My guess is they don't want the average nonce opening hitbox viewer and going "Look at this jank hitbox!" There's alot of nuance to a move between a frame, hitbox, and even the animation. Basic frame data is the simplest to show and explain as it can help new players go "ahh so that's how it connects" especially with the frame meter they have. I wouldn't be surprised if they gave it to us later but it's definitely a stat for a fraction of a fraction of the playerbase.
I feel like every character is probably initially way to strong in development, because they just add things that are cool/fun at first. Then they have to tune them down later because all the crazy things are too strong.

I really like finally seeing some insight into their balance process. Makes you wonder how crazy other characters were before the game released. Is there an even scarier version of JP that got toned down too? Is Ed with a decent jab a similar situation to AKI’s former projectile crumble where they just forgot to rebalance it after scrapping a concept? Interesting stuff to see.
Edit: oh shit you talked about that later in the vid lol This reminds me of how Oro was supposed to have a command grab in V but they changed it at the last second to a hit grab, and because of that his hit grab had TERRIBLE recovery and range before the final patch. These characters receive changes a lot later in the dev process than people think.

Was it to attempt wider popularity, was it for balancing reasons as balancing ehr toolkit around charge made her too linear or certain moves didn't fit? Was there something else going on?

So changed very late Charge characters, especially this game, have really belligerent move properties in exchange for being unable to be spammed out at will. Need perfect parry for dosukoi, buttstomp is plus, jump back dive Blankaball, unpunishable sonicboom, air slasha can be faked or win fireball wars meterless etc, etc. None of Aki's moves are designed to be whiff safe ignorant moves. Cruel fate needs proper distance gauge, stings all go in very narrow directions, none of her QCB specials can be used interchangeably. She's way too technical to be forced the burden of a down back charge.
If she did start out as charge and basically had the same moveset in that build, that would explain why she's so weak. Some of the higher ups said "You're gonna make people pay $5 to charge? Are you stupid?" So they gave her motion inputs and then nerfed the shit out of her. I imagine that's what happened to JP but they forget to nerf him.

I think they buff it to where maybe ex fireball whip causes a crumple and maybe ex cruel fate in a juggle could have an extra toxic blossom effect. But aki already does really good damage, so i wouldn't be surprised if they just leave it how it is now. But then again, they buffed ex hashogeki to 1000 damage, so there's definitely hope lol. Also secret aki nerf that didnt get mentioned. It looked like she had rips in her clothes and stuff. But aki not a coomer character fr, so reasonable "nerf" lol
