@@niyatisanjay_ just finished my exam, it’s nothing to worry about I promise u, just watch the bit of the video where it mentions the writers effect, you’ll be fine, it was easy:)
I'm so glad you find them useful. Thank you! Yes, a Paper 2 explained is most definitely on the to-do list. In the meantime I do have videos about narrative and descriptive writing. Nothing on directed response yet though! Narrative: th-cam.com/video/RjfWQibB8LQ/w-d-xo.html Description: th-cam.com/video/TWar9JIffRU/w-d-xo.html
Can't believe how simple you have made the writer's effects. Will they really not penalise you for having such a predictable outline like the one you've given? Thank you so much for making this available. Just amazing.
Thank you! Nope, they don't penalise for being formulaic because it's marked in the same manner. As an examiner, honestly I love it when a student ticks off in order what's on my mark scheme - makes the job easier!
Hi! I just had my exam this week and I wanted to thank you. I've gotten such clarity on this and the directed writing. Your video series has exponentially increased my grades and I'm so grateful that you do this for us despite being a literal teacher. I hope you have a great day!
Summary Writing: Cambridge adores planning, especially in ECR which shows command of a student. Will it waste my time? Cause just moving pages after each splash second is just time waste. Plus, then it will go ahead of 1 page.
This is very helpful. It simply confirmed that I have been doing the correct thing. Thanks a million. Please, could you give tips for paper 2. Thank you in advance.
Please, make a video on how to handle stress, anxiety before and till the result. Last year, I had to appear for some of my CAIE and the experience was awful while studying. Before that, I did not handle anxiety at all, slept less, ate less food and sometimes even got 12-13 hours of studying but in vain.I fear, this year may not happen the same and this agony finally vanishes. Most people make videos "You are more then a piece of paper". If I want to go to Cambridge, etc they would still look in.
Good luck with your mocks! 🌟 Best advice - keep a close eye on the timings. Too many of my students go very slowly then only have fifteen mins left for question 3, which is the juiciest question. If you're also doing Paper 2 for your mock, I have a video about that coming out today 👀
Hoping to start work on IGCSE Lit from September :) What exam board do you do? Edexcel or Cambridge? Haven't quite decided where to start yet so help me get inspired!

It was what advice would you give to new…..
I was told that I should pick out language devices to convey the specific understanding that dipict deeper understanding level. @taughtly can you explain me why I shouldn't choose language devices?
@@JaneKares it's unnecessary, often overcomplicates your answer and loses focus on what the examiner is looking for: can you identify imagery? Can you explain the literal meaning of the imagery? Can you analyse the effect of the imagery? Beyond that, nothing else is required - this isn't a literature exam ☺
Hey! I'm very curious to ask. There was a talk question in P1 and I followed the Format of speech/article mix and applied diff techniques. Although everything went well but I gave a journal heading at top and started with date. How much marks will get deducted?
Hard to answer that without seeing your paper. You likely lost a couple of marks at least for appropriate register, but remember that register is only one element of the writing mark scheme. You also get marked on your vocabulary, clarity and flow of your language so it shouldn't destroy your overall score hopefully!
@@Taughtlyyeah like I followed the format of speech but didn't end with a thank you, instead gave a polite ending but yeah more than 5 marks can be deducted for just writing a journal at top and starting with a date?
@@JaneKares @JaneKares it's unnecessary, often overcomplicates your answer and loses focus on what the examiner is looking for: can you identify imagery? When an exam or question asks you to “use your own words,” it means that you shouldn’t copy the text exactly. Instead, you need to rephrase it, demonstrating that you understand the meaning. This involves explaining the ideas or information in a way that sounds natural to you, without repeating the exact wording from the original text. You can change key words with synonyms and restructure the sentences, but be careful to keep the meaning the same. For example, if the text says: “The sky was filled with dark clouds.” In your own words, you could say: “There were many dark clouds covering the sky.” This way, you’re showing you understand, but without copying.
Not right now. I'm focusing on IGCSE Poetry and making teaching units for IGCSE Writing right now, then from September I will be branching out a little.
@@lwf5842 only for summary writing. For the other questions, don't worry about word count, just concentrate on your timings so you can finish the exam in time. If you go over the word count for the other questions, it doesn't matter at all.
Hi Sarah, for question 3 (Directed writing question), to get the 'details' points, are we allowed to copy from the text? Thanks Sarah for the encouraging video!
Hi Hannah :) I would recommend that you try to use your own words as much as possible. You do lose marks for "lifted material" on the writing mark scheme (directly copied words/phrases). Especially once you're copying phrases of 3+ words, it would start to pull down your mark. Of course, there are some very precise words that you can't really use a synonym for, like "table". You wouldn't change it to "console", "cabinet" or "four-legged piece of furniture". So in this case, it's okay to copy occasional words that are so specific you can't really reword them. If you want, I have a free paraphrasing lesson that explains different methods of rewriting using your own words. It's only available on my website. You do need to sign up but no need to enter any payment details etc to access: taughtly.co.uk/courses/igcse-first-language-english-paper-1-and-paper-2-revision-course/ You can find that lesson on Summary Writing > Taughtly Exclusive: Paraphrasing Video Lesson

I just have a doubt in Q2d).So example if we are unable to find 3 images from each paragraph is it allowed to use other phrases to answer the question?
Hi there! Good question. You should only select three images from the paragraphs you have been given. This is because the examiner can only credit the quotes on the mark scheme, so if you quote from elsewhere then your answer definitely won't be on the mark scheme. So you should pick three images from each paragraph strictly and not quote from elsewhere in the extract. Hope this helps! ☺
