I really like your tips and tricks. One reason is that you are grounded in reality. You don’t buy a 1200 dollar Legacy loco, and expect everyone else to do the same.

I was once a loyal subscriber to Classic Toy Trains. I knew it was time to let go when Kent Johnson mutilated a $500 SD40 because the sound system was "too old" and it was no longer his favorite. It was still a $500 locomotive!!!!

Nice suggestions! I created some “peppermint sticks” from straws that came from a drink sold by Schwan’s a few years ago, making a very convincing flat car load on an 0n30 flat. Using red and white fabric ribbon and forcing the straw into beaded foam to keep the ribbon from unwinding. I’m looking for fake ribbon candy and the “filled” holiday candy for gondola loads, all for use with my 0n30 trains. I have used M&M Minis for ore loads, but I would rather use, or make fake loads. These were used with Bachmann’s 0n30 side dump ore cars, makes a very colorful load! Oh, the fun we have at Christmas with our trains!

I love it. Cheap. Simple. No need to worry too much about the cat.

I love that you use "O" Gauge track.

For the temporary layout, yes. I use O27 on my permanent layout.

    Another job well done!
I enjoyed this video as much as your previous holiday on a budget video. The great thing is you're keeping it simple and fun😊

Fantastic custom work! I started to get excited when I saw your BEEP. I had one years ago and was ready to go look for another one. Too bad they aren't being made anymore.

Thanks! Yes. I wish I had bought more Beeps when they were available. I also have an old Williams version. th-cam.com/video/uLOzbQ2SoBw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=2hsoE1GEY5_R996I

Your video gave me a great idea for Lionel Coca Cola set we had in the 70s. Using miniature polar bears, either in gondolas or flat cars, as well as borrowing your idea, the Santa cake topper as well as the mini trees. Though I'm not as creative as you are, I think these simple ideas will work well. Thanks for the advice of using the Gorilla putty for the miniature lights. Continued success and Happy Holidays

Right you are Mike, it's too bad RMT doesn't make "Beeps" anymore. I've got six of them ( it just happened ) and let me tell you, put two or more together and they'll pull anything! They're good ones to grab if you see them at a good price.
Love your tips on Christmas trains, great video!

Hey it all looks so great. Some real nice tricks and tips here. Although, I'm not sure I would eat maple syrup from a Shell tank that carries petroleum products the other 11 months of the year. lol 😆 Great job, Merry Christmas.

I made my own Christmas train by covering some various trains with green pipecleaners (or "fuzzy sticks", according to the package) to make wreaths and I used red ones to make festive bunting. Removable, and very Christmas styled. I also put some miniature trees onto the log car--bad idea! It looked nice, but they also were covered in VERY loose bits of snow. At least it didn't take too long to clean it out.

@@ToyTrainTipsAndTricks certainly a great idea to make stuff Christmas themed on the layout. However, why stop there with just Christmas stuff? I just realized that there could be some truly glorious applications with this if you wanted to put old steam locomotives in post steam era road names. I mean using similar methods that you outlined in this video, you could make a steam locomotive Conrail blue, or Burlington northern green. Chessie system yellow could also be possible. For all you know, with a little bit of red white and blue tape and some silver paint you could even add steam locomotives to the Amtrak roster. I would think the most challenging part would be getting decals for the road name symbols like the conrail can opener or the Amtrak pointless arrow on the tender.

@@ToyTrainTipsAndTricks do you know exactly what might be a good way to do a Amtrak paint scheme on the Commodore Vanderbilt or New York Central mercury locomotive? I considered perhaps basing it off of the paint schemes used for the Amtrak genesis diesel but I wanted to know if you had anything else in mind that might be more interesting

for better results from a 490 add weight to locomotive traction tire from vinal tape and run only on dc power you will find a you will have a almost different engine i have several of these 490s and love them all but all of them need just a little help hope this helps keep up the good work thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @DanPursel

just a side tip add a bridge rectifier and a led directly to the engine and go where no 490 has gone before sorry for the overload of comments but im poor and cheep locomotive expearament is much of my hobby
