      The Bottleholders are a bit...unspectecular and don't look particularly secure either. How about some magnetic Fidlock holders? You'll never lose a bottle and they are delightfully cool and gimicky as well!

      Should’ve put an XX1 Eagle AXS Eagle Derailleur and cassette. Atm the a 10/33 cassette it’s got neither good climbing or fast flat gears and without a clutch the chain is wobbling around and bound to fall off.

      @Matthew Loveridge it's been a year or so... How's it holding up? Are you still riding? I'm still debating because the 31.6mm seatpost and the amount exposed... Do you think I could put a shim by cane creek to have 27.2mm seatpost? Strange they have such a thick post.

    I think you should have gone with a 40 or 42 tooth chainring instead of the 34 and an eagle 10-50 cassette and derailleur so you could have the same easy gear as you do now and a much heavier sprinting gear so that it could keep up a little bit better on the road since it seems like more of an all-road bike, with those gravel king sk tires, and not a pure gravel bike

    Nice total wt. and build aesthetic. For gravel, I am starting a build with sub 1500 grams wheels from Hunt, likely the 2x GRX group, cable, not DI2. Hoping to go below 19lbs., and keep the rear cluster smallish and close together with the front 48/31t. 43mm seems and nice tire width and Panaracer is sure popular...if only it came with all black sidewalls! Very good description.

  • @cup_and_cone
    @cup_and_cone 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    At first I was confused why Jenson would do a UK media sponsorship, because the bike market (even outside the Shimano world) favors insane mark-up in the North American market vs the rival EU market, then I realized BikeRadar probably has a massive North American audience that gets stuck with no real retailer alternatives.

  • @mikewadley
    @mikewadley 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I would have gone with a AXS Eagle rear derailleur and a larger cassette. That would have allowed you to use a larger front oval ring to improve climbing and top end speed.

      I'm pretty sure you will. My oneby gravelbike has a 42 tooth chainring and a 10-42 cassette. And it spins out at about 40 kph. That's with a proper tailwind, so not very often. With a 34 I'm sure it happens a lot more often.

      Spin out at 40 ?! What sort of cadence do you ride at?
      I run a 34t chainring and a 10-50 cassette on my mountain bike and I’m perfectly comfortable cruising behind roadies at 42 kph. I spin. out at about 50.

    • @grvl307

    • @dannybeeh6332
      @dannybeeh6332 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      René Wondergem
      Above 100 is spinning out ?! You need a big chainring. You grind mate. Most pros average about 105 over a race and some even do 110 +. I spin out at 140.

    • @grvl307
      @grvl307 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dannybeeh6332 that's simply not true. Under 80 is grinding. 80-100 is scientifically accepted as normal cadence. My optimal cadence is 92-96. Heart rate stays lowest at peak power. Track riders sprint at 120+ I start bouncing up and down my saddle above 105.

  • @gabrielrivest3872
    @gabrielrivest3872 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    What I would change? Gearing which leads to entire groupo switch. For real gravel grinding you need 40t or 42t chainring in order to push on the flats and long descents (40km/h) and you still need the 1:1 ratio to climb which means 40 or 42 cassette which is not possible with Sram Red... Best option: Brand new Shimano GRX DI2 with long cage clutch rear derailleur plus 1x 42T chainring and 11-42 cassette.

      @@joachimmacdonald2702 I guess. But I also think the seatpost is way too far into the frame. Ah well. Still would like a bike like this 😄😅

    17 lb final weight??? hell no too light for me. I'd spin the rear tire all over the place. I've got a Specialized AWOL with 2.2 tires on it and chro-moly and roughly 25 lbs and is perfect.
    great build bike looks sic

    A bit late to the game, but I’d go with a 10-50 mountain cassette and a 42 oval absolute black chainring and salsa carbon wood chipper bars. Finish it of with crank brothers candy 11 peddles

    I'd have gone with Di2 shifters with a XTR rear mech so I can have a massive range cassette. 11-46 and a 40t chainring sounds perfect to me.

    I would have bought instead a open u.p.p.e.r. frame with 1x11 setup. 42 chainring and 9-46 e13 cassette

    So 43mm wide tires, the spec for the bike says 40mm clearance. Hmmm

    Very nice but that bar tape is nasty looking! Like a leather sofa in a brothel.

    Mechanical & use the extra shifter as a trigger for a dropper

      Etap uses both shifters so that wouldn't work.

      RockShox reverb now has a etap axs dropper post. Programmable.

    I reckon your stainless bottle holders probably pretty much doubled the weight of that build!
