  • My first motorcycle finally arrived! The 2023 Honda CB125F may not seem all that exciting to some, but for me, it's an opportunity to get back up on two wheels. This is not a review channel and as always, this is just me, sharing my experience, with you.
    There's not much I can do with this bike until I have my permit to ride, but at least I can do something that makes this beastie my very own. Remove all the stickers!

    my 2021 model has been great. i bought it mint from a guy who hardly rode it with only 300 miles on the clock, included was the first dealer service, and i paid a real low price. it's done 4,000 more miles since then and been totally trouble free, and had to adjust the chain just once, and even then it wasn't too far out. i've just serviced it myself with a friend, and put a new back tyre on, & it purrs along but i dont flog it, accept the limitations of a 125, & prefer to tour the narrow lanes, doing up to 200 enjoyable miles a day, so it's hard to see what i'd get from a more powerful bike for my needs, as it's comfortable enough if i stretch my legs every 90 mins or so, and i'm an old git with a bad back lol. Best of luck with yours

    Right on. Congratulations Nick. Very good looking one you got there. Got to start somewhere. But I still wanna see you on that 74 Kawasaki kz1000 with that MFP fairings and markings someday.

    Can't even go wrong with Honda! Should run forever!

      And these things claim to have fuel mileage that would rival a motorised bike too, so it's the best of both worlds! Economy AND reliability, finally!

      @@NicksBikes These make 11bhp and weigh 117kg plus your weight. This means it will spend most of it's time being flogged just to keep up with slow traffic. I know mine is busting a nut at least 50% of the ride time and that means redline of 10,000 RPM. As long as you are really meticulous with oil and filter changes it will probably last a decade before it's knackered. Have fun.

      yeah, Honda are masters at knowing how to make bikes for a market and at a budget, and the residual values even after 10 years if you look after them properly means your riding costs peanuts per year. even prices on 2nd hand 125cc chinese bikes are quite buoyant, but the cost of a new cb125f makes it a no-brainer, and so much easier to sell if/when you want to upgrade.

      @@Bob-ts2tu 100% agree. The fact that this model is Made in India honestly doesn't detract in my opinion. I've gone over mine very closely and most nuts and bolts are nickel plated and many are stainless. The engine castings are a good quality and the brakes are Nissin on excellent alloy rims. The digital dash is very nice unless you get sun from behind and then you can't read it but that's not too often. The fuel injection is from CBR600F4i's circa 2001 and as such isn't the smoothest but it's still acceptable. I have the workshop manual and it's a robust design as these 2022 models are a ground up re design of the previous 125cc units. Gears are straight cut which sounds nice and are a higher quality as well as a redesigned top end with better quality cylinder and head finishing and better rods and pistons with improved internal oil cooling. The only real killer of these is heat. Being air cooled I certainly would not like to be standing for several minutes in traffic on a 40C day. However using Honda's OEM oil and filter at the required intervals will still help.

      @@theaustralianconundrum you sound like you know your onions m8 lol. what i would say is that one of the things that attracted me to this model was the fact that it WAS a 2 valve air cooled model as opposed to water cooled, mainly for the simplicity and proven robustness. I live in yorkshire so a 40c day is unlikely :) and as far as oil i went for a real good quality synthetic oil (cant remember which now), as i understand from my lifelong biker m8 who helped me service it that it's the best option if you do longer rides, and as my minimum trip is at least 50 miles seemed a sensible option as i dont commute. Although i dont have much experience to compare it with, I can't remember hearing anyone complain about any honda, and although i'm a time served engineer (many moons ago) the thought of roadside fixes aint appealing, i just wanna ride, and up to press it aint missed a beat. On mine I think it must have been a faulty head gasket or perhaps the bolts weren't torqued correctly at the factory (in Italy). Anyway the head gasket was replaced before 1000 miles, I have now done 9000 miles and have had no further issues with the head gasket. I am guessing you will probably get better mpg in Australia as I found that when we had a warm spell here in the UK of 25 degrees C upwards, that was when I was getting the best mpg, up to 170 recorded on the clock at the time, its winter here now so usually 0 to 10 degrees C and I am getting 130mpg. I am a taller and heavier rider so lighter people say they get more. I noticed that you get a full chain guard on yours over there, here we only get a sealed chain and a small deflector, would have been better to have the full guard in my opinion!

    • @NicksBikes
      @NicksBikes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that full chain guard is a bonus, I'm hoping it'll help keep the dust and dirt out

      @@NicksBikes They are useless. You need to lube the chain every 500KM's and taking that plastic thing off and putting it back on is a nightmare!

      @@theaustralianconundrum I intend to do all my own servicing and maintenance and that chain cover is still the only (easily) removable thing I haven't tried pulling off the bike.
      Have you noticed any excess stretching of the chain? I've heard a few people say it gets sloppy fairly quickly

    • @theaustralianconundrum
      @theaustralianconundrum ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NicksBikes These run a Chinese DID 420 roller chain but it's the type of lube you use that saves them. I use Motul Race lube and the can of that is more expensive than a new original chain! LOL. They come lubed with engine oil from the Indian factory so get that Motul on as fast as possible.

      @@NicksBikes Well. I have the same model purchased 2 months ago for $3,500 rideaway and it's a great little bike. @@NicksBikes Sorry if I was a tad blunt there....... Obviously none of my business but I was saying NO NO to every sticker coming off. OEM stickers are SO EXPENSIVE! But nothing compared to the headlight @ AU$550.00. That dash is also like AU$500.00. The plastics are even worse. lol
