka in size 55. if i could go back in time i would have got 53 instead. the 55 is pretty big.
Dropper post?
It's compatible!
I've noticed that some have dropped seat stays and some don't.
An ugly bike with its midget headtube and horizontal top tube. Like one of those early 1990-iets monstrosities.
