Fun fact: the series were supposed to end when red john died, but it continues by the high demand of fans wanted to know what happen to jane after that and what future holds for jane and lisbon. Thank God right?

I seriously think we need more...Jane got his happy ending with Lisbon finally. A spinoff about Cho would be great

Perfect choice for a serial killer, people were expecting a more grandiose villain, but I'm glad they went for the realistic option, that's what makes the show unforgettable. The whole Blake thing was a bit much though.

Bruno Heller deserves every bit of scorn and vitriol directed at him for giving loyal fans of the Mentalist the proverbial "finger" by completely copping out with the crap "wrap up" of the Red John story line. "He is mar", the Visualize farm, killing Jane's happy memory, figuring out the list of suspects, and we get no answers? "Just details..." What a cop out. What an absolute kick to the gut for all the loyal fans who have followed this series with great anticipation for finding out how how these pieces would come together in a final match of wits between Jane and RJ. A pigeon? Red John calling 911? Truly leaves me speechless. Heller clearly was done with the Mentalist, just wanted to wrap up the RJ saga, and get on to his REAL interest, "Gotham." To hell with the fans. Truly the biggest betrayal of a fan base in television history.
Reminds my of the Blacklist. Only Red Reddington was a stone cold killer....

I think it is best if the director would show some clips showing how Red John managed to establish the Red Blake Association and lure his accomplice including Lorelei Martins, and also showing how he killed Jane's wife and daughter.
It will be more phenomenal and convinced the audience that Red John really a pragmatic serial murderer.
Im a bit confused how serious everyone takes this series. Ive always seen The Mentalist more like a Comedy/happy criminal series.

What i loved about this drama was that Jane killed Red John with his own hands, he did not forgive him or gave him upto the police he took Red John's life with his own hand, all the while Jane was shown as a person who always avoids fights, but that person chose to kill his enemy with his own hands. That's true revenge

What’s crazy about Red John, is Bosco almost figured the whole organization out at the beginning of the show. He scared Red John so much he sent someone to kill Bosco and his team. That shows how smart and good of a cop Bosco was. I wish we got to see more of him. He figured out “Tiger Tiger” so easy.

He was good, and unfortunetly too good and it made Red John wanted to kill him (not because he is scared that he found out, but the fact that he might find out before Jane does)

WHAT? When did Bosco find out anything about him? He just luckily found the body of Red John's victim, Red John also already had removed the evidence.
Bosco made Jane realise that even Red John was not invincible, that he could make mistakes as well.
I love how Red John was portrayed in the end, as a pathetic delusional weakling, who prayed on weak and vulnerable women and children. Like all serial killers, he was a sad little man, and not some kind of hero to be admired or glorified for his cunning or brilliance, or anything else like that.
If you realize Bill Gates is equivalent of a Red John in modern Covid ERA!
This is always the dumbest argument ever though. If he's not to be appreciated for his ability and cunning the whole show is moot. He's just a bad guy. The whole point of a show like this is the game theory and strategy between Jane and Red John. It's not about morality it's about ability.

he's a brilliant guy (all throughout the series), but in the end, when it comes down to it,, he's a sad little man and that contrast is what makes the ending great.

When Oscar had his gun pointed at him. The valid complaint is, this ending is not worthy of the character they wrote. There's no cop out like "He is pathetic". They simply did not come up with a convincing enough plan to defeat him. He could still be "pathetic" after said plan. It's not consistent.

PS. you said "the ending is not worth the character they wrote". but it is. the contrast between McAllister and RJ isn't a plot hole, it's an intentional dissimilarity.
up until s06e08, we haven't seen McAllister, we've only seen RJ and his grand theatrics. Red John's a persona, he's McAllister working from behind the curtain. for 5.5 seasons, he's almost a myth. and that's intentional on his part. he _wants_ to seem bigger & better than other, than he is. (bcos Red John is McAllister's legacy.)
but when he's pulled out from behind the curtains and into the light, when he can no longer hide behind his minions and his crafted persona, that's when you see the real man behind it all, McAllister. and as OP said, that man is an ugly small man. brilliant but ugly, small and pathetic in the end nonetheless.
personally, that's a lot more realistic and plausible than him being a cartoonish, clairvoyant, "greater than mortals", villain.

Realised two cool things about red john.
From season 1 to rj's death jane nearly always wore blue: Blue Jane was literally the antithesis to Red John, making him the perfect archnemesis
Also, from season 1 to rj's death, the episode title's are all to do with the colour red, showing jane's obsession with him. After his death the episode names explore other colours like green, white and violet, showing how he moved on.
this was the most stressful and anxiety ridden plot line that I had ever watched. it was brilliant writing

Only thing I miss is a scene with Tommy, the guy who acted like he was stupid and who incinerated some people. Jane got him because he read Moby Dick. And they have a conversation about revenge that is iconic to Jane's story.
Apart from that, awesome job.
It was actually in the project but i guess i dropped it because the fitting lines "It was redemptive.. You wouldnt understand" would have need a bit of context. But i understand the importance you see in that scene.

@@TH3P41NT3DC0W idk i said this before he always seemed to show up. There was plenty of reasons and murders in the area he was that we saw him way more than the other guys. For the most part i always expected it to be him. Idk but out of all of them when he first appeared i liked him as the bad guy. Never once even considered the list Jane had even though people say they didn't pick the real red john till 4 or 5 seasons in . I tend to not believe that. The one fella that was into kids was just to easy of a target, the cop or was he a fed was deep in but not showing up till much later in the show told me he was a no. The old guy i felt upset when he passed he helped Jane many times. Again for me it made perfect sense.

Who ever put this together did a great job. The compilation of all the scenes are a story unto themselves and the music in the background adds to the drama as it unfolds. Again whoever did this, you did an awesome job. I watched the series but after we finish our current binge watching (MASH), we’re going to rewatch the series again. I put this up there with NCIS, The West Wing, Star Trek...
People are so unhappy with the RJ reveal but I am so happy with it. Yes I admit a part of me was slightly bothered that it wasn't someone we knew and changed everything but it shows the reality of life.
You don't always have a nemesis that is close. It's just a person you don't look at or consider. And in the end they stripped away the mask of red John and revealed a weak nothing of a man which is truly what he was. I loved the ending
C.D Parkinson what? we knew Red john, he met Jane so many times. He felt suspecious during one og the first episodes of the first season, the one with the killer of the redheads, when he found Vanpelt walking alone he literally almost kidnapped her, if it wasn't for her cowerkers and his cowerker. He is the sherif and yet felt so weird trying to force her into his car, but being the sherif got him out of it.

People expected red John to be somebody emotionally close to Patrick like Rigsby or Cho or Minelli or something not a character who appeared in one episode at the start.

The relief Patrick felt after killing Red John. Whyy is it so satisfying? I don't knooww.
We waited 6 seasons for that moment, thus, it was very satisfying to watch, but it was a very short moment though. 6 seasons is a lot.

I looked up the critic reviews for the show and i gotta tell you, critics are some of the most arrogant and self involved people. The show is a masterpiece and Red John is probably the best developed villain that I have ever seen on any movie/tv show. The fact that they managed to drag him out to 6 seasons and still made it interesting and satisfying proves my point. I also love the fact that Patrick was not transitioned into one of those good guys who turn the cheek or forgive their nemesis. He got his revenge and killed Red John with his own hand, no pretending he was the good guy.

Subverting expectations with extreme disappointments is just a lie. If you are incapable of understanding how bad that writing is, you have no right to criticize critics who took up film studies in college and spent years on analyzing and comparing films. you are no professional, but some of them are, and already you’ve lost your credibility.
In conclusion: some of the critics are pros and you aren’t even a critic, you are biased and there is no factual evidence to prove the show was as good as you claim it to be, ratings and view counts and time slots and reviews and ad revenues and even youtube views disagree with you. The closest thing to your false image would probably be Lucifer before it got picked up by Netflix, mixed reviews and bad CGI but massive fanbases and enough community support and polls to act as proof of popularity, things that The Mentalist do not have. Wake up, it’s a decent show that did not end on a high note, just be glad it at least entertained enough people for it to be remembered.

Amazingly, Sheriff McAllister appeared in the 2nd episode of the series. Patrick beat him at a game of rock-paper-scissors. I wonder if the writers had already worked it out for him to be red john, or if, years later, when it came time to pick somebody to be red john, they went back through the episodes and picked him at random.
They hadn't. By the end of season 4, Bruno Heller still wasn't sure who Red John was.
No they had already planned it... remember the episode which Jane release a prisoner who’s not guilty for his crime in order to share information about Red John and at the end of the episode he writes on the wall with his blood “he is MAC” ..... This means that they had planned it from even season 1

Pinsara Rulz it says he is MAR actually. this was again another piece of foreshadowing which meant little to nothing. maybe it was short for ‘he is marked’ ie the tattoos, but heller admitted he didn’t know who RJ was until season 5.

Desperately in love with the Mentalist...I discovered it just few months ago I just finished to watch the sixth one. As a lot of you said I loved the way Jane killed Red John with his hands. I waited for his revenge with him and the team. Simon Baker is an awesome actor and Patrik Jane a wonderful character...I enjoy my last season 😢
Yeah I found the show in like late June and finished the series about 3 days ago. Was an amazing series.
This tribute is the best video I have ever seen. This video contains the powerful dialogues, the complete storyline divided in perfect 4 parts; the prologue, join of CBI, Finding the hint, and finally confrontation of The red John.
#The_Mentalist is the perfect TV show, with a perfect portrayal of Patrick by Simon Baker.

I loved watching this series, especially this revenge heat with Red John and Patrick Jane. But there is still one thing I don't like about Red John, no offence but *_I wished Red John was the kind of guy who not only takes pleasure seeing people in pain and suffering, but also someone who fears no death, and even if he would, he will take it gladly with a vicious smile on his face, knowing that the game is not over just for him, but also the death of the countless people he took with him._*
Now that is the kind of Red John which I was expecting rather than this coward I see when he fears his own death.

I feel like making him like that would have sort of made him more mythology than man which is sort of what the show seemed to be going for at the end. They seemed to want to break down this character that Jane and the audience had been building to.
It also becomes an interesting point of conflict between Jane and red John. The two men are both egotistical and showmen. They enjoy watching people solve problems that they already know the answer to. But Jane doesn't really fear dying he investigates and solves murders while putting himself at risk of dying all the time. Red John was sort of always the opposite only making a move after being certain that he wasn't vulnerable.

I can see where you are coming from.
However I think this is maybe a better way to do it. We never really see Red John in all of the Mentalist, making him feared and elusive, but then we only get a dark reflection of Jane.
Someone who seems like a myth, a menace, dangerous and invincible, but is in truth a sad little coward with no chance of redemption.
All the while Jane is often seen (of course he isn’t, the audience knows that) as cowardly when faced with violence, as fragile and vulnerable, but is stone cold, calculating and relentless, not afraid to either stare down a gun or turn a person’s own mind against them.
They are polar opposites in every way. Even their persona, the facades they put up, are mirrored. John is basically what Jane would have been, if he wasn’t a good person.
Very similar to Holmes and Moriarty, and similar nemeses.
I believe it's to reflect that Jane was right all along in calling him a coward etc during his interview, I think it was supposed to represent that Jane found him and killed him and got to put him through the fear he put others through and won in the end in more ways than one.
Where as if he was a mad man he would have died laughing or he wouldn't have felt fear or understanding that Jane got him and defeated him but by him being somewhat sane, he knew his last moments were taken by Jane and he lost.

Still think the show should have ended after he killed Red John, I get everyone wanted to see him end up with Lisbon but the extra season really drags on and doesnt flow well.

8:30 was the real clue who red john was. If you pay attention before nameing sheriff tomas mcallister lorelai is just name dropping, but when she comes to red john he's the only one whose name she reads mentioning the titule sheriff first hinting his big ego
And also if u rewatch Ep2S01 red john who is the sheriff tried to kidnap Vanpelt but Wayne R. punched him; that was a sign that he was a killer.
Oh... you missed the best one. When Red John sends a message to Jane “has he given up”. In that episode Jane goes to cemetery.. you can see Red John’s real Name on the grave in front of his wife and daughter’s.

Just finished this show , and I'm disappointed , they could have made a great vilain with red john but in the end it was just some random dude with no charisma ...
seriously for the rest of the show , so the 2nd haft of season 6 and all season 7 , I was telling myself " okay they killed a fake red john , but when the real one will reappears ? "
but no , it was the real one ...
I really regret watching this show , because I was only watching for the red john arc , all the rest was at best ... boring

I was so relieved that the writers didn't have Jane have a change of heart about killing Red John. It annoys me when shows build up a character saying that they will kill the bad guy, and then have them not go through with it. The fact that Jane killed him made me enjoy and appreciate the show even more by the time I finished it. More shows need to take that approach over the whole "if you kill them you will become like them" drivel.

I still miss The Mentalist I have been watching plenty shows but this is the only one I cannot shake out of my head I don't understand why they stopped it
