How to Install an Injen Intake/0-60! (2013-2019 Nissan Sentra)

  • In this video, I show how to install an Injen short ram intake on my 2014 Nissan Sentra with a few revs and a 0-60 at the end. This intake should fit on all 2013-2019 Sentras with the 1.8L (MRA8DE) engine, whether CVT or manual.
    *FYI, I don't say this in the video, but make sure the bottom of the filter is about a 1/2 inch to 3/4 of an inch (about an index finger width) from the top of the fuse box. Reason being is so the filter isn't hitting the fuse box or bottom of the hood (thus causing a rather annoying sound) while the vehicle is in operation.
    Video Contents:
    Installation: 1:23
    Sound Clips: 7:50
    0-60 w/ only Injen Intake: 8:16
    Link for Injen Intake:
    www.carid.com/...
    According to the link, this intake now costs around $270. Granted when I bought it, it cost around $240 but I still believe this intake is worth the price. (Also, there are other links out there that sell the same intake for less, just Google search)... *UPDATE (9/10/17): I just found out that the Injen intake is now priced at about $230 on the website. Also, there is a true cold air intake from AEM now available for the 1.8L B17 Sentras! Who knows, I might just buy it and do an install video on it..
    Injen Intake Pros: Reasonably priced, looks great in engine bay, sounds great under acceleration, has reusable and durable air filter which doesn't require any oil and very easy to clean, intake very easy to install, personally noticed better throttle response and a bit better acceleration (so a bit more horsepower).
    Cons: Personally noticed absolutely NO change in gas mileage whatsoever. (If driving conservatively, however, a slight gas mileage increase should be possible.)
    *Note: Before I installed the intake, I was averaging 27.2 mpg. In the 0-60 clip at the end, it shows 28.9 mpg. Since then, I drove around 5,000 miles and the mpg returned back down to 27.2 and has stayed there since...
    My verdict: Despite not seeing a gas mileage increase, the Injen intake is still worth the price because it's made well, looks and sounds good, improves performance, and NEVER needs the air filter replaced..

    When you accelerate don't just hold the pedal on the floor, when it gets close to redline back off the gas and let it "shift" then get back on the gas. Much quicker acceleration that way

      Ricardo Vargas it still pretends to shift like a Normal transmission and if you don't back off the gas and let it then it is just reving too high

    • @anthonymonarrez5866
      @anthonymonarrez5866 6 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      DeeMeech I know exactly how a cvt works. I said "shift" in quotes because I know it technically doesn't shift but it mimics a shift. You can't just keep burning the rmps at 6k you have to let it shift using the artificial shift points that sport mode sets. I think you should learn about the 2014 sentra and how it operates before you start being a jerk on the Internet to people smarter than you.

      I doubt about having any performance improvement since most of these Sentra use CVT transmission; i actually own a 2010 Sentra and honestly, i expected better gas mileage AT LEAST. Before this, i had a 1999 Mitsubishi Galant 3.0 V6 24V with a 4 speed automatic transmission that used to make 22+ mpg city; this sentra now, it's a slug when you accelerate and a slug when you accelerate normally too, and it makes less than 12 mpg during a normal acceleration; if i floor it from a full stop it makes 4 mpg. I'm considering changing that air filter to put on an inbox K&N filter (actually about 60 bucks the filter alone); and change something on the exhaust pipe too (not to make it louder but i will at least use high performance silencer, with a larger output).

    late comment but does this apply to the NISMO addition as well? I just bought a sentra nismo as a fun on the side car and was seeing if the aftermarket parts are the same across the board for all Sentra trim levels of this year.

    • @itsjosh1672
      @itsjosh1672 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you think it would apply with a 2016 Nissan Sentra sport? Don’t really know much about all this lol

    • @marioaguirre7193
      @marioaguirre7193 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think if power is what you're looking for, you might wanna try a remap. If O can recall correctly, the Nismo has somewhere around 185 HP? With the remap you could go 200+. Don't remember the torque figure, tho.
      Even so, there should be intake kits for that engine, too.

    hey! nice guide you got here. i'm thinking of modding my intake, which one do you think is better. this injen intake or the k&n intake? and will this affect the warranty of the car? thanks

    • @NismoNate90
      @NismoNate90  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the feedback! I prefer my Injen intake over the K&N for several reasons. First, it costs a bit less than the K&N. Second, it looks better IMO. Third, the Injen uses a reusable filter that doesn't require any oil while the K&N does. Fourth, Injen claims more of a performance/horsepower increase over the K&N as well. Not saying the K&N intake is bad, it just comes down to personal preference.. As far as warranty, I've been taking my car into the dealership with both my intake and pulley on and have not had any issues regarding my warranty. Hope this helps!

    • @ericbuton478
      @ericbuton478 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NismoNate90 okay, i gotchu. injen does looks better than the k&n brand. one more thing, i noticed from your sound clip and from other videos with injen intake as well that once it reaches 60mph theres this vibrating sound. i dont know if its because of the intake or im just hearing something else. is it stable enough not to vibrate? thanks

    • @NismoNate90
      @NismoNate90  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as the intake is installed correctly, vibration should not be an issue. As far as the sound you heard in the background, I tend to have my garage door opener in the opening between the shifter and cup holders, which explains that rattling sound, lol..

    CVT's Suck and waste gas and create wear on the engine. I got a 2016 all black, Manual Trans. the Air boxes on these cars suck too, my Driver side headlight Circut went out and i bought this car with 0 miles i replaced the clutch master cylinder twice in a year and it vibrated on acceleration due to a broken air box clip. They suck to work on, no engine room. I wish i woulda got a Toyota Camry.

    Why did you put a cold air intake on a NA motor? The power added would be like 2hp at best. Even on a forced induction motor it is still around 5-10 if your lucky. Also, that is not a cold air intake anyway. You are still drawing in air from the hot engine bay... You probably lost power.
