...and this concludes one of the greatest debut albums of all-time. (any meaningful list has to include this and the Stone Roses' debut). I really appreciate you favoring quality over popularity in a lot of cases, Justin... it's why you have a GO-TO channel. Quality content. Thoughtful reactions. Carry on!! (and THANK YOU, again)

Finally! Just the most beautiful and ethereal track. It sounds so Manchester, so miserable, but yet there’s a glimmer of hope in there.
A brief escape from the gritty brick streets to the soaring moors beyond.

The thing about 'The Chameleons' is that they weren't a well known band at all, if you knew about them you knew how great of a band they were. Once you become a fan you will always be one, I love this band, this is one of my favourite albums from them.

I remember reading about The Chameleons somewhere in 1983 and then going to the local "alternative" record store and trying the get the LP. They hadn't gotten it in yet (it was an import) but they did have a couple singles that I bought -- "A Person Isn't Safe..." (7") and "As High as You Can Go" (12"). Loved all the tracks and bought the LP as soon as it was available -- still remains an all-time favorite. And I still have those singles.
This track is very much proto-shoegaze and has some affinities with Cocteau Twins' "Musette and Drums," which came out around the same time. Each of the Chameleons' first three albums ended with a somewhat slower more introspective piece like this -- all three are great cappers to three outstanding records.

I guess without the Chameleons this whole shoegazing/dream pop thing wouldn't have happened. The two-guitar harmonies in particular were essential in shoegaze music. Just listen to how many Slowdive songs sound like this song later.

From what I heard, this was my favorite track on the album.
    And I wonder why...
Maybe as a addict of the Cocteaux and Slowdive's falling guitar lines made it... 😊😅

The perfect ending to a perfect debut album. The Chameleons ethereal, hauntingly beautiful sounds were unique and innovative for their time. Dave Fielding and Reg Smithies guitar work is beyond comparison. Check out their 2nd album for further brilliance from this band.

I was in college when this came out. I remember listening to this album, and this song especially, on cassette, on my Walkman and beat-up headphones, and being filled with... nostalgia? At 18? Fantastic song.

Ah this is it. The song that introduced to me to one of my favourite bands. I found it by chance, was looking for a rare live recording of The Cure’s beautiful One Thousand Hours on TH-cam 15 years ago, found a very scratchy 80s bootleg recording, someone in the comments posted that it was a ripoff of this song that I’d never heard. It isn’t a ripoff (there are some melodic similarities I guess?) but the song took hold of me, and from then on I was a fan of the band. Didn’t have Spotify then so it was a bit of a mission to find the album.

btw: If you'd like to do a reaction to the band live in concert... can't get much better than this glorious tune, "IN SHREDS" live at the height of their powers... They used to close shows with this barn-burner... th-cam.com/video/CAN5Pjo0AYQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=IXRyuXy6Vn9bRShi

The Chameleons has never captured my attention more than that, and this track is no exception. Justin, try going back to The Sound, The Comsat Angels and especially the unjustly underrated trio The Opposition, a band from the same period that you've never listened to on your channel (and which has never had any reaction anywhere else that I know of!). For a first listen, try the tracks "Breaking the Silence" and "Black and White" from their debut album Breaking the Silence (1981).

@@a.k.1740 He has to at least react to their first 3 albums! After trying over and over again I can’t for the life of me enjoy their “Lost Album” that was supposed to be their 1980 debut instead of “Breaking the Silence”

In my opinion The Chameleons are only relegated to the worlds second greatest band by The Smiths.
