I love how Jane takes Lisbon's hand at the end. To me its not only about sentimentality but about grounding, bringing him back to safe ground after a traumatic event. He did the same thing at the end of the Nemec scene when he was almost drowned by Nemecs henchmen.
I don't understand why the CBI people didn't like Wainwright so much.. Okay, he was younger than any of them, but he's kind. And nobody seemed to care about his death 😞 it's so sad

Nah Wainwright had to suffer in some manner, maybe not like this. But he was in over his head and thought he was smarter enough to play with the big boys. In a way he had retribution coming for sure

He was doing his job perfectly. He didn't stuffed his head into red john much either(well fbi asked for his the files so he didn't have much choice about that) . He was very open to Lisbon's team. Jane deliberately made him angry in ep 23 or 24 ig? It was Jane's fault
@@bait5257 Chill and watch Wainwright's episodes again with a clear set of eyes. He showed arrogance, overconfidence, and a lack of skills. In a short few eps we've already seen him introduce himself to the team like a try-hard, deceived by the team to catch a guy planning to murder via a mass shooting and the athlete's bombing, being unprofessional for a childhood idol trying to get an autograph. Later he'll play psychologist, a field he was totally unqualified for, to diagnose Jane as a sociopath. Anyone who knows basic psychology would recognize that as patently false. He wanted to question that Hailey girl for clues to RJ but Jane beat. He was wrong on pretty much every case. Wainwright was promoted well beyond his station, but he had a pretty face and that deceived many.
It’s scary to think how much Jane’s entire repertoire would be affected by losing two fingers. The power is in the mind, but the execution is all in the hands...

Same here. I'm watching the next episode and I just heard that Wainwright was killed by agent Darcy so I came here and I just realised that the dead person in the limo was him 😢
He didn't deserve it- I thought at the time it was a harsh end for his character, and he was a young guy. On the other hand though he wasn't really a stand up, trustworthy sort of person- his character showed no loyalty to the team and seemed only concerned with his own self interest and climbing the ladder was his priority. He was a bit underhand conspiring with the FBI behind the back of his team against his own team basically.
As their boss his priority should have been to look after his team like Lisbon does, not put himself first (that's why Jane never trusted him and called him Mamma's boy because he wouldn't stand up and take responsibility himself like a real man would). Saying that it was still a sad end- he was young and could have grown in maturity and learned to take more responsibility and loyalty to others.

First off, he was the head of their whole division not the head of that one specific team. His job is to make sure the CBI is closing cases with a minimum of collateral damage. Too much bad press or too many legal issues and they could be closed down. His job, his priority is to keep the offices open and everyone working there employed.
Lisbon's team closes cases yes but the way they do it opens up the entire Sacramento office to numerous legal problems. Legal problems that HE has to deal with.
He covers their asses over and over again. With the shit they pull every episode, their careers should have been over a LONG time ago. The fact that they're still working, that they aren't being brought up on charges every other episode for Jane's stunts and their complicity in them is because Wainwright (and Hightower and Virgil and even LaRoche to an extent) covered for them. Every time. Even when he finds out he's been lied to and manipulated by the team, he says "I'm just glad it worked out" because they caught the bad guy and closed the case without too much damage.
But then in that episode Jane went beyond the pale. He crossed a line that even Wainwright couldn't cover.
He tortured a man. He locked the guy in a coffin and refused to release him until he confessed. That won't fly in ANY courtroom. Jane may have solved the crime but he ensured that the criminal would walk without ever facing any justice for his crime. And it opened the CBI up to another string of lawsuits and inquiries that could very likely end in the Sacramento office being shut down and every member of Lisbon's team getting fired and blackballed from law enforcement.
And what was Jane's response? "Who cares, he was a bad guy. I did nothing wrong"
That's not Wainwright refusing to 'take responsibility as a man should', that's Jane. Jane refused to acknowledge his actions as wrong. Refused to take any responsibility for them at all.
As for 'loyalty', once again Jane's actions could have destroyed Lisbon, Van Pelt, Cho and Rigsby's careers. But he didn't seem to care too much about that at all did he? Of course not. He had a plan to take down Red John. So what if his friends lives are ruined in the course of his plan? As long as he gets his revenge. You wanna talk Loyalty? Jane showed none.
If Patrick turned out to be Red John, that would simply be absurd. It would shatter every single season of the show. And it would be unnecessarily complicated. I'm confident Red John is some guy we haven't seen yet

I was on the edge of my seat and had my mouth open the entire time as soon as I heard Red John’s voice, it’s so creepy but calculating and enigmatic
I fucking lost it when I saw it was Wainwright tied up in the backseat lol.
Just for all who didn't already know that: Patrick Jane can't be Red John, because the creator of the series, Bruno Heller, once told in an interview, that they are different persons, due to the fact, that CBS forbade him to turn a popular actor, known to be the good guy, into a bad one.
I find it creepy that Red John was voiced by Simon Baker in this episode.
I still wonder if there's some parallel universe where this show had been scripted as Patrick Jane being Red John. In some ways, it would have made much more sense, and been a far darker twist. If 'The Mentalist' had been produced for HBO instead, I think we might have got that one.

that's boring though isn't it? i mean it's literally what everyone EXPECTS. it's kind of the obvious outcome if you think about it. on the other hand where is the motive? and no, "crazy" is not a motive and a lazy plot device. the show paints a much better Jane if he's damaged from the loss of his love and seeks revenge, rather than "he's a psycho". UNLESS gradually we would have reveals about Angela's character being not that great, like from the view of a person recovering from amnesia.

Guys, am I the only one who has a nagging suspicion that Red John is in love with Jane? I'm not being Woke- not in the least. I'm just wondering why all this fuss about what Patrick said on TV that started the vendetta. It's not like Patrick was attacking MacAllister who could get fired or something. He was attacking a construct named Red John. So somebody goes on TV and calls you all sorts of names. If MacAllister considers Jane a nothing, an upstart, a fake psychic- why would he care enough to " punish " this nothing? Wouldn't it have been enough for Red John just to leave a note in Patrick's house without actually touching his wife and daughter? Something like, " Listening to fake psychics and taking their ' analysis ' seriously is very high on the list of my priorities. Right next to pulling my teeth without the benefit of anesthesia. Have a marvelous life Mister Jane. " I think that approach would have freaked Patrick out without turning him into a hunter- and a ruthless and lethal one at that. But no, MacAllister had to make it personal so...he created his own relentless judge and executioner. What a loser.

There's no line he won't cross to get Red John Lisbon, you should know that.
At the near end of the scene, when Jane is with Lisbon sitting on the heap of sand, a police patrol ( more like Sheriff Police Cruiser) whizzes past the couple, it was the visual hint that McAllister is Red John, as the teaser of "Crimson Hat" stated that you've got to Watch every scene very closely.

Yes but the police car patent was from Las Vegas it will be from Napa California. Now they are in Las Vegas so I think the writers means that was the patrol of RJ or another sheriff of The Blade Org.

I agree. There is a fair amount of evidence that points to McAllister.
How? tell me the stuff that points to him, i don't really see anything..
1) Red John started to be interested in Jane after they met in Napa.
2) He more or less fits Rosalinds description and also the supposed age.
3) He is a member of the Tyger Tyger.
4) He is a hunter, is able to walk very quietly.
5) He has a fobia.
6) He is an excellent shooter even in total darkness.
7) His sense of smell seems to be very good.
8) He tries to be on friendly terms with Jane, calls him Patrick.
9) He wears the same boots as Red John does.
10) The scene between him and Van Pelt - she was quite lucky that day that Rigsby lost his cool.

Are there still fans around? Fun fact: I think the writers chose the name of Lorelei for a reason. The biggest river in my country (The Rhine, Germany) flows through a romantic valley with rugged cliffs. It bends around a particularly big rock known as “Loreley Rock”. Due to the current and swirls of the river passage for ships was dangerous. Over centuries lots of stories and tales evolved from this.
In 1824 one of the greatest German poets, Heinrich Heine, was inspired by the myth. He wrote a poem about a witch named Loreley who caused shipwrecks by putting men under her spell with her beauty and her singing. His poem is enormously famous and deeply rooted in German cultural heritage. I’m afraid the translation is not as good as the original verse, but it might give you an idea of the power of Heine’s words:

I just thought of something. When Jane lowers the mirror to see RJ, the head we see is stable and not moving at all. True Wainwright was tied down, but in the scene when Darcy opens the door to see him dead, it shows he's tied with tape around his shoulders, wrists, arms and mouth, but nothing keeping his head steady to avoid any movement. So Wainwright could have atleast moved his head or wiggled it as some kind of signal to Jane no? Just thought it was interesting. Definitely ready for S05!!

This was Patrick's plan all along, he was playing Red John into thinking that he became desperate, he was giving in to Red John but it was all part of his plan to begin with. So I don't think that Patrick fell in love with Lorelei. And that Patrick was using Lorelei to get closer to Red John.
Don't be a director of the CBI. Few end up well.
Eventually they shut the whole thing down.

For the start, very glad indeed to see how many fans have this series. I am one of them, actually one of you :) I love this series, is the best series of all time but that's another topic. I read a lot of comment will, there is plenty of truth, a lot of arguments but my guess is that even the writers, and even the Simon Baker (Patrick Jane) not knowing who is and who will be put writers Jon Red. This is a series,it is taken to be fun, and it must be interesting and that we tickle our imagination

I think it was agent Darcy, which means we still have an insider in the CBI even tho she's FBI, she just turns up whenever she feels like it. This could still give her opportunity to start accusing/investigating Jane as RJ's accomplice, she never followed that up in season 4.If it's her she needs a fall guy, but then wot will RJ make of that????

I love how the camera zooms to Jane when Lorelei says "heard so much about you." These scenes are brilliant. We know Jane slept with Lorelei but all the subtle signs are telling us te might be in love with Lisbon. The condradictions!

For this whole part I thought the guy on the backseat was a tied up lifeless plastic doll and that the blood was the driver's. I didn't realize it was Wainwright until the next episode(?) when they talked about how he got killed during the thing.
Same here, thought it was some random guy until he got replaced in Season 5.
So explain Rosaline. And explain Roy. That is the glaring issue with the; Red John = Patrick Jane theory.
If PJ is Red John, what happened to Roy? Sure enough, had he COMPLETELY disappeared then you could build a theory on it however you can't. In 4x13, Rosaline calls Jane and says that Roy has came back.
Know, if PJ were Roy, wouldn't Rosaline know if it were Jane? Wouldn't she realise that from the voice and manner alone?

The voice of Red John is also Simon Baker, but this is most likely just because they don't have a Red John yet and there is no point hiring an additional actor just for one scene.
I agree with you. At the beginning of season 4 I have been wondering about that too, and after some analysis and proven with Cheap Burgundy episode, I "believe" that the real RJ is the mastermind (or I called the head) and there are other "RJs" who in the case the head dead will be the next RJ. And the idea PJ as RJ is also crazy. I mean Patrick killed his own family? That's crazy people.Look how Patrick's life become so miserable.
Pro tip:- Don't be head of CBI.

Jane's plan was so predictable, no wonder RJ did not show up. And unfortunately, the young CBI boss was killed for nothing... Jane is really dangerous, selfish and egotist... I am starting to wonder if he is worth all this trouble. Lisbon should really be careful !

Patrick narrowly escapes his finger being mutilated by Lorelei (the finger holding the symbol of his love), and the first thing he does with that same hand when he's out of danger is trace the length of Lisbon's lower arm, and hold her hand.
People really out there simping for Lorelei when symbolism like this is coming at them from every angle. Get therapy.

You can hear around 1:20 in the way "Patrick" is said that it is Simon Baker's voice just modulated through some software. Its kind of neat that he's going to be the villain, I guess I just hoped they would hide it better.

the sad part is being how jane is red john coulda easily recruited him, as jane wants entertainment XD but he messed up in killing jane's wife and child, if he'd just scared them it probably would have been much more effective.
Well, swindling was morally acceptable to him but murder was not. Like that scene where he pitied the young girl who was dying that his dad wanted to swindle
and why do you think she kept calling him "lover"? to turn the knife in lisbon's wound. now if jane is RJ, lorelei wouldn't interfere in his game with lisbon (being RJ he obviously is playing lisbon...for a reason. lorelei wouldn't dare interfere)
think how constantly and passionately obsessed jane is w/ his vendetta for years now. no fake apparence/deceit/game is so genuinely consuming. keeping it up involves a real aching wound. the idea of PJ=RJ is absurde, 100% sure.

Everyone's sharing their ideas, so I'll share mine.
I think it'd be interesting if RJ ended up being Patrick's father. It would describe how they are so similar in personality, and yet different since Patrick fights for good, and RJ for bad. I also think it would be a twist that they could implement that would still keep the other episodes up until that point enjoyable. There's also things to consider that make them so similar, their liking for tea being just one example.
The age didn't make sense, he wasn't a good mentalist, lots of reasons it wasn't.
In 3.33, we can see a police car from Nappa Valley where Sheriff Thomas McCallisters worked... the signs were there, haha.
Since the walkie-talkie on the agent's neck in real life has limited range, to speak there, one would have to be close...
I just watched this on TV but the shot of Luthers body was cut out from the TV version so I never knew he died until I saw S5 Ep1 and they said he died so I had to come here to find out

I recon agent dart is RJ's accomplice, as she found out that the dead body wasn't rigsby, she was the last person to speak to Waithwright before his death, and it could have been that she knew he was in the limosine and purposely killed him to stop him secretly investigating the RJ case

I think you have made a good point. It is a bit strange how Lorelei was told to cut two of Jane's fingers off...I really dont see a point to it or any kind of reason for RJ to want two of his fingers...there's some weird stuff about this episode!

No, just because it took the writers/Heller 5 season to decide. They used SB precisely because it would 100% never be Jane.
