I hope you get this great car back to rolling. It deserves it. Most folks would junk it sadly.

I put a 4.0 from a 93 cherokee in my 83 eagle a couple months ago, and i gotta say, you way overthought this. The front diff doesnt have to come out at all. And that top transmission bolt you spent so much effort on? There is a hole in the firewall right behind it with a rubber hose in it. Just pull it out and youre good. Theres a video on my channel showing this if youre curious. Work smarter not harder, brother.

Oh wow, wish I'd noticed that hole in the firewall! I actually wondered if it could be done without dropping the diff, but the FSM said to do it, so I did it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
      Thanks for the comment!

Dan FixesThings well thats odd, my chiltons manual said nothing of it. Ive heard of some people dropping it out the bottom along with the diff and trans as a unit, but generally out the top is easier.

    You could’ve dropped a 401 V8 in it

Could have, but the way the front diff mounts to the block in the stock configuration, that would have opened a whole new can of worms
