I prefer Rage Beneath the Mountains but both are amazing pieces of music
My favorite part is Rage Beneath the Mountains, however, I think together are a excellent masterpiece, that has to be listened one after the other because represents both parts of the battle the first one meeting for the first time to Azhdaha, the second one when he its getting stronger and the battle is more chaotic.
Rage Beneath the Mountains is my favorite Genshin track !
Both are great, but Rage Beneath the Mountains has it's drop just happen to coincide with the cool part in the game for most people (not speed runners)
Pure music-wise I prefer Ode to Azhdaha,
but Rage Beneath the Mountains becomes even better when some of the best leitmotifs of the game's soundtrack crop up
The best part of Genshin music is that you get different regional influences for each in-game region. This particular boss fight theme is in a region that in influenced by ancient chinese cluture and so you have bits of chinese instruments in there.

For the Scaramouche battle theme the lyrics are mainly Latin but with a couple lines of Japanese as well
Enkanomya is the only one with no regional theme . It's just a lost place with forgotten past.

Yu-Peng Chen is the lead composer for all Genshin Impact OST. I think he's doing something amazing with Genshin's music. All of his work combined feels like the next evolution of what a live music is capable of. I would love the opportunity to hear these OSTs in a concert hall. I have the feeling that would be an experience I would never forget. I have only been listening to Genshin's music for a little over a year, but it feels so nostalgic like I have been listening to it my whole life.
Also, I think Die Mittsommernacht-Fantasie has to be one of my favorites. It really is something special.

It's the voice in the music, which isn't always a human singing. Voice in music often refers to the main melodic instrument, which in this song is the Erhu!
He may have meant it literally, but either way he was actually correct to call it the voice there

This is the one that blows everyone's minds, and one of my favorite pieces to watch various youtubers react to. Literally no one expects it to go the way it does and man does it hit hard

The "voice" sounds like a keyboard because it's not actually a voice, but a traditional Chinese string instrument, I think it's called 'erhu'
14:24 This theme is for a boss battle with an old dragon created from rocks and crystals from a region that is based on ancient China, who was sealed for thousands of years due to him losing his mind (eroded). He used to protect the region and devoted himself to the person who ended up sealing them after he lost his mind and caused chaos to the region instead. That's why the title is called rage beneath the mountains :)
Genshin impact have a lot of marvelous Boss-Themes, my fav are Caelestinum Finale Termini (Dvalin's Theme), Symphony of Boreal Wind (Boreas's Theme), La Signora Theme (part 1 and 2), Tartaglia theme (part 1 and 2). And apart from that is the music of the rest of the game, there's a lot to choose from. I admire a lot to Yu-Peng Chen and the Hoyo-Mix team, they give us so many beautiful pieces so far.
Don't forget about Raiden's theme
It's a shame it's not the full version, but that doesn't hurt, the climax isn't missing. What's missing is an orchestral prelude to the beginning. It's very big, evil, epic like the classical Godzilla. (from Translation software)

Genshin music is great. Not just the hype boss music, but the great ost when you visit a new city like Port Ormos, or the character themes. The variety is huge and are a blessing for my ears.
Imagine, Genshin having such great music but has never been nominated for Best Music in the Video Game Awards. It's a travesty.

When does this theme play in the game? You are fighting a giant dragon that you end up learning (after the fight) is a fallen hero from hundred years ago, which imo makes this song hit harder when you rematch him.
I’ve noticed Yu-peng Chen loves putting triplets into the battle themes.
Rewinds are no problem for me. I’m here to watch a musical analysis, not listen to the song for the first time. Rewind as much as you think is necessary, that’s what makes this channel great!
I think the "voice" you mention hearing is actually a erhu, a traditional Chinese instrument. It has two strings and sound wise has been described as a Chinese violin, though it is played more like a cello.
You have to hear Signora boss theme and Childe boss theme all phases too please!! They are all very good and they all actually feel like the character they are about

This is actually played in phase 2 of Azhdaha boss fight, meaning Ode to Azhdaha actually transitions to this theme during the fight.

Azhdaha is a big bad earth dragon dude. You can really feel it in the music with the loud notes and percussion
That moment when you do a boss fight without resin just to listen to this masterpiece. My favorite song in genshin. Nothing could top it so far imo

I recommend combat beneath the waves, Inazuma, Journey into sweet dreams, Undersea encounters, say my name. All beautiful pieces of music from Genshin as well. The whole OST doesn't miss, it's incredible

Almost all song of Genshin were composed by Yu Peng Chen and his team. This guy is truely a genius, a legend, making countless good music

This piece, Part 2 plays during the second phase of Azhdaha's Boss Battle when he changes to his first elemental form and begins saturating the battle with Area of Effect attacks before he becomes vulnerable again. The last part of the song comes up just before he switches to his third stage if the battle even goes on that long.
You should look at Honkai Impact 3rd's OST as well, specifically the Song "Befall". Can also take a look at Cyberangel or Moon Halo. All exceptional songs from Genshin's big sister, Honkai Impact 3rd.

for recommendations, i'd love to hear your analysis on any of the sumeru battle themes, such as swirls of shamsir or rhymes of vale--they feature a lot of interesting percussion-- the music from that region draws a lot from hindustani & carnatic rhythms and music traditions which gives the tracks a lot of flavor.

So as a genshin and Honkai (other game that hoyoverse created) player, we often like to call Hoyoverse a music/animation company that does game on the side. Don't get me wrong, the game is good...just that their music and animation is what sticks to us.

The choir is singing in Chinese, btw! The lyrics are an ancient Chinese poem, if I'm not mistaken.
Azhdaha is an ancient Earth Dragon and the Overlord of the Geovishaps (a eny type in game.) he was once an ally of the Geo Archon (god) Morax, erosion and conflict with humanity led him to be sealed away in the Chasm.
Should've gone for the live version for this half! You can even see how the traditional chinese instruments are and the lyrics are translated!

This is my most favorite of all the boss themes in genshin. I like this more than the first phase azdaha.
What's going on in the game with this music?
So, to answer your question, This is a boss theme music and as a musician myself, I also think this is the most epic boss music i've ever heard.
Basically, this music is the sequel to the Ode to Azdaha you also gave reaction to. That one was the music for the Azdaha boss phase one. And when he does his Elemental Transformation (this boss can manipulate elements, two of the 7 elements in genshin) when his HP drops to 50%, the transition music also triggers (this one). It makes fighting that boss weekly all the more worth it.
P.s: in genshin, after you beat a story boss, they will be open in the overworld/trounce domain to be challenged for their material drops which are used to ascend the characters or their talent/skill levels.
Genshin OST is composed by Yu-Peng Chen. All of it, I think.
He is the head composer, each region he has 10+ subcomposers who work with him

There is a traditional Chinese instrument in this piece that's called Ehru, you mistook it for a voice a few times, but is actually like a very ancient violin.
14:24 when this music plays in game, you are in a region of the map that is based on Chinese culture. You are underground fighting a giant ancient dragon called Azhdaha (btw It has one of the coolest designs from the game's bosses) This giant monster has been sealed in the depths of the earth for thousands of years by the god of geo (the god of the stone) . This god created the dragon a long time ago, but when the dragon became aggressive, the god of geo had to seal him away in a cave. In this chapter you have to help the god to fight this dragon that is trying to break free.
In game you actually don't expect this boss fight at all, since it happens in one of the "side quest" that very rarely have bosses as epic as Azhdaha.
We need the full La - Signora Boss theme from Genshin 😭, pls🙏

all the tracks in Genshin are done by one person YuPeng-Chen hes basically a legend already from his tracks from Genshin
He is not alone anymore. I think after enkanomiya, they got more composers working together with Hoyo Mix. But yeah most of the music is Yu Peng Chen.

@@kanarieV3 Yes. The Chasm and the Fischl summer event tracks got other composers working with Yu Peng Chen. Die mittsommernacht fantasie is YiJunJiang and YuPengChen.
