I think the way Zhongli speaks would be a closer equivalent to Shakespeare English. Azhdaha’s theme song uses an even older version of Chinese, with a lot of the characters being rarely used in modern Chinese
@ConfinedBinary very little. Traditional and simplified chinese only different in how to write them. The grammar, the pronunciation is basically the same.
@ConfinedBinary Even the traditional Chinese used by Taiwan is impossible to understand this lyrics.Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese are almost the same in speaking and hearing. There are some different in writing. What is to notice that this two versions langguage's grammer comply with one common regular or law
@ConfinedBinary FYI, for some weird reason the lyrics are actually written in a mix of Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese... Just a few examples in the lyrics: 违(Simplified Chinese) 違(Traditional Chinese) 国(Simplified Chinese) 國(Traditional Chinese) 万(Simplified Chinese) 萬(Traditional Chinese) 庐(Simplified Chinese) 廬(Traditional Chinese) The thing is, most native Chinese readers wouldn't identify the difference right away when a Simplified Chinese character slips into a Traditional Chinese script and vice versa, because the 'patterns' that form a Chinese character is still there.
As a native speaker, I can tell you that the lyrics in the music is extremely hard to understand if you don't study classical chinese.(sorry for bad grammar)
Looking at the translations compared to the original lyrics, good luck trying to dub through this whole song cause it'll be impossible to sing through all that without breaking the flow.

This is ancient Chinese from one of the warring kingdoms. Very hard if not nearly impossible to understand by majority of Chinese speakers. Just imagine trying to understand old English or German, for instance.
Actually given the lyrics Chinese can understand the meaning of this song, i think most of them are knowledge from our high school and everyone learns.
As a Chinese, thank you for putting the English subtitles, otherwise, I can't understand what the lyrics are saying. (Also the pinyin, I can say I'm confused by 70% of the words, I have no idea how to pronounce them)

Thanks for watching. you can use it anyway you like but you don't have to add my name since the translations are from the Official itself. (except Thai)
I was confused… Why there are so many Chinese completely don’t understand it? I think if you were born and raised in China and have completed the middle school here with paying attention to the classical Chinese lesson, it’s ok for you to understand like 50% of its meaning at least. The grammar is all taught on the class and the other 0%-50% difficulties are just ancient words we don’t used any more, if you check on dictionary it is not that hard.
Being able to read 50% of the characters doesn't necessarily mean being able to understand 50% of the whole thing. Sometimes one can know all the characters, but still won't be able to make sense of the sentence. I, for example, couldn't understand the line "审行迷延伫远兮" even though I know all but one of the characters. But then again, I didn't grow up in China, and I guess most of the people on YT didn't either. In my school (my school days are quite distant so take this with a grain of salt), only about 50% of the Chinese students stayed for Chinese language lessons in secondary education, and out of those 50%, maybe 25% or less actually show enough interest to even attempt to make sense of the classical texts. Outside the Greater China, there simply isn't that many people who can understand or even care to understand it.
@@williammj Thank you for your reply. I understand people weren’t born and raised in China don’t understand it. In my previous statement, I emphasized that I was only discussing about people who were born and raised in China and finished the middle school, if there are anything ambiguous caused by my poor English and made you confused, I apologize for it. And about the 50% I stated is about understand 50% of the meaning, not knowing 50% of the characters(if a local Chinese has graduated from a local middle school and studied through the lesson, then this person will know far more than 50% of the characters in this lyrics). Again, I understand people outside China has no need to understand it, and only a few people are interested in it, but I actually didn’t talking about this. What made me confused is that our middle school textbook actually has a specific part about 楚辞 not only for the characters which some of them is not very common now, but also for the grammar system and the structure of it, and this part is compulsory for every students. So at least for me who is majored in physics and didn’t learn classic Chinese since graduated from middle school can understand most of it(And I have failed the classical Chinese exam once😂). But I saw a lot of comments state that they were born and raised in China but do not know anything about it(not know only part of it/know half of it, is know nothing about it, this is the thing which I was confused). Thank you for your reading and previous reply!
@@tongyangwu966 Don't worry too much about it. Compared to the classical texts that I studied in school, your comment was much less ambiguous in comparison. I was just trying to suggest that maybe those people who said they understood nothing didn't grow up in China, but since the comments you read said otherwise, then I stand corrected. Maybe they were just exaggerating? Who knows? Or perhaps it's the fact that most people tend to shy away from things that they think are difficult, while in reality they might not have to struggle much if they just tried. Once one has convinced oneself that something can't be done, it will become difficult. I think the saying "相由心生" fits pretty well in those cases? Hope I'm not using it wrong.
