VERY underrated technique, indeed. Even playing a root note in the correct key can be challenging when it comes to who you’re playing with. It doesn’t matter how simple the bassline is, because if it’s theoretically correct and the player is being soulful by pouring themselves into their playing, it can make the song 10x better. A good bassist can make a group go a very long way
Bass is the cake. Drums are the platter the cake is on. Guitar is the icing/frosting. You can have a beautiful platter and delicious frosting but without the cake they don't amount to much.

Kind of, there's been some very percussive bassists and this is definitely one o0f these most here.
