Great job with the tutorial! I think you do a fantastic job of showing how it's done without making it all fancy pants. You know I really have a soft spot in my heart for these 28mm Warlord Games Roman Legionaries. When Warlord Games bought out my favorite company Wargames Factory I was so horribly bummed. I could not be any more wrong! Wargames Factory lives on strong in the good hands of Warlord Games! They took the ball and ran with it. Making subtle upgrades here and there and continue to crank out great new products. The one downside is they are in the UK and I'm in the States, so shipping can be a pain. However, Warlord often has buy ~$40 worth and free shipping too USA. Plus whenever they have a sprue sale I buy a bunch of the individual Legion sprue's just so I can bulk up my army at a decent price. Not to mention I placed a $150 order and was missing a few sprue and they quickly sent me out a full replacement of the missing ones. No questions ask! Talk about a great customer service department and a great company to support. Sorry if this got a little TLDR, but I just love sharing my passion with a fellow hobbyist of Historical Mini's. PS: You've got a pretty decent channel and I've decided to subscribe too it and see what other things you have coming down the pipe! Keep your paints flowing and these great tutorials coming. Because after watching this one video I'm sold!
Rob's Hobbys you're passionate about historical figures I don't mind talking to you so no apology needed. Right now I'm trying to finish some Celts so I can move on to some celt chariots. Good news is I only have one more unit of 20 legionaries to paint up😄
Well I'm glad to have somebody to shot the shite with! So far I have completed 5 Roman Legionnaires to a table top standard. What I mean by that is I've got all the base colors down, picked out the details and I think they look pretty smashing. However, I haven't really given them a wash so they are spit & polished new from the academy. I kind of like them this way, so I think the next batch I do I will give them an GW Agrax Earthshade or something like that. My line of thinking is these boys are the new recruits and I have a veteran Legionnaire sprue I can test on them since they are quite beaten up looking anyhow. I'm rather used to painting 28mm WW2, Zombiecide and the GW 40k stuff, so historical mini's I'm pretty new at. Right now I've got 8 Greek Hopolites and a handful of Celtic warriors on the bench. The Greek's are from the Hail Caesar line and the detail on them is miles away from the Romans(not sure why?) They are giving me a bit of trouble trying to come up with a color scheme besides just painting them all bronze. What I came up with is painting blue on the helmet's fur and cloth on one half and the other half's Fur & cloth Red. With the addition of the bronze armor I can see them turning out pretty good. The Celts on the other hand are a whole different beast. Luckily there is more source material on them than I could find for the Greek army. I'll scratch together a video in the next few days and show you and anyone else interested what I've got done so far this year. I'll keep an eye out to see how your coming along with those Celts. Cheers!
Edoardo Perini heavy metal is just such a natural move for the hobby it's weird that you don't see more thanks for watching thanks for leaving a comment
Alex Gun strangely enough those Shields come in the kit for some reason so I threw it on. I believe those Shields are for the standard Bearer or unit leader. Lastly I wanted to save that shield for a another model.
Yeah, Signifers and also musicians could use this type of shield. Centurions, as I know, used classic Scutum cause in battle they were in the first line.
Ps. I am currently using a Sony HDR-CX230 (3-4 years old). I am going to a Cannon Vixia with the wide angle lens and directional mic. I thought the Sony had a external mic jack when I got the camera but it did not.....sheit. Cheersx2
Great video once again, making it simple for the beginners. I'd really appreciate a Celtic warriors tutorial at some point; trying to make my first 5 not seem completely the same was a total nightmare of a process & I'm really avoiding the rest of them for the time being hohohoho
cloudydim a celt tutorial no worries man. I wouldn't worry about them looking the same that's extraordinary hard unless you're going for different patterns on Shields and pants but I'll see what I can do to make it tutorial for you thanks for watching buddy
dirtybirdsf my tank Busters are just chilling out in the Army transport in the lap of luxury. As for the greenskins I just played a Kings of war game with my Orcs and did an tactical video for kings of War. I'd be happy to bring back 40K to my channel the only problem is everybody who plays wants to play somewhere else other than my house. Another problem I have with the exception of 30k players all the people all know who play 40K don't roll painted. And they always want to meet on the busiest nights so I suffer from extreme noise pollution. But I'll see what I can do
That's a very good method and will be useful to anyone who has too paint many figures in a short time. I once had to paint 500 of these figures over a month, I still have nightmares when I see these warlord Romans! I keep thinking those circular shields are for the musician or standard bearer?
johnp4000 I just grabbed them available Shield I didn't think he was a big deal I'll just throw them in the back ranks with the veterans. Having to paint 500 of those is enough to give me nightmares thinking about it thanks for watching
It is funny but we seemed to have used an identical paint scheme except I used Bestial brown which is a lighter shade of brown(or was not sure what it is called now?) I think the importance is to get the troops on the table and play. When I think of the past I think perhaps I have spent too much time painting rather than gaming.
johnp4000 gaming is exactly the point. That's what's turn me on to historical wargaming I spend less time Painting and More Time gaming. I painted a couple Space Marines not too long ago on bikes and they seemed like they took forever they just had useless detail after useless detail I'm talking bullets in weird places skulls chains studded leather straps you name it man. If I were painting Civil War I know that there's only one way that Union line infantry are going to look and that's kind of why I like it so much. I can't wait to start my Roman Cavalry this week
Dude these videos are amazing. I’m also new to figure painting and the game as a whole, but I have a big interest in ancient and classical warfare and you portray that very well with your battle reports 👍👍👍. Also Could you do like a successor kingdom vs Greek hoplites battle that would be cool. Keep up the good work😄😄.

Very good tutorial! I am working on camera's also. I converted an old broken work lamp into a camera boom so I can shot from above. Working very well so I can paint like I normally do with my glasses off and holding the model relatively close while I listen to Danzig and Mozart. Check out my vids too and let me know if you have any questions. Cheers man!!

Nice!
But one question: why does the Imperial Roman have round shield? :)
