  • In this session of the TTI 2024 Workforce Development Learning Community, NASMHPD's Senior Behavioral Health Advisor, Wendy Morris, is joined by Drs Michael Hoge and Manuel Paris from the Yale University School of Medicine. In the U.S., behavioral health staff turnover and position vacancy rates have been at unprecedented levels over the past several years. This presentation will review the use of intensive Learning Collaboratives to improve recruitment and retention in multiple states, with a specific focus on their application in Connecticut by the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.     Michael Hoge, Ph.D. is a Professor of Psychiatry at the Yale University School of Medicine and Director of Yale Behavioral Health. He is a founding member and the Senior Science and Policy Advisor of The Annapolis Coalition. Michael is the senior editor or author of the SAMHSA-funded national Action Plan on Behavioral Health Workforce Development; the Alaskan Core Competencies for Direct Care Workers in Health and Human Services; and the SAMHSA and HRSA-funded Core Competencies for Integrated Behavioral Health and Primary Care. He leads the Coalition’s intensive Recruitment and Retention Learning Collaboratives in Behavioral health.
    Manuel Paris, Psy.D. is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Yale University School of Medicine and Deputy Director of Hispanic Services for the Connecticut Mental Health Center. Manny is the Director of Training for the Latinx Track of the Yale Psychology Pre- and Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program and is a Senior Consultant for the Annapolis Coalition. His professional activities focus on cultural and linguistic adaptations of evidence-based interventions, multisite training and fidelity monitoring, workforce development with a focus on DEIB, and public policy advocacy.
